One tricks in a nutshell

The best way to describe a one trick is someone that thinks they can only play one character but it’s a total myth onetricks are just people that found the character that suits the, best early in the game and these characters will usually in most cases be hero’s that are not used in a competitive mode because they are easy to play and they don’t want to put the time into another character that they think there not going to make progress on

One tricking has drastically fallen as a tactic.

The true one tricks are the OG one tricks who provide such a skill gap they can manage most situations. To the many one tricks reading that, YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM.

These OGs have been playing since the game inception, birth, release, or beta. If you haven’t put in that much time, which is literal years and several 1,000s of hours, you will never reach their level of skill unless your a prodigy at this game like Dafran or one of the pros.

Another thing hitting this hero tactic hard is the fact tanks are gigabusted, supports are trickier then ever, and now bursy damage is slowly coming back making it harder to compete under a broken MMer.

Flexing or counterpicking has been more accepted over these past 3 years. To where even the OG one tricks acknowledge that their favorite picks don’t fit every situation anymore even if they can make it work for most situations.

Hell many of the most famous ones have swapped heros already.

It’s harder to make one tricking “work” now in OW2 because counterswapping has become a lot more impactful. Not only for tanks but other roles too. Every role has more throw potential now, so by not swapping to best heroes to fit your situation, that will significantly affect your win potential. You can still one trick and win games of course, but it’s a lot harder now in OW2.

I completely agree, but for that reason I think one tricking a new hero every season is even better. I used to do this in OW1.

It REALLY helped me master heroes more than I could otherwise, cause if you one trick you truly learn how to deal with every situation imaginable. It’s gotten to a point where if someone goes Zarya against my DVa, they’re throwing. Cause I will eat gravs.

In OW2 that holds even more ground because counter swapping is so strong.

And when you then don’t one trick for a while, you can’t always immediately walk to spawn and swap, so imo it’s super useful.

I mean more power to you if you feel empowered one tricking heroes especially as a tank. Back in OW1, one tricking even as a tank felt alright and not that tilting, because hero picks didn’t matter as significantly.

But in OW2, especially for tank players, one tricking often means you’re going to have a bad time when you get hard-countered. Perhaps dealing with all the unfavorable match-ups will make you a better tank player in the end. But man is it tilting, I just can’t imagine myself one tricking, especially on a tank role lol.

On a side note, I guess if you’re one tricking tanks like D.va or Winston, I could see the game still feeling rewarding even when you get hard-countered. Because mobility often allows you to bypass hard-counters. Whereas if you’re on a low mobility tank with massive hitbox like hog…the game can often feel infuriating against hard-counters.

There are one tricks for every hero. It has nothing to do with it being easy and everything to do with only liking that hero. I was a Mercy otp for a long time but then I found enjoyment in Kiriko. And now I want to otp Juno because her character is so adorable and her gameplay is fun. That is also the criteria for why I otp dva. If I find a hero I like everything about, I don’t want to play anyone else :woman_shrugging:

I don’t want to get off Ball but how is a Mercy one trick suppose to help me with that?

I’d rather swap to help my team and not cost us the match.

Because I understand the consequences of when I don’t swap.

There’s a whole ton of negatives to one tricking including watching your favorite hero die a whole ton to where you feel like a newb on that hero again.

DVA is absolutely OP atm so one tricking her rn is definitely a good choice. I remember when I OTP’d her in season 5 (OW1) people would throw the game lol.

I don’t play mercy anymore because she is just a throw pick coin flip hero and has become boring because you have no impact on anything unless your dps are good. In which case, you could just play someone other than Mercy and provide better utility and a better ultimate.

I’ve been one tricking her since the week I bought ow1. This has nothing to do with her being “op.”

Then you’re not a one trick…

If you looked at my comp profile from seasons 3-7 you would agree that I one tricked her. Then in season 9 I went back to playing mostly dva.

Are you playing Dva because she’s busted right now?!

Why would you even call yourself a one trick? That’s meta chasing.

Yeah man I put 800 hours into a hero in just one season :woman_facepalming:

Onetricking can be gameplay sabotage and is therefore a reportable offence it certain situations

Then counter swapping can be reported for toxicity :sparkling_heart:

The game was designed around countering and adapating in games, not to be an otp, theres a big difference

Real Dva one tricks remember 500 total hp Dva

If you recall, in ow1 the report system specified that hero choice is not a valid reason to report someone for throwing
