OW dev team have no idea what they're doing

They should be used as a bad example for people studying gaming/development/etc.
I’ve never seen a dev team fail so hard and fast at almost everything as they have done.
I used to love Overwatch, I met my wife through this game, I want to like it as I did before. But the state it is in now and how they handle it, it’s just horrible.

Can you give specific examples?

Yes. OW (especially OW2) is a good example of how not to make and run a game.

They’re not even deserving of the bad decisions school case price.

They just…messed up. But not even in a glorious way.

Well, one could be removing a tank without really fix anything around it to fix it. You can’t just remove one player to make 5v5 and think it’ll work out. One tank less is a huge impact on the game. You don’t have to ask me for examples, though. If you scout through the forums for a few minutes you will find people that will give you numerous of others.

I’ve seen all the complaints, I wanted to know what you considered to be proof of incompetence. They made a lot of balance changes in the change to 5v5, it’s not like they didn’t know they would need to do that.

People give numerous reasons why it works better for the game. In the end, its more about what does a person want from it and do those changes conflict with your ideal state of the game.

I prefer less tanks since it means DPS/Support can more directly access each other and make impact without having to get through tanks all the time either from massive bodies or shields.

Its so great being able to bionade, whipshot, boop, sleep dart, shoot, the enemy backline as support. Along with not having to deal with two feeding tanks because they are impossible to hit. It is just one tank at a time along with fewer people to have to track.

There arfe some issues such as I think tanks got buffed too much, but the upsides outweigh the downsides.

The simple fact that they shut down Overwatch to push us towards Overwatch 2 is proof enough. They didn’t even believe we would make the switch if we weren’t forced to.

With that said, I’m going back to my game of Starcraft. The first one. Because I CAN.

Do you feel that their balance changes are good enough, or work as they should?
Widow, as you probably know is a hot topic. Since they removed two tanks she is way scarier than in OW1 for obvious reasons.

Its covers multiple interests. Splitting the playbase is always going to be bad. Maintaining different code basis over time is always annoying. Maintaining the servers for it will always be annoying. There is only benefit after benefit for removing OW1.

I agree. Matchmaking is not great. And the robot maps should be in arcade. I love the game but I don´t love the robot maps. All these smurf accounts are, to be honest, a bit annoying. This battle pass thingie is not for me. I actually miss loot boxes, haha. It´s a bit unfair that we old OW-gamers got all these skins for “free” and all the new ones have to pay for it. Best regards/Sin´s wife

Well I know that they’re not done. We know that there are more balance changes coming next week. Balance in a game like this is never finished, there will always be ups and downs. Widow and Roadhog were not even that meta in S1, they rose to dominance because of various other changes which weren’t that obvious.

I agree, balance is never finished. But still, they’ve had several balance issues from the start. Balance issues has been in OW1 as well. But I can’t say it has been near as bad as it is now.
Edit: And don’t mention GOAT etc

Like I said, I can still play Starcraft.
And even Diablo II.
I’m not sure about Warcraft III since they messed up with reforged.

A sequel by definition is always at risk of splitting the playerbase.
In fact, I have my issue with many, many sequels.
Payday 2, Killing Floor 2, Dawn of war 2, Civilization VI…

But each of these games have a great perk. If I don’t like them or feel like the new content doesn’t outweigh the bad execution, I can always go back to the sequel and let new players enjoy the new game.

The playerbase has split in the worst way with Overwatch 2. Now we can’t stand each other because some want Overwatch back and others want to enjoy the game in peace.
It’s not like Original Overwatch fans and doomers want to be annoying. Nobody would even complain by now if we simply had the choice.
There would have been disappointed topics stating Overwatch is better…during the first month.

But here we are. Nearly half a year later and still angry.

I think they’ve been screwing up a lot.

But if they can keep up the type of stuff they’ve been doing in the last 2 weeks.

Then things are going to be good.

What have they been doing beside communicating?
I still don’t see anything that is going to make me enjoy Overwatch 2.

Unless they just announced a complete rework of every heroes in the game and a change that would make the next patch more akin to Overwatch 3.

I’m genuinely curious. Everybody says they’re suddenly full of hope.
But I don’t see the difference compared to the last time Blizzard woke up, mumbled they heard us and promised a bunch of changes just to go right back to sleep.

A bird in the hand is worth ten in the bush.

Tbh, I’m mostly hopeful because

  1. Matchmaking improvements, and a big focus on Matchmaking
  2. Hotfix system is ready to go, and they say they plan on using it frequently
  3. Big Balance changes, Jared Neuss was on SVB’s stream, and be seems like he genuinely knows what he’s talking about, and said they plan to “Get weird it” on more rapid and experimental balance changes. With of course Jon Spector also being excellent on that front as well.
  4. Communicating and admitting mistakes. Yes I know you said not this, but really what they’ve been doing is a huge departure from their old. And the first step of fixing problems, is admitting they exist.

The streamer protection stuff, and banning people will duo with cheaters is nice too.

But the big piece of the puzzle is getting enough Support players to fix Matchmaking, by combining point #1, #2, #3, and even #4.

They got all the tools and focus they need to fix things. So it’s just a matter of sitting back and seeing if they actually do it.

Also, yes, I see your Hog icon and I know he’s underwhelming right now. But he’s probably going to get reworked in the next 1-3 months. I know it sucks, as I’m also a Hog main. But in the grand scheme of things, that not that long to wait.

Heck, even just making it so that Tanks have less health in Open Queue and Arcade is gonna make a lot of people happy.

Roadhog patch does not bother me. I was a flex player, not necessarily a Roadhog main. I admit he’s my favorite character lore-wise though.

The game bothers me.
I can’t play Overwatch 2 because I do not enjoy it. And they can fix any number of issue, protect streamers, make a better anti-cheat…it will not revert the fundamental problem with Overwatch 2 which shifted its playerbase.

The game will still be 5v5, they are set on making tanks brawlers because they have a PTSD over tank queues. And maybe, maybe they’ll make 5v5 viable. Maybe even enjoyable.
But it will still revolve around role lock. Which is the opposite of what drew many players to Overwatch in the first place.

Well, I’m sure after they get their “fix open queue for 5v5” stuff sorted.

Eventually they will just make a 6v6 Open Queue.

Since it’s just easy content, and will get a lot of approval.

I’ll keep that in mind though.

But really, the sooner they get their act together on making 5v5 “stable”. Then the sooner they can consider a 6v6 mode.
