❌ OWL could disallow GOATs if needed

None of them. You can balance heroes without deleting them, but I can see why you would get that impression based on Blizzard’s balancing practice. They just need to tone down the overall healing in the game and make up for it in other areas.

I literally just gave a solution, though. Fix the healing creep.

There’s also a ton of examples in real life physical sports where certain strategies are banned, because they are boring.

So, you are proposing an across the board healing nerf to all healers then? Yes?

well… 6 dps is awful as well.

  • DPS - 3 max / 1 min
  • Tank - 3 max / 2 min (some argued for 3 max / 2 min - either way really)
  • Healer - 2 max / 1 min

This is the best possible solution.

What does it entail?

Does it mean that players can only receive healing from 2 sources, so the 3rd support becomes irrelevant? How would you solve a barrier watch problem with 6 shield tanks in the future? 3rd barrier acts as if it doesn’t exist?

That would only create more balance issues.

Through out the game’s history many hero’s balance have been judged based on how well they function in 2-2-2 comps. Suddenly that doesn’t matter for tanks or supports. Brigitte and Lucio are liabilities is 2-2-2 comps. most tanks struggle in 2-2-2 because of how lacking they are compared to DPS.

No game should have more than 3 DPS. That’s horribly unbalanced. A min/max system should apply to all roles.

No. I’m proposing looking at the healers and determining what aspects of the available healing needs to be retuned. The main problem is that people, especially Blizzard, are only concerned about balancing short-term statistics instead of looking at the overall consequences of changes. It needs more thought than just “lower some numbers”.

My idea is that if 6 DPS meta or something like that happens, that restriction could be added, so no one is forced into heal/tank role at first. I prefer to add limits step by step.

Read this entire reply.

The problem is that if you can have 3 healers in a game. If that is even a possibility, then the amount of healing they do is going to be too strong if they are also viable when there is only 1 healer in the game.

They can either be balanced to work with 3 or 1, but it’s not really possible to make a healer be OK as a solo healer without making them completely OP when they have 2 buddies.

You mean “nerf”, right?

Agreed. Changing owl rules is better than sledgehammering the game to appease the .001%

Adding this step by step could be okay. The problem is that a min/max system needs some reward or encouragement system to complement it. Either daily quest for different roles or a role rotation reward.

Which adds more incentives to play. Seems like an improvement from the arcade system we have now.

No, it means looking at the available sources of healing and considering which ones are too potent. Before Ana, the highest non-ult single target healing was 50/s and the highest non-ult multi-target healing was whatever Lucio’s amp was at the time. Now Ana and Moira can put out 130/150+ health per second with regular abilities, with the entirety of Moira’s being multi-target.

Add more counters to barriers, nerf the availability of barriers slightly if needed.

Nerf in some areas, potentially buff in others to compensate.

Banning, Forcing roles and disallowing palying a certain way are all very unorganic ways to try to force a game to play how you want it to and if I hold anything against all those ideas it’s that some small group is trying to say how the game should be played. It’s not really that interesting if you’re not allowed to explore the game to it’s potential, it’s way different from banning certain things in boxing or MMA, it’s like, we have Aces in our deck of cards but you aren’t allowed to play them cuz I don’t like them.

Limiting roles would solve most of these problems at once. And every hero would be powerful in it’s own right, not related to how it would work if there were comps were 2 or 3 of their same role were in a match with him.

Leagues of real sports adopt different rules all the time. Canadian football league has different rules than Australia, NFL, and American college.

Is football not a good enough game just because there is disagreement about what rules to use? Do you play with NFL rules when you play football with your friends? I don’t play OWL when I play overwatch.

That will never ever happen. It would be like Blizzard saying “we couldn’t figure out how to balance the actual game, so we will bandaid our esport to make it at least look good”.
