Call of Duty is different because it is a franchise that has three separate development Studios creating each sequel that is released practically every year. OverWatch and OverWatch 2 is being made by the exact same development team at Blizzard Entertainment.
I could see them keeping open queue or quickplay classic as 6v6.
What about if we keep the original Game separate?
It is not like the current version is worth much playing either.
They should have started from scratch with OW2 and have learned from their mistakes.
Instead we are going to get a slightly different game that won’t be a hole lot better.
I could see them keeping open queue or quickplay classic as 6v6.
They could but the problem there is that the hero balance will be so significantly different to where the those modes may not even be enjoyable. So there’s no telling how much modes like quick play classic or No Limits will be impacted with the release of OverWatch 2.
I figure either they just let it be cheesy balancing.
Or they let it be 6v6, but with a 1 Tank maximum per team, but no role queue.
Overall the main benefit of those modes is to sponge up excess would-be DPS players off of Role-Queue.
And 1-3-2 or 1-4-1 would help with that.
I figure either they just let it be cheesy balancing.
Legit I wouldn’t care too much about balance. If it’s 6 tanks vs 6 tanks then so be it lul
This isn’t even a reply to me. It literally does not matter how many studios are working on it. It doesn’t stop the playerbase from segregating (And in some ways encourages it).
Yes it isn’t but the reason I posted is that OP didn’t even mention that they acknowledged and are working on the problem leading to his/her conclusion that DPS will be OP at launch,
Whether they make DPS stronger or weaker than healers at launch just pure speculation. They are acknowledged and are working on the very reason OP says it will happen.
As you say, we don’t know to what extent they will make those changes.
You are comparing a legacy multi-year franchise that releases every year to relatively new IP that will have 2 releases in 6 years.
They are not the same.
It’s like comparing metal gear solid to FIFA.
From a business strategy perspective it would be stupid to split the playerbase considering it has declined and queue times are already an issue.
You may want them to be brave, I want them to be smart.
Also, CoD went to the ‘platform approach’ connecting the playerbase for Warzone and I expect it to continue along that direction.
Yes but they’ve been able to get away of that system because they do have the player diversity. I’d also note and that whenever a new Call of Duty releases , the previous title usually has about one or maybe two years of updates before it goes into maintenance mode if shut down its multiplayer features entirely. Not to say that this isn’t changing in some ways such as Call of Duty warzone which is more of a continuous live service.
Personally, I know when it finally comes it will be it for me. It’s simply not the game I was playing for the past 5 years so no reason to stay.
Current Overwatch is already a completely different game from classic Overwatch. But at least this transition happened gradually over the course of many bad patches. OW2 will be a completely different game from both classic and current OW. 100% a reboot with changes to a majority of the roster. Imagine the reception for OW2 when we get all this replaced content at once. I’m looking forward to the seethe.
I’m becoming more and more concerned to be honest. I was very much in the “try it before you hate it” camp, but as we get closer, as we hear more about it, I’m starting to wish they kept the two titles separate. OW as it is now without the new changes, and OW2 however they want to make it.
I’m sure people would play both, but I just really am not comfortable with the idea of completely letting go of OW in favour of whatever OW2 turns out to be. I don’t think it’s necessary and I don’t think it’ll be a good thing to force all that change on us while deleting the core of the game we know and love that brought us to where we are now.
If OW2 takes place in the future, let it be a proper sequel by honouring the past game and letting it stand on it’s own rather than butchering the memory of it in the name of progression or evolution.

Um, kinda weird, did you mean to quote my opinion and do it wrong or did you just take my opinion and post it as yours word for word? Cuz that’s kinda weird, homie. Ngl.
Current Overwatch is already a completely different game from classic Overwatch.
Basically.
Overwatch didn’t used to be focused entirely on AntiDive spam or Barrier spam.
AntiDive spam or Barrier spam.
Welp, before it didnt had that well working dive and many barriers as well.
This game is Ship of Theseus basicialy i guess.
More like people are acting like 2016-2018 Overwatch was played with DoubleBarrier and GOATs with triple stun comps.
As if the game used to be MOBA/Defence biased, previous to the Hanzo rework.
When it was Kills/Offence biased.
And that shifting the game back to Kills/Offence bias, is “Not Overwatch”.

I was not playing as offence kills game after first month of learning how to play the game.
At first rein going in to agressive was seen as bad idea, and not knowing how to play him, now if you dont charge like idiot, you are called trash tank XD
I will miss 2 tanks, but we can’t help it that overwatch balance team is full of boomers who can’t come up with a creative way to balance them
well, its called overwatch 2 , ofc its not overwatch.
You’re not wrong about the seethe. I look forward to Day One on here.
