The more I hear about Overwatch 2 and all the changes the more I’m starting to hate it is anyone else like that? Like it’s not gonna be Overwatch it’s like a watered down mobile version. Ok one less tank. Healing is too strong so team fights go on longer. Healing is nerfed. Tanks are brawlers. Ok. Less shields. So now we have no shields and no healing. Dps move faster. Now supports can’t escape them. So the game is all catered to dps. So now it’s que simulator because can’t find a game because all the tanks and healers left the game. It sounds awful. Can’t see myself buying it tbh. Like there’s a story mode…. Cool not enough to buy it. Could have just done and anime to flesh out the story. Think people think it’s gonna be some destiny like rpg. Can’t see it happening. Should have just supported the game they had and keep upgrading it.
I’m becoming more and more concerned to be honest. I was very much in the “try it before you hate it” camp, but as we get closer, as we hear more about it, I’m starting to wish they kept the two titles seperate. OW as it is now without the new changes, and OW2 however they want to make it.
I’m sure people would play both, but I just really am not comfortable with the idea of completely letting go of OW in favour of whatever OW2 turns out to be. I don’t think it’s necessary and I don’t think it’ll be a good thing to force all that change on us while deleting the core of the game we know and love that brought us to where we are now.
If OW2 takes place in the future, let it be a proper sequel by honouring the past game and letting it stand on it’s own rather than butchering the memory of it in the name of progression or evolution.
At first I didn’t like it, but then after 1000000 games of double shield in quick play I’m open to only one tank…and that’s coming from a dva main with probably 500 hours on her.
As a bonus most cc is going away so that’s something to look forward to. No more pinballing when enemies go doom ball lucio
I myself want to be able to try playing Overwatch 2 in some form first myself. I am a bit hesitant on these changes as they are talked about. Its not so much about the 5v5 change, but just a lot of the major changes to the various heroes needed to make 5v5 work. For example the recent news about Brigitte planned to lose her stun from shield bash is a major concern for me.
I’m pretty calm to be honest.
You left out the part where they said they will nerf flankers and mobile heroes.
I don’t think they are “catering” to a specific group. I think they want a fun balanced experience and everything they have shown so far tells me.
A) they are taking it very seriously
B) they are putting player experience in the center
I’m a Doomfist main that enjoys the hero as is and I know he will undergo a rework because of the global cc reduction/removal for non-tank heroes.
With more freedom on what to do with the hero than they had for simple balance updates with OW1, I’m sure they’ll come up with something fun.
basically 100% what u said.
wud love to have some kind of say or try b4 u buy
and i don’t mean second hand “watch xyz streamer and stand buy for drops and rng beta keys”.
shield bash doesn’t need to be cc it’s 9/10 a mobility trick except for stopping massive ults or big wombo combos. it shouldn’t be a free stun on flankers or in the worst case force cd trades. but i digress on that.
as for pve/rpg i am quite excited to have game modes to keep me/family/friends entertained that don’t involve sweating vs. human trolls
yea what I saw in that pvp live stream is not overwatch. that game looked so boring and bland. it’s crazy because I’m pretty sure they’re doing this to appeal to the OWL. and if you don’t like ow2 there’s no ow1 to go back to. it’s sad, really sad.
You’re right it’s not Overwatch, it’s like Overwatch but with 2 on the end
This is exactly what scares me the most. I have around 2800 hours in this game across all my accounts. ~2200 on my main account alone. I play Overwatch every single day, often for 5 or 6 hours per day or more. It’s clearly obvious that I love this game. And I am terrified of losing it. What will I turn to if I hate OW2?
Yea OW2 looking pretty bad so far.
Honestly blizz has a habbit of replacing old characters with new ones. Since youve been playing for some time you have all the skins on old characters like Rein. But if they launch a new character you aint got anything on them so you might have an incentive to buy a loot box to get their skins.
Which is why every new hero nowadays Always changes the meta completely. To make them a must-pick. And then everybody wants to buy boxes to get their new mains skins. Why buff Rein if you can buff Sigma? Everybodys got Rein skins but people might not have Sigma skins cuz hes new. Sigma is basically better Rein, Bap is like a better Mercy. Ashe was a McCree/Widow clone and at some point stronger than Cree.
I wonder if theyre trying to butcher some characters on Purpose, cuz there will be new versions of themselves that will be way more busted. Like Sombra is getting destroyed, same with Mei. I wouldnt be surprised if the new characters will do Sombras and Meis job way better than them. And now everyone who used to main Mei n Sombra is in a race to buy boxes to get their better versions’ skins.
I too like to form strong opinions on games that haven’t been released yet. Cautious optimism!

Title. That’s the point. Overwatch 2 is Overwatch 2 but will probably have classic Overwatch as an arcade mode. If PvP stayed the same people would rage saying that the PvE is just an expansion and PvP is just additional heroes and maps which stops it from coming close to being a sequel.
It’s more of a sequel with both PvP changes which change how the game is played and PvE additions than it would be with the addition of PvE alone.
Anything’s possible, but I highly doubt that there will be a classic Arcade mode.
That would require two different versions of each character. Two different versions of each map. New heroes might not be designed for 6v6 so they might need two different versions too.
This is more work than I expect them to invest into what essentially will amount to an admission that they don’t know best, meaning their ego is involved here.

We all need to wait. We only getting small pieces of information without knowing the true reasons why they changing things. They already playing internally with the new Heroes we didn’t saw yet. This means that they balancing the current heroes around the new ones. We can’t say yet if it’s good or bad without playing OW2 with 5v5 + the new heroes. So we need to calm down.
They’ve done tank and support analysis days. We don’t have the dps analysis yet, which is why everything sounds so doom and gloom. I can’t imagine they won’t have a bunch of changes for them as well.
Yes but they mentioned the above point in the support analysis.
I think the doom mongering is a bit much but I do see that no news means people create their own narrative.
The only problem with that is the 6 hour queue times it would create.
TFW you make a bunch of terrible changes in a sequel, but it’s NOT ACTUALLY a sequel so people can’t just play the old game because you’ve forced this on them.
Then you demand payment, because you’re protected from reprisal.
6v6 is actually available with all maps and heroes. (we play it right now) The only problem would be new maps, heroes and modes (push).
I see it as unrealistic to keep everything up to date for two patches, but you could make the Arcade Classic mode really classic by making Overwatch 6v6 (RQ and / or OQ) without the new heroes, maps and modes from OW2 and not updating or just minimally adjusting it.
If we’re honest, the whole balance patches are mostly small changes in numbers, there +2 DMG, there -25 HP or -1sec CD, etc. If it’s all about that, you don’t need a big team. Some who analyze the data and then think about what could be changed and then insert that. It is actually not a big effort. That’s why I’m surprised that we have so few balance patches. Are the devs afraid of accidentally fixing 6v6 and making 5v5 superfluous?
Regardless of whether we get such a classic mode, with or without balance patches. There would be little programming effort and it only would need more memoryspave on the user hard drives, nothing more.
You’re right, it’s not hard to do. I still think they’ll be highly resistant to it though because of the ego factor and them wanting to have things be consistent for the image of the game with OWL and that. Also, there’s the new UI which will be designed for 5v5. I accept your points on the difficulty but I think the idea of “we know best” is very strong in them and they’ll be highly reluctant to give us a Classic mode on that basis but then present it as a “it’s too much work” as an excuse.
I hope I’m explaining that clearly. Maybe I’m just being overly pessimistic about it.
