this is somehow recent news
except is been happening for a long long long time
Everytime someone mentions qp matchmaking and the different ranks i just feel bad for them. Not only do they not have friends to play with the concept is so foreign its not even a thought as to why you see a gm and bronze in the same game.
I was going to respond that most of the players you face are probably the same ones you were just stomped by. Hell, there was one day that I faced the same guy 6 matches in a row in FFA.
There was a game called Gigantic that I played a lot, and I was there for it dying. It had the exact issue OP is describing. Either you have super slow queues or super bad matches (eventually it got to the point where it was both, but that was further down the spiral). Every change they made in favor of one, came at a cost to the other.
It’s almost like lying about something, using that lie to justify predatory changes, and then announcing it was not only a lie but a planned lie BEFORE the changes will rub your playerbase wrong.
Like I’ve said in other threads, the worse matchmaking and the larger disparity in queue times per class is a direct result of people leaving. Blizzard’s own financial report confirmed players are leaving.
Blizzard caught lightning in a bottle with the original release of OW, and not only did they fumble, said bottled lightning is careening off of a waterfall. Let’s hope it hits and sinks Bobby’s yacht.
Um, the match making is arguably WAY better than it was when the game was first released. You know, when they had 35 million accounts log in the first month?
I’ll never understand why people see that as proof that the population is low.
It’s like, that guy has a similar MMR to yours, and you are both queuing up at the exact same time. Why would you expect NOT to see him?
I would, if balance would be better
I also never play rq
Don’t have the audacity to speak for others
Because it’s FFA for one and with the way that guy plays, I would be more surprised if he’s not in Masters or higher, I always placed Plat in OW1, and I’ve been told several different reasons for this, not playing for years essentially giving me a soft reset while others said everyone got demoted 2 ranks, I placed Silver. I don’t care enough about rank to do more than placements. So, if he is in my MM parameters, the highest he should be is Plat, which I don’t need to look at his profile to know that can’t be the case.
So, open queue not having as strong of a RBMM system combined with the massive skill difference, either there were very few people playing FFA, or I had terrible luck because he would’ve dominated if he wasn’t targeting me specifically for 4 of those matches. I’m not joking, he was trolling, but he was chill on the last 2.
Blizz doesn’t announce. They just take them down. I’ve heard 3-4 have gone down so far. I know East Coast US was dropped at the beginning of season 4. I’ve heard three other servers across the globe also dropped.
First, I 100000% agree with this post and glad to see it posted.
I’ll add, that ironically, imo, a big part of the reason the game is dying is literally because of the changes mentioned in this post. They started mixing eloes in matching starting S3, which is when the queue times drastically reduced, but that one change caused the majority of matches to be absolute stomps.
For me, QP or Comp, 2 of 3 matches are demoralizing stomps. It was never this way S2 and before, including the entire time I played OW1, which was the last 2 years of OW1. There were stomps, yes, but not 2 of 3 matches.
Who the hell wants to play a game where you have to play 3 matches before it’s the slightest bit fun?
And it’s worse in the lowest ranks.
Brand new players that start accounts and have never played OW before have to win 50 QP matches before they can play comp. Those poor players can very easily go 5 straight matches without ever making it out of spawn.
Blizzard treats lower ranked players and new players like absolute (insert the most vial word you can think of here).
OP is totally right. I’m a platinum player and it’s the average rank in OW2 and you would believe you would only have platinum players in the game at the most populated rank but that’s not the case. I have gold, platinum and diamond players in the same game. Some days it’s better but this season it has overall been more consistently gold and and diamond players in the same game.
It was in my experience as a EU player much better previous seasons. The previous seasons had the problem the first week or two because of the rank decay issue but the rest of the season the matchmaker was much better than it’s now. I’ve experienced worse matchmaking this season (and the end of last season I believe) since around when the PVE news broke out.
Funny thing is the games aren’t that quick if you consider just how wide the MMR is.
If the balance is better (and it is), I clearly prefer waiting more (in order to have a fair game) than playing a stomp game.
So basically, my answer is yes.
well as a canary in OCE get 20min ques in comp at B5, qp is only a minute, but its a stomp fest more often than not.
I have been noticing it alot with dps the last few weeks. There seems to be bronze dps getting matched against diamond/master constantly right now. They don’t stand the slightest chance against their opponents and it is just sad to see. Now it is roll or get rolled where one team has 2/15 and the other 25/1 in k/d. I see the same with tank too but not to the extent as it has been with dps.
For me, the healers seem to be fairly at the same level since we end up on the same numbers most of the time. But for the other roles it is a worldwide difference.
Balance was not better by any measurable degree in OW1 that it’s worth waiting 5+ minutes for games again.
Well, in Overwatch 1, I didn’t experienced massive stompings or playing against Masters (bad matchmaking), unlike Overwatch 2
So it’s imo sufficient for waiting 5+ minutes
You didn’t? I did. You win some, you lose some. Sometimes they’re stomps, sometimes they’re close, there’s no way to make it perfect, but that’s pretty much every game in existence. I also play DotA and used to play League, and it was the same thing, some games are stomps, some are close, can’t win them all.
Considering I experienced the same thing in OW1 I’d rather not wait several extra minutes for no reason, especially since I prefer the 5v5 gameplay more
Open queue was the format where people could play pretty much whatever they want and reliably climb if they were good. Lack of hero balance was really the only thing holding the game back. Modern open queue, however, is a pathetic shell of it’s former self and can barely be considered the same mode as 2016-2018 OW. My old post sums it up nicely and I didn’t even list everything.
