Overwatch 2 on MacOS Advice

This is absolutely insignificant for the company.

Lol. It’s just LPDDR5 with more channels. Literally DDR5.

However, I had a good laugh at the praises of one of the most overpriced pieces of hardware in the world, thanks)

Just curious about 1 thing: how do you deal with higher refresh rates with macos ?
Do you just plug into a compatible monitor (say 144 or more hz) and it Just Works ™ ? On say, a mbp m3 max

That’s… not a huge playerbase. At all.

Cool. So let’s say there are ‘over 5000’ macOS users that want to play Overwatch. In fact, let’s be generous and say there are 10000 users. Overwatch 2 has 10x that number of Followers on Steam alone - Mac users make up less than 10% of the userbase on the minority PC platform.

Given that macOS has about 20% of the Desktop OS marketshare, that number is still way too low. If there is actual, real, overwhelming demand for Overwatch on macOS, the number of users would be somewhat proportional to the measured marketshare, no?

LMAO   .

I mean it’s a fair point if you’re running Photoshop or editing videos.

But even then, it isn’t as clear-cut as they’re making it out. Macs are just finally competitively-priced.

There are some missing points in this discussion!

  • One cannot restrict discussion to current market share as this fails to take into account the segment that would switch from other platforms
  • This “total addressable market” would likely be sizeable
  • For example one would need to factor in that many Windows users would happily switch over to Mac full-time if they could play their favourite games
  • With every additional game that is brought to the platform this market increases - but at the current time there is a notable gap in the Mac gaming sphere
  • This would more than justify a native port

:heartpulse:

This is a way better argument for a Linux port than it is for a macOS port.

It isn’t the responsibility of game publishers to prop-up macOS. Go ask Apple to make their OS more friendly to developers. Proper, native Vulkan support would do wonders for game developers.

Gaming on Mac is looking better than ever we recently got Palworld and Cyberpunk 2077 coming shortly these are exciting times my friends!

That’s the other alternative: hope that Apple throws a fat stack of cash at Microsoft to port their game like they did with those ones.

I believe that we should continue to pressure both Microsoft and Apple to ensure that it’s understood that there’s a clear demand for such an offering!

I truly believe we’re on a good track at the moment!

Just need to remain hopeful!

I don’t think you understand.

Unlike ferraris or Rolex companies, Apple tries to catter to gamers… without cattering to developpers. There’s just no profitability for Team 4, who in all honesty probably remains a miracle that they still are up within Blizzard after years of non-sense.

One could argue “millions use a Mac” and one could argue “Not every Mac user games”. That’s pretty much the reality of it. Unless OSX is actually ‘friendly-user’ and costless, there’s no reason to make the jump without an incentive from Apple.

Source? The people who switch to Windows via a Mac OS computer generally don’t do it for gaming.

Maybe in 20 years Mac can be considered a gaming platform, it’s just not gonna happen ‘because Overwatch suddenly does it’.

Again, if the market isn’t profitable, there is no justification. Compagnies try to make you think in general they care for people, but that’s a byproduct ratio of ‘it earns me money, so therefore I’ll pretend’.

Linux is for users who hate windows.
MACOS is for users who Love Unix.

Would be more productive to ask apple to support open standards to enable wine/proton variants to work properly in there. That way you could pretty much play most of the games out there aside some few who would actually run but their own anti-cheats wouldn’t.

Blizzard just need to not leave their way to mess up stuff, which usually they don’t at least on other platforms. Apple did it to itself, also.

Why ask for paid stuff if you could have a free alternative. Wine/Proton are open and usually well maintained, until about 2018 it worked at some fashion but Apple itself made moves to not enable it anymore.

I think folks should direct their frustration towards the actual problem, which would be Apple vision of gaming or actually hindering the ability of do it properly.

KEKW you are so lost

That’s not my name and no I am not lost, you are just in denial.

Not gonna lie, but most folks wouldn’t even know what UNIX is. That both among MacOS and other OS users.

Most users wouldn’t even care even if you explain them. Which shows a lot considering how many users Windows has and why is still that way.

While windows have it’s flaws is way more user friendly than most alternatives. Linux improved in several aspects of it in terms of compatibility and gaming, but the same user base often hinders the approach-ability of Linux. While MacOS have some usability perks is not a system affordable and neither really intuitive either. For the better or the worst, windows in that department still wins against both until the mindset of both communities improves and start to working towards actual useful stuff. Otherwise threads like those wouldn’t be even needed to begin with.

At the very least I’d like to see the game made compatible with CrossOver 25!

Tbh, at this point I would say apple could simply enable wine/proton in an official manner. That alone would make wonders and help gamers on pretty much on several platforms, including mobile users on iphones/ipads.
