With the obvious disagreements taking place over the new systematic approach to competitive play, the only fair thing to do is probably have both game-modes available for competitive play.
Those who appreciate and enjoy Overwatch how it is: Play Regular Competitive play
Those who appreciate the mandatory 2-2-2 with no role switching mid-game: Play Role Queue Competitive play
At the end of the day, I feel like this is going to be the only permanent solution so that everyone is happy. A consensus could be made after 1-2 seasons of competitive play to see which type of competitive play people actually prefer. Let the numbers speak for themselves. While Role Queue may be a solution to some, it is most definitely not a solution for all.
From a customer stand-point, I feel this would speak volumes about Blizzard and their customer service.
It would speak volumes in the same way wearing a diaper would: inability to commit to revolutionary change. Just because you’ve been peeing yourself for three years doesn’t mean that’s the best way to go about this whole potty business.
I wonder if you people even know what “balancing” would have meant without RoleQ.
You think it sucks to die to a Widow or Genji all game as a support? Well guess what, in high-tier/OWL games tanks & supports are much more important than DPS. Without RoleQ, they would have buffed DPS so much that having 4 or 5 DPS in ladder games would have become equally good as having main- & off-tank.
RoleQ is the only way (this far) to make it balanced to have a 600hp self-healing DPS take 1 slot, and a 200HP squishy DPS take 1 slot.
Am I? I thought people said that RoleQ was just a quick fix cuz devs “can’t balance the game”.
The truth is that it’s not balanceable when every hero takes 1 slot. People complain about DPS power creep, while it’s still the weakest and most disposable role in real games. They would have had to go so far with nerfs to tanks/buffs to dps, that RoleQ is just better choice.
I think its great
Finally i dont have a main tank who decide in the middle of the game that he want to play DPS
It will take a few weeks until everyone will get to the rank they deserve with each role but right now it feels good to play without 5 dps in my team
I totally agree, I made a post outlining the problems with just having role queue available, and there are no drawbacks to having both kinds available.
I can see that happening, which is why in my post I mentioned that I’m in favour of mixing who you’re up against if queue times get too long.
Like it’ll take longer to wait for a game that’s 6v6, so sometimes a group of 6 is put against 3 duos. Similarly, if it would make wait times lower, there should be an option to go up against other forms of teams. So your 2-2-2 might go up against an LFG who has some other version of enforced roles.
But instead creating tanks and healers more fun and rewarding … they forcing a certain team composition.
“so, your arm hurts? Let’s cut it off” - that’s their solution to any problem.
