ONE-TRICKS 'Avoid as teammate' 🤔

A lot of you asked for it and it’s finally here! AVOID AS TEAMMATE.

What is avoid as teammate?
You can select a player and ‘block’ them from being on your team for a period of 1 week.

Why?
Toxicity, not working together well, etc.

What are people REALLY going to use it for?
Sym & Torb, prepare to get ignored…

How many can I block?
Two. Only two.

In reality?
Geoff mentioned in the ‘dev update’ video that if you get ‘avoided’ enough you’ll actually receive a ‘warning’ upon logging in. If you see the warning, you’ll likely have longer queue times!

Have fun!

You can only avoid 2 players at a time…for most players it wont change much i guess. On grandmaster youre gonna have a hard time as torb main perhaps.

People who intend to abuse the feature specifically to avoid One-Tricks amuse me. I say, let them avoid. They’ll have used up their avoid slots and will then wonder why they’re still getting matched up with more one-tricks, in addition to being unable to keep them avoided if an actually toxic player joins their team.

Then again, if someone avoids you simply for being a one-trick, even if you’ve played well and contributed heavily to your team, it’s probably best that you’re not playing with those individuals to begin with.

You made a good point. This change is clearly not for the masses its for GMs who have a very limited player pool and they are clearly the only ones blizz cares about. Those two votes will start to add up fast if its only 1000 or so players.

False. It’s meant to avoid anyone I don’t want to play with. Period.

You act as if this isn’t the ‘proper’ way to use it. You may have said it indirectly, but your desire to make your opinion the ‘correct’ way to use a function is baffling.

You just edited this, but I recall it saying “I don’t think it will change much imo,” which reflects your hidden bias. You clearly don’t like it being used against 1-tricks, but I’m super glad players can take these matters into their own hands to an extent.

Anyone who refuses to play more than one niche hero no matter what should expect some sort of downside for being a detriment to their team. It won’t affect lower ranks much, but I’m hopeful that it will help with how people deal with teammates they dislike.

That’s not how it’s going to play out at the higher levels of comp or in smaller server pop areas. People at a certain high or very low SR tend to bump into the same players over and over in a given night of playing.

So what’s going to happen to say a one trick SYM main at low masters is they play one game, odds are get avoided by maybe 8 players in the server. As in their entire team and a few who notice the player on the other team. Even if you personally don’t have a problem playing with a SYM one trick your team will so if you see one, avoid them, always. Put them on the other team, get that team to tilt and maybe get a easy win for yourself.

over the course of a given night that SYM maybe gets blocked by 12+ people after say 2-3 games. Now those 12+ spread out to 8+ different teams and games. It very quickly will make it tough for that SYM, at a high SR, off peak time etc to get a game.

Kind of harsh? maybe. Better than getting a ban off the avoid system? maybe… Just have to see how this plays out.

Yet if you are in comp and see toxic tilt the team sort of player, for any reason, you are a fool not to instantly avoid them and hope your next queue after that game puts them on the other team. Due to your avoid.

The reality is you’ll encounter your third one trick. :scream: You’ll hastily add them. And then get thrown by somebody who’s just toxic anyways.

One tricks contributing to a team? Yes, at times. But they do not give a penny if they get hard countered. So please, stop encouraging such atrocious acts. And no, Mercy’s nerf is an opportunity for you to learn other healers.

one tricks are gonna get blocked by 5 players each game until only one tricks meet one tricks

mhm, i’d like to see this in a one year scale

abuse the feature

This is exactly what it’s for, it’s not abuse in the slightest.

Sure people can use it to avoid one-tricks, but anyone with sense will realize that’s a poor use of their avoidance’s, when they could be using it on people being a genuinely negative effect on your matches instead of the very first Sym/Torb you see that may not even be bad.

Exactly.

One-tricks defend their right to play the hero they want (and nothing else)…and that’s fine…

…but how about when they’re on a team with 5 other Sym/Torb mains? :stuck_out_tongue:

A good start, but it’s not enough.

If I put someone on Avoid, I want to avoid them FOREVER. Not 7 days. Not a month. PERMANENTLY.

And only 2 at a time? Do you even know what goes on in Competitive on console, Jeff? There are throwers, smurfs, and toxic players in almost EVERY. SINGLE. MATCH.

2 at a time is nowhere NEAR enough.

As for match fairness, there can be no such thing so long as smurf accounts are allowed in game.

Regarding the warning if you get a high number of avoids, expect to see a lot of forum threads from Torb/Symm/etc mains who get this message, seeing as they’re still getting banned and not having those bans overturned by Blizzard GMs.
