OWL ruined Overwatch

Agreed 100%. The balancing in this game is horrendous. I honesty don’t understand how they think they’re doing great with the way it’s currently “balanced”. The matchmaking is terrible, the current hero balance is so out of wack. Then the cherry on the cake is they’re basically halting content production to work on a new game/update? In which we have no information on release dates just a slapped together presentation and cinematic short that came out 7 months ago. However they advertise and push the OWL agenda every chance they get. Most games start out rough and gradually grow into themselves and find their balance and path. This game went from brand new started out fantastic events had new game modes, more than 4/5 legendary skins, new heroes hints puzzles/teases, new maps, cinematic, comics, community outreach. Now it’s this… it’s all over the place lacking content. This is a AAA company who have made some of the most well known games and this is how OW is treated? They really need to figure some stuff out because I don’t see the “love” they say they put into the game. All I see is “watch OWL oh and here’s some random balancing to make xyz character over/underpowered for the time being”.

Totally agree… every balance patch they release is to satisfy the viewers and not what we truly need.

The best example of a game that left the e-sport scene and became better? Heroes of the Storm. After the cancelation of the e-sport scene the game is better than ever! Right Balance Patches once a month. Hero reworks. The devs are active in the community and they chat with it and listen to the feedback.

Ofc there are downsides… slow hero releases and fewer events… but hey…! 3 heroes releases in 1 year for Overwatch and the same events over and over… it’s not a sign from an “alive” game.

Edit: You don’t need money to make a game better… neither many people. The heroes of the storm have max 10 people working on it vs the Overwatch which has a lot more… the money makes a game worse if you can’t handle them…

I mean what does it say about a paid entry game when your entire gameplay experience is going to be dictated by The opinions of Pros, streamers, and top end players who have a financial incentive to have the game be skewed for them?

I say let it burn. COD and Battlefield don’t need Esports to survive, Titanfall didn’t either.

Bastion was reworked actually, in Feb 2017. For reference, Symmetra 2.0 was Dec 2016 and Torb Scrap auto-gen was Nov 2016.

These three seem to be linked by a thread - Sym 3.0 and the shift to Damage over Offense and Defense roles was in Jun 2018, with the Torb rework in Oct 2018. Bastion also received his reverse recoil in Dec 2018 after minor buffs.

I guess the devs simply thought Bastion’s kit was fine. His pickrate is higher than Symmetra’s right now at least. All 3 of the release troll pick Defense-only heroes are definitely in a healthier spot right now.

Yeah, they would have never released Deathwing in his current form if HotS was trying to be eSports ready.

OW is different though. It’s got its own niche really, where it can reasonably compete with other hero shooters - HotS was trying to take on LoL, which would never have happened.

Also, they’re making a story-focused sequel, which provides an alternate revenue stream, from those who are invested in the characters and story. That wasn’t really an option for HotS, the best that can be done is a Smash Bros. style campaign but that’s tough for a MOBA.

no offense but balancing has been for the casual base for a long time. Also sym and mercy arent bad in quick play.

so i assume you want a free to play game where every character is identical because balance? its a situational game that encourages swapping characters.

If OWL didn’t exist or went away, there wouldn’t be a need for tokens. The OWL skins would probably be removed.

they dont balanced the game on any way… you think that they balanced the game around owl? then why owl was terrible with dive for 1 year, goats for 1 years and like 8 months of double shields???

they are just terrible balancing the game and they dont have the hero balance as main priority.

Been saying it since the start. OWL is poison to this game.

I’ll never forgive them for getting Sombra nerfed 2 times now

Believe it or not, a lot of forumgoers in year one detested Mass Resurrect and Symmetra’s lock-on because of how unfair it felt, and therefore unfun.

Double standards exist too.

Why is the forum community so extremely misinformed?

You are aware that from BETA the Devs decided to make this game Competitive, right?
You are aware that from BETA the Devs decided they wanted a League like OWL?
You are aware that within MONTHS of the game being released, they released the trailer for OWL?

No? Then do not speak on the subject.

Just because you cannot play those heroes does not mean that others cannot.

In every single region, on all platforms except for the Nintendo Switch*, Competitive is the most popular mode.

Just because you don’t have a competitive drive whatsoever, doesn’t mean you can mindlessly hate on the rest of us who do.

Overwatch was officially released on May 24, 2016.

The Path-To-Pro system was given a trailer on Nov 4, 2016.

The Overwatch League system was given a trailer on Nov 4, 2016.

Hell, she is even pick more than Doomfist.

If the forum is still saying Doomfist is freaking OP, then what the hell is Sym?

Fight for the Future…Together
Teamwork is imperative for survival as you enter the fight with friends and comrades. Careful coordination will prove the difference between victory and defeat as your team combines the formidable powers at your disposal to devastating effect.

Shift Your Perspective
Just when it seems like your team is destined to go down in defeat, switch heroes on the fly and change the course of the battle. But don’t forget that your opponents can do the same. Master the game within the game as both teams shift strategies and change heroes to try to gain the upper hand.

When did these two things change? Last one pretty much changed with OWL and the horrible 2-2-2. You can no longer, “switch heroes” you switch category or better, class set.
Again,

Play Heroes, Not Classes

this was said in there game description…yet now it seems we have classes. DPS/Support/Tank.

What happen to this game…

What’s the last change that was specifically due to OWL?

The loss of Barrierwatch? Greater Bapt ult charge requirement? Immortality Field range increase? Immortality Field HP decrease? Moira healing nerfs? Exo-boots buffs? Torb not being a throw pick? Sym not being a throw pick? Ashe not being a watered down, inferior sniper with little to no competitive niche?

Nothing, at least in regards to Role vs. Hero, that wasn’t even more prominent prior to the introduction of Orisa, Sigma, Wrecking Ball, Moira, Ana, Brigitte, and Baptiste. That division was stronger before. We just had more flexibility in which Role we chose, since we weren’t forced into 2-2-2.

The idea that esports is some kind of cynical cash grab is absurd. You said it yourself – only a small “niche” of the player base cares about OWL. That’s true. So how can it possibly be a cash grab? How can both of those things be true at once?
