Please be kind to Symm mains while their hero is reworked

Well, with removal of Symmetra lock-on, it does kinda open up the mechanic for a potential future hero. I also kinda find it strange that she is just going to mimic Zarya (although does Sym beam also just get blocked by shields or does it pierce like currently?)

You misspelled “revoked”.

As I understand it, she replenishes ammo for attacking barriers, and it allows her damage to ramp up. It doesn’t pierce it, however, she becomes stronger to break it down faster.

Hmmm, that’s acceptable. Honestly thats what I do with Zarya a lot anyways, being as her charged up beam does considerable damage , shields are easy to hit, and need to be cleared for DPS to do their job.

It is a different interaction, though. It encourages Symmetra to shoot at shields to power herself up, give herself ammo, and then destroy teammates nearby.

It’s definitely detrimental to have shields with those mechanics.

I get that being a Sym main can be kinda daunting right now. You’re favourite character is in the dumps as is but the rework is a complete revamp of her and would require some reinvestment in learning her new mechanics. Though can you imagine all the kill credit you can get for teleporting a D.va nuke or from boosting a high noon into a high spot behind the enemy team?

I get that you’re anxious though, especially since the effects of Mercy 2.0 are still being felt but look at it this way, there’ll be a lot less people asking you to switch off Sym now. It’s not much, but this mediocre McCree main will do what I can to help.

I have some issues with it, I posted on the megathread and someone elses asking mains for their feelings/critique. Still I’ll post it here in a bit, since this board is generally been kinder than most. Many peeps see a complaint and assume revert everything, don’t change it, etc. Plus I’m still trying to get my opinions discussed in a healthy way, that shows why some things are out of place.

it sounds like a very creative way to generate “anti-shield” gameplay. Essentially, shields reduce Symmetra’s reload requirements. I am a bit sad they removed her personal shield, that was a very fun way to engage with her. it was also a very strong ability in general. I have not only killed Pharah’s that were ulting with it, I have completely blocked McCree ults as well as D.va ults with it. The shield was a VERY strong ability. From what it looks like though, they kinda made the shield gameplay into her ult. I will have to see how the ult works to know if it can be used in as many situations as the projected shield. I also kinda hope they bring that shield back with another character as it was great to include a shield like that on a DPS pick, made for interesting comps

The teleporter change is my biggest issue. She really is “a new character” not simply a reworked one. She has always had a weapon that directly resembles the Portal gun. So I am certain “portal girl” was a nickname someone has called her at some point. The new teleporter is strikingly the closest thing to “Portal gameplay” we have seen in this game since release. It will completely negate the functionality it once served to remove runback time (I always assumed this was her ult because if you actually gave her the portal gun, this would be the most effective usage of it).

Now it seems the teleporter is more of a close range thing. To be used proximal to the capture points (probably used to reduce runback time in some cases too but nothing like it used to be). If you have ever played Heroes of the Storm, this totally sounds like Medivh gameplay. Theoretically this could open up some insane playmaking (imagine a Reinhardt flanking you and dropping in on your head, then charging BACK to his group to get the pin kill, rather than the opposite we always see.)

Photon Barrier is her ultimate, though it works as a static wall with 5000 HP

Omg, what is this Blizzard. Do you imagine what Sym has to go through to simply charge her “ultimate” and then…

apagando las luces

always improving thanks

Isn’t it a little late to be nice to sym mains? It is the communities fault sym is in this position. She needs a few changes, but not an entire rework.

I like most of it, but several things bug me and don’t make sense within the context of the character.

Her gun:
The hard lock is gone, and slower ramp. For it we are getting more range, ammo return, and more DPS. I rather trade the ammo return and range for a soft lock. Its making her anti-tank for no reason, when we have plenty of options to take care of them and their meta. This weapon was never intended as her long range option, that is the alt fire. No way I want it to step on the orbs toes, it still should remain the close range option. Like a power drill, not a hyperbeam.

The orb is gone and is replaced with Pharah rocket. This is now her intended main damage dealer. I hate this thing to no end, and that shouldn’t be the case. Its her ranged combat and now primary means of damage. We are losing pass through, and multi target damage (numbers down). From that, we are getting faster charge, more speed, higher single target, AOE upon hit. I rather trade the AOE, higher single target and faster charge, for the pass through and speed. Its already spam worthy, unique, powerful, and encouraged positioning, all it needed was speed.

Her turrets:
I like most of it, just needs some tweaks. I rather lose some damage for 4 turrets and reveals enemies. they were used more for tripwires and discovering flankers, not car wash. Car wash is an option, but higher ranks only used car wash get ult charge fast or to defend ults. Since we now only have 3 its now more about that car wash, forget slowing flank routes. I don’t like that since mains don’t use em as such and only newer players or those that don’t play her spams car wash.

Her E:
Not much to say here, kinda sad I am no longer a delivery service but now a shipper. It’s flipped its function, doesn’t bring to you, but pushes away. Rather bring peeps to me, but I guess they couldn’t figure it out. Now I work like Mei, Sombra, and Reaper. If they want to promote the getting teammates to higher places bit, Mei mains have been arguing for wall indicator for teammates and slight cooldown. It helps them more to achieve the goals they wanted, not my goals for this rework.

Her ult:
I don’t like it, it doesn’t sound fun, and it steps on Rein and Ori’s toes. I rather it work by doing something, then just high health and out of nowhere. It sounds and feels boring. You literally could use the original, make it bigger, pass through walls, add temp shields, anything really and it be better then the one presented. This one is just boring, and does not sound worth a ult. Hizzah 4000-5000 barrier I guess, but that doesn’t make me feel like its really worth the slot.

All my thoughts, what are your guys’ critiques?

Honestly some mains wanted this, but some of us didn’t for a variety of reasons. I didn’t because the function of it was to bring peeps to her, not to get peeps to where they wanted to go; if you wanted that then Mei was your better option.

Well, its gonna make for some interesting choke-point negation on attack maps. Think about that leftside flanking route on Volskaya; Now a single Symmetra can get any team comp around the leftside route. Mei could not really achieve what this teleporter or “Portal” ability will achieve.

What about the change to her alt fire? That actually sounds pretty awesome to me.

oops, lol, my bad. Wow, it kinda sounds nice in theory but yea “Pharah rocket” is most likely what it will be in practice. More evidence for the argument that they made an entirely new character rather than rework her. I trust they will watch how she does and make changes accordingly. Maybe they’ll consider the old passthrough as a suitable substitute for “splosions!” and change it back

I’m sorry, Sym mains: This new rework is the new Mercy rework and she may be quickly nerfed into a boring functional state soon after her rework hits live.

The saddest part is her new primary fire; don’t mind the idea of it changing, but the choice they have so far turns it into a clone of a different character’s primary fire, Zarya, and honestly takes out a huge part of the character being unique.
Beams are tough, they have the risk of feeling too alike to each other and that ruins the diversity of the gameplay.

I hope so too, not everything was totally worth replacing. I hope some peeps don’t take it too harsh, but nothing in Sym’s old kit is being used in the same function in the new one based on what I know about the game. That’s why there is an uproar and extremely polarizing complaints.

what if they just kept the current teleporter AND added this new “portal” ability?

or as Joe Kennedy would put it
“Why not both?”

Thank you for your kind words. As a Symmetra main, I am looking forward to some of the changes and not looking forward to others. When voicing my reservations about the things I don’t like, especially her losing her auto-lock aim, I got called a whiner.

Be gentle with us, people. Those of you who have been asking for Symmetra to be killed off are basically getting your wish. This won’t be Symmetra anymore.
