Overwatch 2 Explained: Battle Pass, Shop, Hero Unlocks, and more

Well that’s disappointing

  1. Shouldn’t the weekly challenge rewards go up instead of going down? 30 for 4, 20 for 8 and 10 for 11? Somehow that doesn’t really make sense.

  2. How can we get OW credits in OW2 if the main source (loot boxes) are gone?

That’s exactly what they said. Kiriko is free to OW1 owners (as long as they log in before season 3) and JQ + Sojourn are free to anyone who logs in to season 1. But come seasons 2+, you better shell out the money or wait for them to have their challenge unlocks available.

They answered that as well. You purchase the cosmetics for legacy heroes via OW2 currency if you run out. OW1 currency only works on a handful of new items for OW2 chars.

Or grind to 55 on the free battlepass. And that’s if they stick with level 55 in the future.

Next time im not paying for a battle pass where Mercy gets nothing , thanks devs, and it seems that after 7 years, Mercy will still not get a new skin on Halloween, you are fabulous OW Team.

tbh, all that would do is make it worse for the players, imagine missing out on 30 coins rather than 10 if you cant complete your last weekly challenge.

I’m pretty sure you wont be able to earn more OW1 credits at all as only some old content can be available for credits OR the new coins. AKA they want you to use the new currency on old cosmetics.

But… Mercy is getting a new legendary skin and a spray. Season 1 Trailer | Overwatch 2 - YouTube

So 60 coins from challenges per week, 9 week seasons, 540 coins. Since the BP will be 1k, a free to play player who has zero intention of spending any money will be able to purchase a bp every other season. That’s only if they don’t purchase anything in the shops and if they do, don’t spend more than 80 coins in two seasons or 40 coins in one season.

Or they can spend $5 to get 500 coins and combine that with the 540 earned in the season to take it to 1k but that’s pretty much at the end of the season and not spending more than 40 coins.

Hmm.

Guess my plan for a one time initial $10 invetment for a forever BP loop goes out the window :sob:

But if you get the Watchpoint Pack for $40 (which is essentially 4 BP’s), you get Season 1 BP and 2K coins to use for Seasons 2 and 3. You also get 2 skins and Legendary Overwatch stuff.

If anything, if you do not play Cassidy or Soldier and already have Overwatch 1, especially Origins or the Legendary edition. You will be LOSING $10 with the Watchpoint Pack essentially.

Most likely the only thing you can buy for 80 coins is one of those gun charms, if you are lucky.

Y’all can fix all of this by keeping battle pass cosmetic only, yet after the massive backlash last week where OW2 was trending every day, getting bad press constantly, nobody stopped and thought “maybe making our game pay to win is a bad idea”.

Nah, you fell off. I’d rather quit entirely than play a pay2win game

Junker Queen and Sojourn are free for everyone who logs in to Overwatch 2 during Season One, and Kiriko is included for all original Overwatch owners through the Founder’s Pack, which you can redeem by logging into Overwatch before Season Two.

Lmao so new players wont have Junker queen, Sojourn or Kiriko if they joined after season 1.

they gotta do some challenges if they dont get a hero in the season they’re released in. If they complete those they get the hero

so the premium battle pass (1000ow coins) features 60 tiers to unlock and the premium battle pass selling at 2200 ow coins features additional 20 (for a total of 80) tiers to unlock?

or the BP@2200 ow coins unlocks the front 20 tiers instantly like how Apex did.

The second one

Will overwatch coins be earnable in the battle pass as well or is it purchase/weekly challenges only?

None of the stories say that there is premium currency in the battle pass, but like the Gamespot one only lists out 50 things.

If there is actually premium currency in the pass and it’s just been ignored, this would be a huge Blizzard communication fail… again

Well the FAQ on the website says:

Overwatch Coins are the new virtual currency we’re introducing in Overwatch 2. They can be purchased directly in the Shop or earned by completing in-game weekly challenges.

Some people here are so selfish and shortsighted. This will absolutely kill the integrity of the game long term. Think about a new player starting OW2 a year from now and having 6 heroes unavailable to them.

Same exact BS as Val/Apex/League. It’s so much fun to boot up a F2P game only to see that you’re unavailable to select a fraction of the roster without grinding like a slave isn’t it?

OW2 is the antithesis of what Overwatch was designed to be. This game has Bobby Kotick’s handprints all over it.

The weekly challenges give you 540 per season. The good part is free players can earn them. The bad part is that not getting at least the same currency you paid in is much, much worse than most of the popular games out there.

I’m more worried about future heroes, 1 out of 35 heroes locked is not a big deal if you never played OW before.

But locking new heroes is still BS
