Hi Blizzard team,
Some Overwatch achievements are now impossible to earn because older PvE and event modes (like Archives and Invasion) are gone. For completionists, it’s frustrating not being able to reach 100%.
I already contacted Blizzard Support about this, but they advised me to post here instead so the dev team can see it. Could you please make these achievements obtainable again through alternative methods or bring back the old modes? If that’s not possible, maybe grant them to players who missed out.
Thanks for reading and considering this!

let’s be real if it doesn’t affect 90% of the playerbase or involve a new skin, Blizzard’s probably gonna leave those achievements buried lmao

A good middle ground might be to rotate old PvE event modes in custom games or arcade on a schedule, but from what I’ve heard they’re not bringing the older events back annoyingly

They said the code for Archives mission is “broken”, an excuse which i found to be an utter joke.

They actually just told you that so you would go away and spin your wheels to feel like you were doing something useful about the issue, while they will not.
Try them again and ask why Archives aren’t available/why the devs won’t put resources into making them available

Right? All their code is broken, what’s the difference?

They can bring back everything from OW1 (lucioball, junkenstein PvE, etc) but not the Archives.
I suspect they just didn’t want to expand the story and lore not because the code is broken.

I can believe their code is ‘broken’ in that it might need major modification for the new OW2 engine.
But what I want to ask is why is that my problem and not theirs?
Microsoft is a trillion dollar company, their excuses are pure [non-forum word].

There’s no such thing as “new engine”. OW2 is the same game as OW1 but with removed features.
What they said about the “new engine”, it’s all lies. They promised too much and couldn’t deliver.

I mean this is one step too far for me, but I respect your freedom to hold this stance.
It doesn’t feel like a new/more useful engine, things are broken constantly, and the OW2 release UI compared to OW1 was garbage.

Wdym? it’s clearly the same engine, apart from the barely noticable filters.

I mean to me it’s clearly not, but I’m not really willing to/am not qualified enough to argue this/I do not care enough.

I mean, it’s frustrating that they decided to cancel PvE as a whole. I just don’t understand why they can’t put Archives on rotation. I’m aware you mentioned they said “the code for it was broken,” but it’s just so frustrating it really feels like they’re never bringing it back.
What’s the point of still having event achievements in the game if they’re permanently unobtainable? It’s super discouraging. And to make things worse, when I go to Blizzard Support, I just get a reply basically saying, “I can’t help you because this isn’t my department.” Instead of transferring me or actually helping, they just tell me to post on the forums.
The likelihood of a dev actually reading this is close to zero, so it feels almost pointless to post this thread… but I guess I can still hope.

Because it’s a waste of money to them. So they don’t care to fix it.

Slapping a new version number on something is super easy and quite often done only for marketing purposes.
In Overwatch “2” they increased the texture resolution and perhaps the polygon count compared to OW1 (that was optimised for 1080p), and added realistic weapon sounds (a change I don’t really like) along with some other content (new maps, in-game shop), and that’s it. There seems to be nothing special in OW2 that would require a full engine replacement or major architectural changes compared to OW1.
Some other features that are associated with OW2 are the customisable hero stat system in Stadium (it’s mostly gameplay code that might be reused stuff from the cancelled PvE, not low-level engine stuff), different weather conditions on the maps (something they could implement in OW1 Storm Rising Archives mission in 2019), and different time-of-the-day themes for maps (they could implement this as well in OW1 when the Blizzard World map received a night-time skin in 2018 for Christmas).
None of these require a “new engine”. These are mostly content changes with minor support from the engine.

I mean, yeah, you’re not wrong. I’m not saying I know how hard it is to remove or implement things into the game, but surely if they’re going to remove these modes, they should remove the achievements alongside them too?

I wouldn’t care. But you gotta give me something in return. For deleting the achievements. I did finish. Give me a hard spray.

That makes sense. I don’t know I think they should either give out all the achievements that are now unattainable, offer some sort of compensation, or make them obtainable by other means. I’m aware that complaining about this on the forums will probably lead to nothing, I just don’t really know what else to do besides feel slightly defeated knowing I can never 100% the game.

I would totally be fine if they just unlock the abandoned sprays. By just playing something. Either comp or something in arcade. Just don’t make it a free unlock.
