You have role queue in quick play with a match maker that favors 2-2-2 and allows you to play the arcade while your waiting for your queue to pop. This game needs structure from its very foundations and directions to the players within the game saying… this is how the game is supposed to be played.
Yes dps will have longer queues until a maximum time has elapsed that starts the game with whatever 6 best fits MMR and team composition but perhaps this will get people to try different roles and stop one tricking as often.
You tried the anything goes let anyone do anything they want experiment its failed, its continuing to fail. An actual foundation of how to play in the game is important when the entire game is built around the concept that your a team playing together. Clearly the game was developed by teams of 6+ people playing the game and communicating. Its time to start enforcing that this is the WAY to play from the most basic level of the game, quick play.
LFG failed because its an extra barrier to entry and its why people dont use it. Its not even in a good spot on the interface. Look at LFG for just quick play at any given time you’ll find a handful of groups and most of them are memes anyways. Yea i can use LFG but it takes an extra 10-15 minutes to get a group together and they will disband after the first loss.
If you’re not willing to use LFG, you’re not deserving of a role queue.
You can’t expect people to be okay with dealing with the negative side effects of a role queue if you’re not okay with dealing with the negative side effects of LFG.
I won’t deny that LFG is… clunky. But it’s there. I wish more people bothered using it. I’d love a decent qp group. But the ones I end up in tend to be so focused on winning that they break up after one loss. We could go 10 winning games, and the second we lose everyone leaves.
I really agree with this. Match making can not work well partially because it never knows when any given group of decent players, are just going to not end up in a decent comp. The people who would end up with longer queues are also rewarded with more balanced and enjoyable games.
Role Q seems like an absolute necessity at this point. It will bring a lot of much needed structure to the game and it will balance.
IMO it is how it should have been from day one.
It just feels ok to know that the moment i load into the game i get 2 healers and 2 tanks, doesn’t matter if it is Lucio + Zen or Hog + Hammond, its still light years better than being placed with 5 players who want to play dps. Even if they eventually flex to other roles you find they can’t play the role very well and often those people switch at after a teamfight is lost. I want to play with people who play what they want not forcing and pleading with people to conform.
Challenge with user created grps such as those of LFG that i find is that they usually have very specific wants which may not always suit, the alternative being to create your own and i for one am too lazy to manage a group and it gives very strange Q times (sometimes short and sometime very long).
And if there are not many people making groups in your elo you run a serious risk of unfavorable matchmaking when you an get paired with groups that have been playing together for so long and have very good comms and synergy while your new group is strangers who just want a balanced team.
There just shouldn’t be that much to consider to just get a balanced team. IMO LFG should compliment the role Q for players who want to develop funky comps like goats etc
Even if these groups have very specific wants, they’re still an option in place. And to be honest, most of the groups I see have 6 flex slots. For a lot of people it’s not even about needing to enforce a specific comp like a role queue, but just getting people who communicate.
And while you may have issues in comp with LFG matchmaking in your elo, does it really matter in QP? Because the original post asks for role queue in every game mode.
Also sorry, no malice intended, but “I’m too lazy to manage an LFG group” isn’t the best argument . Though admittedly there is a fair truth in that, because LFG is a pain to work through.
I wish it wasnt just a pain but no one is using it. Every time I open it up I can count the total number of teams being formed on my fingers. This also isa huge disincentive to use it in the future. You can only open the LFG window so many times or use it and see your groups fall apart after one loss before people stop using it all together. Trust me its not HARD to use LFG but when you look at how many people are using it to get groups and see how abysmal the options are it really begs the question why? I don’t know the answers to why LFG has seen its use dramatically decrease or the answer to the issues OW is having but its clearly a band-aid on a bullet wound.
