Objectively and holistically OW2 is NOT a good game.
It has fun moments and when fair matches occur and when certain compositions and situations happen. This is good.
The characters are mostly interesting and varied. This is good.
There are some characters that are very unbalanced or extremely annoying to play against or with and some have been made ineffectual at their jobs so that playing them is a handicap but there is no warning about this and the attitude towards this by the makers is that they will fix it… someday. This is bad.
The rewards and involvement in customization are expensive or prohibitive in acquisition . The game demands you play on it’s schedule and not your own and focus on the gameplay IT deems rewardable. This is bad
The developers continue to promise incredible levels of content and sell items using FOMO only to renege on these promises later or arbitrarily bring back content that was sold on lack of information of future acquisition causing disappointment when perceived value is taken away or never delivered. This is bad.
The game continually alienates and disenfranchises it’s veterans. Offering little incentive to participate in new events or campaigns. Killing interest and excitement. This is bad
The matchmaker is incredibly loose. This is bad, especially with the low player count available.
The punishments and/or incentives to finish games are sparse. This is bad and aggravates the previous problem.
The report/punishment system is INCREDIBLY gameable and abusable and currently exceedingly poorly reviewed or checked with people getting form letters that are provably and increasingly not reviewed by someone who actually understands what they say or entail. This is bad.
The game updates release with extremely obvious bugs and lacks QA, exposing people to incredibly unsatisfying and frustrating experiences. This is bad.
You keep talking about “the whole game” and that includes every bit of it. The gameplay, the development, the interaction, the presentation, the monetization, The history, the depth, the interaction, and the regulation.
There’s fun gameplay IN there and possible. This does not make it a good game.
