I was in a match with a kid the other day running Genji against Winston, brigette, moira and Symettra and he was literally in tears on the mic because he couldnt do anything, yet he still didnt swap.
I play to find out where my Orisa skills belong among all tiers and to look for improvements whenever chances are given.
So I love to play into my counters and to die trying over and over again, by which I learn and develop new strategies against my weaknesses.
I care none about my teammatesâ gain or loss. I care none about my Mercy or Soldier ratings, and I hate being carried out of my real skill level of the only hero I do care about and play competitive for.
So excuse me for not swapping into an enemy counter pick, a meta pick, or my previous main (Zen) whom I could be even better as for some easy SR or purple coins.
Iâve been around in competitive for 10 seasons, Iâve got my golden guns, and now I will stand a solid high-plat and improving Orisa than a master patch-adaptive mix-breed meta slave whom Iâve already once been.
Thereâs nothing wrong with asking though, which I know you arenât saying, but the other day someone began insulting me because I asked âPlease someone switch to a tank or a second healerâ while I was the only healer. So while itâs true that people need to stop making excuses, we also need to remember that itâs ok to ask, especially if youâre asking politely, which the people you had in mind clearly didnât.
Typing in caps doesnât make you right, it just means you know where the capslocks button is.
We will agree to disagree. Or not. But in-game when someone is playing widow, not getting any picks and not switching Iâll just report and let the system decide. If enough people do it, maybe there will be a result. Sound fair? That was a rhetorical question.
Everyone should be flex. I donât want to tank or heal for triple dps. Itâs not fun. And Iâve stopped caring about SR some time ago. I will go 4th dps and laugh as I tank your sr. If I do go tank or support and have to suffer through that nightmare of a game, Iâll make sure to report you.
Alright.
This right here seems off.
makes me think you can actually play other roles to help since I doubt you have 6 accounts just to play the same thing. Someone like you using the not effective on something else, no hours excuse doesnât fit.
you will be false reporting, which is breaking the rules, which in turn makes you eligible for a ban from the game
Problem is, you cannot know that with 100% certain. Because the match doesnât give you objective data. 5 people can yell at one person. That person gets switched to the enemy. They win. Was your team right? If that one person was the cause of the team to lose. Why did his team win. That player should always be a detriment to any team he is on.
If you do not flex, youâre playing the wrong game. Seriously. If you one-trick, youâre playing the wrong game.
since any player can choose any available character, perfectly legit, how is this the case?
I get that it is optimal to know how to play multiple characters, but how exactly is it âthe wrong gameâ when it is perfectly legal/legit to do so?
Why? If I pick last, what does that change, you can always switch if you want. It is not as though the composition is set in stone.
lol why? because forcing people to switch because you are a one trick that picked last is incredibly inconsiderate. There are plenty of people that will pick around others (myself included) but we hate it when we have to switch because the last person picking refuses to fill.

Youâre arguing whether youâre allowed. You are.
I am arguing whether you should. You should not.
Theyâre orthogonal points. I donât think people should be banned for their character choices; however, people who refuse to switch or flex or counter their opponentsâ choices are choosing to ruin the fun of their 5 teammates, and thatâs selfish behavior, poor sportsmanship, and out of line with the design of the game.
I donât think people should be banned for their character choices
good to hear
; however, people who refuse to switch or flex or counter their opponentsâ choices are choosing to ruin the fun of their 5 teammates
no, they are choosing to play the character they want to play
there is no fun ruination conspiracy at work here
Lets say you (or even all 5 of you) say your fun will be ruined unless I play Reinhardt
My first response is: if you want a reinhardt on your team, you pick him
My second response is: I dont have any fun playing Reinhardt. I am not here to provide you YOUR fun, nor am I required to do so - I am here to provide me with MY fun.

This is a straw man (http s://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man) argument.
Thereâs a big difference between âYou must play Reinhardtâ and âyou insist on playing DPS but the character youâve chosen is being hard-countered by their teamâ.
Every player should have a DPS that they can play, a tank that they can play, and a support that they can play. It doesnât have to be their first pick, but itâs critical if you actually want to win.
I donât play Winston. At all. Ever. I donât play Mercy either. But I will play all the other tanks, and all the other healers, and 3 or 4 of the DPS as needed. I always go for a tank first, but if I get two tank mains on my team, Iâll swap to help us win unless the healers want to run GOATS.
This is a straw man (http s://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man) argument.
Not at all.
You are claiming another player ruins your fun by playing the âwrongâ character
I am saying that the player in question has a right to their fun same as you do. Your rights to have fun dont extend to controlling what any other player does for their own fun
Similarly, if you are in the school cafeteria with me and you are only happy if you get to eat not only your own lunch but mine as well, you have extended yourself beyond your rights
Thereâs a big difference between âYou must play Reinhardtâ and âyou insist on playing DPS but the character youâve chosen is being hard-countered by their teamâ.
Youâre not getting that the hard counter is 1) your opinion and 2) irrelevant. If I want to play character x, and you want me to play any character other than x, I am fully within my rights to play character x.
Every player should have a DPS that they can play, a tank that they can play, and a support that they can play. It doesnât have to be their first pick, but itâs critical if you actually want to win.
and yet, there is no requirement that any player do so
optimal - yes
required- no
Okay, but do you really believe that if I picked last fully aware of that fact, that I care at all?
You are claiming another player ruins your fun by playing the âwrongâ character
Not at all. What I am saying is that if you are playing Junkrat and theyâre doing Pharmercy, Widow, and Hanzo, you arenât helping your team to win. This has nothing to do with anything but you. You can choose to continue down this path, but suggesting that isnât selfish is a falsehood.
Youâre not getting that the hard counter is 1) your opinion and 2) irrelevant. If I want to play character x, and you want me to play any character other than x, I am fully within my rights to play character x.
No, getting hard countered is not an opinion. Itâs a fact. You have zero kills and 20 deaths. Are you being effective? Empirically no. You can argue that you can do whatever you want, which is what I said in the beginning.
and yet, there is no requirement that any player do so
You can, but youâre not a good teammate if you do so. Maybe you donât care. Thatâs your choice.
To clarify: I flex
All I am saying is that there is no requirement in the game to do so
Also the example of playing Junkrat when there is a Pharah? There are 5 other characters that the Junkrat is playing against. The existence of a Pharah does not mean he is having no effect on the 5 others
Youâre forgetting people 3500+ are less effective on a role they have little to no hours on. At that point itâs based on pure game-sense. Swapping in bronze-silver-gold-plat-diamond like this works because honestly nobody has a clue at what theyâre really doing. Sorry not sorry.
Thatâs right. I could get away with maintanking in plat (and have) but if Iâm going to try that in masters Iâll get creamed.
Better to not have one than to have one whoâs going to do terrible.
Last time I checked this is a team based game. In those kind of games cooperation is required. Refusing to do so is throwing.
