OW2 top 20th seller on Steam

Not bad considering the items on the shop are on their 2nd week. Except for the value/vault bundles which came out today.

Not too bad considering its the worst reviewed game on Steam.

I call that a Win!

Well; it’s always in the top 50 most played on steam, often breaks top 25. And it’s likely the platform with the least players, maybe switch has less.

I was just thinking the same thing. Talk about coming from behind to win.

OW players are mostly Tsundere.

If the player count and sales are good on Steam, which has bad reviews, I reckon it’s even better on platforms without bad reviews.

Plus, all you have to do is read some of the actual reviews to realize that most aren’t commenting on the quality of the game or the gameplay, they’re just venting about some change they’re unhappy with.

20 is terrible, I can’t even think in 10 games before you start seeing dead games.

I call that “lack of competition”. Let’s hope Rivals will provide for at least some challenge and force some improvements. I’m under no delusion that it will “dethrone” OW, but poking at it’s position is a good thing that will benefit players.

I think we all know that the reviews are only in that state because they were opened up 7 years after the game had already launched, which gave the vocal minority that is still mad about learning OW2 a place to publicly vent. It’s a unique circumstance, and it in no way reflects the state of the game or the average player’s actual opinion of the game.

Nobody rushes to post positive reviews of a game that’s several years old, but edgy internet kids who think it’s cool to hate on Blizz definitely rush to post negativity. The Steam reviews mean less than nothing in our case; they’re actively, purposefully misleading.

That’s a great question.

Back during the Halo 3/Reach days, I was obsessed and my life pretty much revolved around playing and trying to get as good at those games as possible. It hit a point where I walked away saying “yeah that was fun, but I gotta stop centering my life around a game like that, can’t let that happen again” and truly believed that was my last hurrah.

The only reason I tried OW was because it was Blizz’s first attempt at a shooter and it just looked genuinely fun. Because of the friends I made while playing, I’m still here all these years later.

As OW was my first FPS game using a kb/m, I got comfortable, and grew confident enough to try Valorant. OW also helped me discover a love of video editing. I only point that out because I was about to say “I kinda wish I’d never gotten hooked on this game” but it’s not all bad, and I have made some great friends who have legit helped me out IRL.

All that said, had I not played OW? I strongly believe I’d just be playing single player games now simply because none of my other friends play any multiplayer games like this.

Id argue any game that is multiplayer and has a shop with purchasable items is Overwatch’s competition.

But yeah, I am confident that Rivals will push OW2 in the right direction. I think we are already seeing this with the “Classic” mode out right now.

Hmmmm… not really. I wouldn’t ever consider wasting any time or money on some F-tier mobile garbage, even though it qualifies as a “Overwatch’s competition” under this definition. I’m fairly confident a lot of people feel the same way.

And even if we raise the bar to something sane, if someone likes OW for its characters, gameplay and genre - then it’s rather unlikely they will decide to spend time and money on a completely different genre, unless they happen to like both - but that’s an additional restriction, so it reduces the overlap, and therefore, a vector of impact such competitor would have on OW.

It’s much healthier to consider a direct competition as that would have a direct and most meaningful impact on the player-base. Think of it. If there was a game with comparable crisp character designs, great gameplay, appealing visuals, interesting game modes and monetization a-la OW1 or better? How long would it be until OW2 crowd pivots? I’d say, maybe a year tops. Add a good PvE on top and it’s a matter of several months if not sooner. Problem is - that’s a lot to ask. Concord showed how unprepared the industry is. Rivals will likely show how hard is to make something comparable.

How does a free game sell on steam?

“I hate the game, balance sucks, its not fun and I dont like the direction!”

  • buys every BP
  • buys 3 skins per season
  • plays it daily
  • boots up the game multiple times per day
  • goes to the OW forums

Yeah, I think thats accurate.

Wait, what’s wrong with that. There’s some funny stuff here.

Nah, its fine. Just that people who dont have interest or dont like the game anymore also do not use the forums. If people who dont play use the forums and just waste their time here, than thats especially sad, because it seems like they have not found a game that they would invest their time into like they did with OW.

Marvel rivals will be very interesting.

Not to bad considering steam reviews mean nothing

so what? game is utter crap, where that money is, is making an actual proffit, is making enough profit to invest more on the game, they hire more people to develope more things, how many people play, not much based on steam, where are the good reviews and the trust of the players, where is the succes of this game? when you sell recolors of 2016 skins for $20 maybe it will inflate how well it sells

to who, to players not, to developers not

game is still behind, is a one man race and is losing

which they are unhappy because quality is bad, duuuhhhhh

vocal minority of more than 300k well deserved bad reviews vs just 30k people playing

unique circumstance = a bad game that dissapointed everyone have bad reviews, very unique

the avarage player is not playing and give a bad review, is the majority who is not playing and the state of the game have a lot of problems not deserving a recomendation

big fat lie, when a game is good have positive reviews all the time, team fortress 2 have 94% of positive reviews in the last month

it means people hate the game, for real
