OW classic sucks because it uses the OW2 engine

Its a buggy mess that only tries to mimic how the game was back then.

Give us the REAL overwatch classic, old engine and all. Not this badly simulated crap.

Literally everything is slightly off, you’d need to have played the old game to know.

If you had both games installed and played them one after the other, you’d 100% notice how different the games are (and not graphically).

I don’t think it’s any secret that the ‘upgrade’ made OW run substantially worse.

I did play it.
Something feeling “slightly off” is not the same thing as “buggy mess”.

is it just me or do the players models look taller and thinner lol?

I wonder if the issue is that it’s not as buggy as it used to be but that also came at the cost of all the techs that were born with it.

As far as I know, you can’t super jump or anthing like that anymore.

This OW Classic event is from the Mercy “Moth Meta”, but there are multiple: missing, changed and/or buggy features on Mercy.

old actual og 6v6 was nothing like current 6v6 because the engine/netcode have been bogged out for crossplay/console inclusion. they patched away all kinds of movement tech, rollouts, map locations → because it was boohoo unfair and too difficult for thumbstick users to scale well and get value out.

skill expression was dumbed down (just like at sombra rework lol) so casual couch potates could desync the lobby with substandard peripherals/platform/network and sus every match with aim-assist / hitbox / ttk rigging.

it was a big upgrade with performance, it runs better but it’s not going to run anything like ow1 better because it’s not. all we got was a patch on the current game which i don’t completely blame the devs for getting things wrong… maybe it’s just me and the devs were lazy but the game is dying and at least there was some effort, the mode was really fun

No. Not at all. I have old hardware that I tried exactly on the transition ow1 → ow2 and the “new engine” on lower settings gave ~25% less frames

The old engine allowed to maintain ~70fps, the new one did not give stable 60 without fsr

One example that i detest is the sound design.

Sounds in OW1 was constant. I never, ever had moments where i didn’t hear anything when i was supposed to hear it. I heard it.

Now in OW2, i can hear my widows footsteps louder than the enemies widow who is closer to me.

Or have an enemy hanzo release a dragon from 5 feet behind me and not hear any voice line or sounds of dragon. Just see red and die, while my kill cam shows the hanzo flanking, which i should have also heard his footsteps but didn’t.

I honestly think the engine change was to encorporate rigging.

Their official reason I think was to better allow for pve though.

from what i’ve heard from everyone else, it’s the opposite

i mean you have a potato so idk if it’ll be worse for you, i got 120 in ow at normal settings and can barely run marvel rivals at 30 (intel XeSS lowest sharpening, 1152x648 all lowest settings) or even at 15-20 on maps like spider islands. if it’s not that map then with frame generation i can sorta get 60 (it feels horrible) but i never had anything like that on in ow

i still play ow on switch and it looks way worse than ow1 so maybe it’s a potato problem

These are the bugs I encounter constantly and frequently since ow2 came out. They were there in ow1 too, but much less frequently.

I saw tons of such messages on ow2 release too
If it worked better on old hardware before ow2, it means the performance has become worse, not better. No amount of sophistry about potatoes and the like will change that
Also, the performance of ow2 has also become noticeably worse compared to ow2 release

OWC sucks because they have the anti-cheat turned off and you run into cheaters more often than you can ignore. I didn’t get any last night and I was hopeful, today tho…

Here, enjoy an aimbotting Mercy (of all heroes) that was also gaslighting the lobby she’s “better than you” when it’s obvious she was aimbotting and in a few spots you can also notice the wallhacks. She puts a few shot onto a wall tracking the hero behind it. Glorious!

I’m sure each hero has a bunch of different bugged things on top of the entire engine being off.

For example bastion:

  • The recon gun shoots funny (probly just animation/sound)
  • cant cancel self heal like you used to
  • Repair meter disappears so you cant see how much you have
  • You can hold self heal while switching to turret mode
  • Ult sound is delayed (game-wide bug?)
