Nintendo Switch 2 announced - upgrades for OW2?!

Thanks, although I rarely play on it. But the new switch appears way too bigger for me. I would rather play on pc due it’s size.

Bruh, If you think the Switch was struggling then you need to get out of the forums more often.

I enjoy nintendo games, although they usually are too costly. Tbh I preffer my wiiu over my switch. The wiiu gamepad elevates several experiences and the wiiu compatibility with 3ds/2ds makes certain experiences pretty unique. Although few things actually explored those capabilities.

While I played several consoles, what made me most fond of was wiiu. Because of how much stuff I could retroactively access and do on it.

switch? no…hell im a switch owner and love that thing…people playing OW on switch though? different story

Okay now that makes more sense, They really didn’t optimize that game for the Switch meanwhile Splatoon is just cruising around.
No excuse now on the Switch 2!

So we know it has 120 Hz and HDR now if the screen also has VRR that would be absolutely insane!

Nobody saw this coming because Nintendo usually isn’t super tech enthusiastic but it really looks like they’ve embraced newer display technologies!

And the dock gets its own fan to improve performance?!

And a mouse mode?!

And open world Mario kart?!

Absolutely genius!

This is literally my dream Switch upgrade!

Only thing we still don’t know is the price but I’d imagine around $400!

Only negative I could see from the whole presentation is that the new kickstand looks a bit more flimsy than what you get with the switch OLED but I bet they’ll release a new model in a year or two with an upgraded stand to sell it to you with OLED screen!

If they give us a 5" switch lite + OLED + 120Hz that would be an insta-buy for me!

I think the console would run too hot for their own liking without it. They usually overdimension their cooling systems, I think switch had some caveats on this regard.

With a bit more grunt and the, possible upscaler, rear would be a bit hotter.

Due tariffs I think U.S. would be around 450-500 range tbh. Due being 3 devices with battery.

I was expecting hdr, the 120hz was not expected due would require some specific config for it. Most games are tied to specific metrics, which some use fps for it. That would require a specific version for switch.

I wouldn’t have high hopes that most of the games would support 120hz, tho. Most likely the majority would aim for 60 and maybe frame gen for 120.

$450 console cost and $80-90 physical games? :skull:

bruh the “Welcome Tour”, akin to Astro’s Playroom for PS5, basically a tech demo teaching you about your console, is paid and not included with the system

Eh it’s around the same as ds to 3ds. I think they’re limited now thay people will expect portability

Whoa! I hit the mark without knowing :scream:

$450 bit on the steep side but you know what I’ll take it they’ve clearly aimed this one at the more premium market probably because they know they’re in direct competition with steam deck and Windows handhelds (as well as PC emulation in general allowing higher frame rates etc)!

I imagine the old switch OLED is going to continue to be sold for awhile anyway so they’ll have that as their more budget option!

It’s £395 here in the UK so not too bad I suppose?!

google tells me

395 Pound sterling equals

512.18 United States Dollar

Also we don’t pay tax added on top of the price in the UK so there’s that!

I think tariffs played a big role, but also because they usually sell consoles without losing money.

I wouldn’t say direct competition to steamdeck or windows handhelds. But the pricing isn’t exactly competitive. They compete within themselves most of the time.

I think their NX idea was around multiple switch devices. So, I expect the ecosystem behave similar to 2ds/3ds systems, although having the new 3ds tag in some titles. Which in this case would be switch 2 editions. Based on your post about the direct.

well that’s 6.33% more than the $450 US cost, so there’s your 6% sales tax lol

My thinking is they definitely see a market for playing their current generation of games at higher fidelity since they must have looked at the whole emulation scene and how it was growing in popularity thought to themselves what if we could profit off of this?!

Would go some way to explaining why they went to such lengths to file lawsuits against emulation programs heh!

And they’re probably going to rake in absolute boat loads of money just from people buying breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom upgrades for the switch 2!

Heck!

I know I never wanted to play breath of the wild because of the really low frame rate and low graphics but now I could see myself actually enjoying it!

no tarrifs did not play a role in the cost

Yeah, the leaked changes to OW1 and OW2 default skins laed to people to believer the “2” is might be dropped. Unrionically, the biggest upgrade to the game.

Usually they don’t care.

Nah, this is just their IP protection and how Japan handles “fair use” which in there doesn’t exactly exist the concept.

Nintendo survives by it’s IP, their merchandise is too valuable to lose control of it.

If you think that, imagine pokemon. Which is by far their biggest IP revenue. Pokemon, simply, prints money just by being mentioned.

Well, the experience, at least on wiiu, were fine. A few moments actually were annoying the drops, but weren’t that common.

The major improvement I would argue that would be load times.

I’m almost sure that would. Considering the device materials being from china and being 3 devices in the same package.
