OW1 ends with 32 heroes: not 1 black woman

Again with the “tokenism” excuse

There isnt a black person in media: good, better this way instead of forced diversity

There is a black person in media: its tokenism

There is no middle ground, there is always an excuse

Bro most of Egypt is in Africa, so what about Ana

I stopped reading after “tokenism”

Honestly I’m sick to death of all the token white people in Overwatch, and honestly what’s up with Torbjorn having a wife and kids, it’s obviously just done to appeal to the straights. I wish they could write believable white people. SMH.

For me personally It becomes a joke when you start hiring people just for their skin color instead of their skills

Ana is from Africa…
The hero list could be completely mixed race or black with no white heroes and I wouldn’t mind if the gameplay was fun :man_shrugging:t3:

Just curious. Where does representation begin and end?

OW has a TON of Diversity. Heroes of different races, species, from different countries and ideologies. Why is specifically having a Black Woman important here? Adding a character to fill “representation” Quota is terrible. The character, like Sojourn, should be more than “black woman”.

When is it “enough”? When is there “enough” representation/diversity that people will be happy? Asking for a character so one can be represented is a bad starting stand point. A character should not be defined by, and played based on, their race.

Characters are diverse and I can relate to many of them even though I am of a different race, sex, gender and sexuality.

I don’t like any of of this “token” stuff it’s hella offensive

in London it multi-cultural area with more than 40% of the population there being non-white and recently a top end private school got visited by the Royal family and many people called the Headmistress a “token” as she was black and was showing them around her school, like WHAT? it’s the headmistress/headmasters job to show their guests around a school.

LIKE COME ON THATS HER MOMENT AND PPL GONNA CALL HER A TOKEN?

Ethnicity does not equal race. Just because a character has African ethnicity that doesn’t mean their race is automatically black.

What that does has to do with anything???

And I agree, people should be hired because of their skills not the skin color. But then again, POC people dont get the same oportunity as their white counterparts.

but she literally is black bro

I don’t think this is worth replying to. If you don’t have enough empathy in your heart to even realise what is being asked and why then I don’t think you’ll ever understand.

Shes not a black woman for the love of god, or do you think any person from Africa is instantly black? You do know there is white people in South Africa, right??

Well if we used this example what about those who live in Africa/south Africa that are white? Are you saying because they are African that they are black?

sorry just a bit confused on what you mean here.
