I’m writing this as someone who genuinely loved the Mystery Heroes Role Queue mode you introduced in the last couple of seasons. It was such a refreshing take on the game and, in my opinion, far better than regular Mystery Heroes. Honestly, it gave me hope that one day we might even see a Competitive Mystery Heroes mode, which would be an incredible addition.
The role queue format brought much-needed balance and structure to the chaos of Mystery Heroes. Players still got the fun and unpredictability of random hero selection but with enough of a framework to keep games from spiraling into lopsided messes. It felt more strategic and fair, making it a genuinely enjoyable mode.
When you removed it, it was incredibly disappointing. Regular Mystery Heroes, while fun here and there, belongs in the Arcade. It’s just too chaotic and unbalanced to feel like anything more than a casual, for-fun experience. Mystery Heroes Role Queue, on the other hand, was something truly unique.
I also think part of the reason it may not have been as popular as it could’ve been was due to misleading queue time estimates. I’d often see estimates of 10+ minutes, yet the actual wait time was usually under two minutes. That likely discouraged players who didn’t realize how quick it actually was.
I really hope you’ll consider bringing back Mystery Heroes Role Queue—and maybe even building on it. A Competitive Mystery Heroes mode would be an amazing addition that could reward players for versatility and deeper game knowledge.
Thanks for reading, and I hope the devs consider this feedback. Mystery Heroes Role Queue showed how creative and fun Overwatch can be, and it would be a shame to lose such a great mode permanently.

YESSSSSSS, Bring it baack …Why remove it in the first place… it was the most enjoyable mode for me … Good way to enjoy relax chill after work and now I see 3 tanks against me again…

I suspect it got axed because there weren’t enough people weren’t playing the mode. The even-worse-than-QP matchmaking and the erratic queue estimates gave me the impression that folks didn’t queue up for it in any sustainable numbers.
We’ve already had Competitive Mystery Heroes on a few occasions. It was peak OW in my opinion. I’d love to see it active more, even permanent, but not the role queue version.
To me, as someone who plays only Mystery Heroes for several years now, the RQ version took away too much of the spirit of MH. I don’t want to choose to play tank or dps or healer. I want to play them all in every game potentially. I tried queuing as all roles in hopes of getting as much variety as possible, but like in most modes nobody wants to play tank so that just resulted in me getting tank 80% of the time. It doesn’t feel like Mystery Heroes when you’re playing tank all day.
One of the nice things about MH is if you have someone on DPS for example and they’re not killing anything, hopefully you can get different people on dps later who will. The RQ version felt hopeless sometimes when your dps were terrible and you were stuck with them in that role for the entire game.
You say RQ added much needed balance, and I expected it would make games more balanced, but in my experience that was not the case. There were just as many one-sided stomps as ever.
RQ also removed some of the strategy unique to MH. For example it’s incredibly valuable to target and kill enemy healers, even if you don’t have a comp able to win a whole fight, because maybe they won’t get another healer and you’re weakening their comp dramatically so maybe you can win the next fight. In RQ killing a healer isn’t that special because you know they’ll always have two.
Mystery does not belong in the arcade. When it got sent there it was miserable to play because arcade has no leaver penalty, so every game was ruined by leavers. But still tons of people went there to play it and avoid the RQ version, which told the devs which one to keep.
I would like if we could have every mode available, but the devs are afraid of splitting players into too many queues and making them all long. I suspect that’s why they tragically won’t let us have Competitive MH more often, if it adds queue time to the other competitive modes.

While I would never play it over normal MH, it should’ve just gone to the arcade
In fact that’s where it should’ve gone from the get go

I play exclusively MH, and while introducing Role Queue was a little jarring at first, I grew to appreciate it, and I’m missing it now it’s gone. I preferred role queue MH.
I wish they’d at least ask for feedback in-game, like with a poll or something, to get an idea of what people prefer.

Quite the shame. If I wanted to get frustrated by bs rng I’d just go back to hearthstone instead
Lol this isn’t unique to mh. That’s just overwatch. It’s even worse in mh because if you don’t kill the support you just lose; they’ll start to get support ults and then you really won’t have a chance to win. It’s especially bad against Juno. Oq mh becomes entirely about inting on the backline, if you die oh well try again next reroll or you get support yourself there’s no downside.
OQ MH is awful compared to RQ. I can’t go back!! Having no supports, or fighting 3 tanks is just not fun and leads to a lot of people leaving.
OQ MH is a game of who can get the most tanks and who can get 3 tanks first. That team is probably going to win.
OQ would be much improved if they
- max-2 tanks
- guarantee at least 1 support per team at the start of the game (it is then completely random after that, except the 2 tank limit)
- remove DUPs. Some of these are just too broken to allow.
I think then it would be much more playable and have less leavers.

Much it’s just so bad as oq so many games are just a comp diff. Please blizzard bring back the good mode!

I also preferred the RQ version of MH. I’m not big on the 5v5 open queue based tank balance.

Who thought removing RQ was a great idea? I was an active player of that mode and it was actually fun because you could learn random heroes and still have some kind of balance on the game, but now its always three tanks (once I even got against 4 DVAS, so fun). What can you even do against that? The idea of having BOTH modes was much better than removing one, Blizzard ruining the fun as always.

Also the fact that you can’t even leave the game cause you would get suspended. You just have to stay and live through the misery of being against a comp that’s almost impossible to kill. Thanks Blizzard!
Gonna assume blizzard saw a huge drop off in player count. There was a lot of backlash when they initially made it RQ.
There is a 3 tank limit in MH so I think you are mistaken about 4 DVas.
It was so bad that I probably saw 4, mb.
But you know Open Queue was still playable in game, and you could play whatever you wanted, I don’t understand why not keep both in the same menu. There was no reason to not keep both.
I presume queue times were an issue, but I’m totally in favor of them both being under unranked. Pushing the OQ version into arcade was a huge mistake, though.

As an active player of the gamemode, I had queues of 1 to a max of 3 minutes in all roles, so I highly doubt that was the reason. And I agree with you both should be unranked.

I mean for both modes at the same time. Something a lot of people dont understand is that when you dont put game modes front and center, most people don’t find them. From what I heard of other people, the OQ version of the game under arcade got considerably longer queue times. It’s not because people didnt want to play it, it’s because your average casual player doesn’t look under arcade and so they assume the RQ version is the only one they can play. A lot of people who preferred the OQ version ended up abandoning it and playing the RQ version because they couldn’t get fast enough queues.
If you add both to the unranked menu, the queue times could get much worse for both.
I still don’t understand why removing the gamemode though, like yeah, OQ one had pretty slow queues and you could barely get a match, but a lot of us already got used to the RQ rules, being taken away from a mode that has been in the game for months already it’s just so frustrating. Hope they reconsider to put both again.
My theory is:
- OQ was more popular than RQ
- They believe splitting the queues between the modes might not work out well
- They do not want to use up the arcade slot (A lot of people complained that their favorite arcade modes got purged during events because several of the modes have permanent cards on top of permanent event slots).
I personally have no problem with both coexisting in unranked, but I presume blizzard had their reasons for doing what they did.
