Please make Zarya less oppressive

I love my Russian queen but I think that she needs to have a bit higher of a skill ceiling as far as building weapon charge goes. She’s been a strong pick for way too long in this game. Peaking a corner or shield, or bubbling your doom/ genji/ ball when they go in… and BAM you’re at 50-60% already.

That’s fair to say, and I do my best not to/ tell my team to avoid doing so. But honestly it is unavoidable! A good Zarya will ALWAYS find a way to get charge, and once she’s high charge it is so difficult to take her down.

I think that she needs to be able to bubble herself ONLY and give it a damage cap so that she can toggle it on/ off but only til a certain amount is absorbed… say 300hp(?), with a 9(?) second cool down once broken.

At least then she would have to choose when to bubble and TANK (let’s not forget she’s a tank not damage). Her bubbles are way too forgiving and lead to her becoming so oppressive and hard to take down once she’s high charge.

What do you guys think of her right now/ what would you suggest changing to make her more tanky and less a destroyer of worlds?

I’d start laughing maniacally at if the devs actually had the balls to nerf zarya significantly, because at that point they would be killing off ANY remaining good will with the tank base.

I think what people don’t understand on these forums is that it’s not supposed to be impossible to get charge. It’s part of her kit, you’re supposed to get charge. Some people on this forum seem to think she should need a degree in rocket science just to get 50 charge.

I think zaryas mostly fine anyways. She could use a small power shift so she’s less effective in lower ranks but slightly better higher up but that’s about it, Imo.

And tanks suck anyways rn, so I don’t think they’ll be nerfing zarya anytime soon.

I hear you on that. I LOVE playing tank, and really think the entire role is hurting currently.

I think that Blizz needs to work on making tanks TANKIER… and bring the damage down a bit where needed.

I think deliberately making the Tank role less desirable to DPS players, would lead to higher queue times, and poorer changes match quality.

Just gonna quote this here:

Nerfing her decay rate would mean even a significant nerf for even better zaryas because she still decays faster even with well placed bubbles.

That would be a great nerf I think. Her decay is really too slow IMO.

Your missing the point. Zarya shouldn’t be able to maintain that charge all the way till the next bubble.

Decay nerf for Zarya is a buff to her skill celling, meaning you need to bubble at smart times to maintain that charge. lol

I get that. I just think that tanks should be well. Tanks? Not walking death machines. Just my thought

if ow2 is gonna be delayed this year, then they need to actually working on balancing because idk how long they think people will put up with this sub par half baked balancing

Yes she should. Again, it’s not supposed to be that hard to maintain charge. And honestly, there are some games where you can’t even get much charge at all because everyones split up playing hitscans. Then there are games against like junk spam where you’re getting charge super quick, but you can’t use the charge. So it would be better to swap to a sigma or d.va pick. That’s balance, useable in some scenarios, not useable in others.

Increasing her decay would make Zarya players have to think harder about who/ when to bubble…

Right now if she fudges up a bubble it’s no worries she gets another one very shortly or can just hide behind a teammate/ bubble them in the meantime…

It’s low risk high reward that can lead to a quick team stomp

Nope. Tanks in a game that’s primarily a shooter, should be based on “Heavies” from Class Based Shooters.
I miss any "Tanks from FPS games"?

Not Tanks from MOBAs and RPGs.

The idea that Overwatch should have more in common with League of Legends or WoW Arena, than Team Fortress 2 or Tribes, is pretty ridiculous.

This just shows me you have very little time on zarya.
Her bubble cooldowns are some of the longest in the game, 10 seconds for self, 8 for projected. If you mess up your bubble you will be punished heavily by the enemy team.

Have you tried playing mobile heroes, high ground, mid and long range heroes?

She has no answer to them when a barrier breaks or her ability is on cooldown.

If you always running up on her instead of zoning her with someone like Echo then it’s not her fault Zarya is whipping on you

Yes exactly this. Range absolutely destroys zarya even now. Actually it destroys pretty much every tank except maybe ball or sigma. D.va maybe if you’re playing in scrims.

Tbh, the real issue here is that D.va and Winston need some way to heal without healers, that doesn’t involve sitting on 8 healthpacks or walking back to spawn.

I’d suggest instead, that they cut their Ultimate Charge cost by 15-33%.

Since their Ultimates are basically full-selfheals.

They could reduce Zarya’s damage potential and decrease her cooldowns very slightly.
