OW2 Mercy Tip: Use Your Pistol

Use your pistol.

Really. My aim is terrible. I’m lucky if I can hit the side of a barn, from inside the barn.

But, on the new maps, with some of the tight lanes people are forced down, I’m managing 2K plus. So for someone who usually has 0 in OW1, that’s something new. So if you can aim (unlike me), you’re going to do work.

Don’t go all Battle Mercy and forget your team, but definitely, when you have no beam opportunities, switch and fire off a couple. Or use Valk to finish off a couple people. It honestly feels like they made her potatoes larger. Truly. And what’s not to like about a girl with big potatoes to mash?

A little counterintuitive don’cha think?

I think what I’m trying to say is that, if I’m finding her pistol does work in my poor aiming hands in OW2, someone who actually has skills with it, will reeeeeeally enjoy it. Something feels different about it in OW2, and Mercies, who like me never really use it, should use it in OW2. Even if it’s just firing off a couple as you shift between targets, or GAing past enemies.

Does that make sense Snickurz?

Got it, I will use my pistol and petition change. org to make Mercy’s pistol hitscan. jkjk, I agree with yous.

question can you still fly to a player with the pistol out ?

Sure can, at least as far as I recall.

Yes, you always could. It’s kind of awkward because you need to be looking at your teammate/soul and whip your aim around and start shooting.

Every time I use my pistol in OW2 I die. The person I was going to GA to has gone off away from their power position and the objective to play TDM and I wind up getting killed by their Sojourn/Genji.

This is coming from a pistol regular in OW1 with good aim.

Also, people die instantly, so the second you pull out your pistol someone you could’ve been pocketing will have died.

I’ve just been trying to find that sweet spot as far as distance is concerned. Close enough that I can help, but far enough I don’t fall in the blender. And GA until I am carsick. And in those moments when everyone is ok, I fire off a couple down the lane. I’ve just been amazed at the numbers I see on the scoreboard from it. Heal when they need it, boost when you can, rez when it’s safe, and now, if you have the opportunity, pistol. Even if it’s just a quick couple shots, and back to your regularly scheduled program. That seems to work really well.

As a bonus, it seems to help build ult a little faster too.

But like OW1, Mercy’s life is the most important. Don’t die. A dead Mercy can’t heal.

Anyhoot, good luck out there.

I’d recommend it in general right now in OW 2 in Valk if nothing else. Currently Valk is busted from what i understand. The beams visually link, but don’t provide boost to secondary targets.

I thought the same, but someone mentioned the patched it. I have noticed that healing seems to be up from a day or two ago.

But yes, unlimited ammo in Valk is good fun.

They should give mercy dual pistols

I recommend mercy players master that

I just had a match where I got 7k damage done as Mercy (and around 1.5k boosted damage), and 8k healing. Was a long match, but yes I pistoled a lot.

Valk Mercy is scary.

Pistol needs a bit of a rework, faster switch speed, faster projectile speed, smaller hitboxes

I don’t wanna be that guy, but…
Must violence always be the solution?

Your question made me of a great idea to buff Mercy on PVP 2.0 : Using Guardian Angel (shift) on an ally should directly heal (or damage boost, choice is yours) them so Mercy can shoot at the same time at enemies while flying.

Maybe they could go with an animation where Mercy has her beam (from her staff) locked to the target (with her right hand) and holding her pistol with the other hand to shoot at enemies ?

Mercy’s issues is that she can’t heal and damage (more or less) at the same when a lot of other supports can. Doing both at the same time is what she’d need on the beta.

Does anyone else agree ?

Edit : the weapon switch is what’s holding Mercy back tbh. It always has. It was never clear to me where she’d hide her pistol while using her staff anyway.
