New Symmetera is a Massive Nerf

I understand your feelings, but in order for her kit to become more powerful, they would have had to nerf the primary fire.

Auto lock is such a powerful ability in an fps. It can’t remain and have powerful utility.

Plus this does make her more viable at the highest level of play. Where good syms need to have decent aim but also good map and builder experience. Which is a first for overwatch. High skill ceiling builder.

Also she can still be effective even without good aim.

Actually I mean her Photon Barrier that she could use to outplay Soldier/McCree/Junkrat/Hanzo/Widowmaker and dafely initiate combat on them.

But also yes, her reliable damage at close range that ignores crap like mobility or jump/strafe is also a good reason why Lucio mains hate her.

No it isn’t.

You get to set the Entrance and Exit positions. Old Teleporter was only possible via spawn room.

Plus, the way Geoff teased it, you could teleport Torb Turrets.

It’s not a loss, it’s a fair trade.

Maybe I am unique in my line of thought on this. But to me, a “Nerf” is taking an existing ability and making it of less value by reducing it’s damage, range, or cooldown.

A “buff” is taking an ability and making it more effective by increasing it’s damage, range, cooldown, or adding a secondary effect like a damage over time trait.

What Symmetra is going through would be a “change” or “rework.” Not a buff or a nerf. But a complete rework of how an ability is utilized at it’s core. So, in this case, Symmetra’s main weapon doesn’t have short range and locks on. Now, it’s a straight out beam with a longer range.

Yeah thats why it had scaling damage, low range and she was inmobile and squishy.

Now they are removing the lock on and losing her good match-ups but she keeps all those weaknesses.

She is probably only going to be effective on high tiers where people actually talk. But anything below diamond is going to be hell. Didnt they rework SOmbra because she was TOO reliant on her team to work at all outside extremely organized teams.

Also stop with the aim elitism its getting old.

Source. Would love to see your source on where they have confirmed its range. If you have none then you are just PRAYING that you are right.

Guess we are going to completely disregard the increased slow effect and increased health that her turrets are going to have right? That it will slow targets more making them easier to hit, that it will distract targets for longer due to increased health, and that you have a the ability to farm charge to melt them in just under a second.

Also sym will be with her team and not in the wide open sky. big difference. Your point? It is still a MASSIVE increase in effective range no matter how you slice it.

Because teleporter has been a HUGE boon when it is destroyed after the enemy takes the objective right? Having an on demand ability that can be used to relocate your team based on CURRENT intel instead of hoping to god they do not find your previous deploy is much better. Getting somewhere that is currently relevant is much better then getting deployed some where that is no longer relevant.

It’s a lateral shift, the difference in auto lock-on was more than accommodated for.

Her kit now scales with a much higher skill ceiling and reward potential that it can absolutely be viewed as a buff.

So Sym is now reliant on her team to make her new gimmicky TP worthwhile.

Sombra’s rework really did teach no one nothing about reducing entire abilities to how your team can use them

Leave it to the Widow main to be a complete aim elitist lmao

The Sombra rework was to make her less ult reliant. While she is unfinished it accomplished what it needed to.

The purpose of the sym rework is to make her less ult and team dependent. She doesn’t need her team to flank.
She can follow with her own turrets now.
Has decent ranged damage and rewards mechanical skill with the cherry on top.

The auto lock had to go.
But if it does take that long to charge the beam now, it will probably be a similar width as meis beam.

You only get ticks when it on the target for that 50%.
If you do not get the full 4 ticks for 50% of that time in 1s.

You get half the ticks in this case 2 ticks for that time it has spent on the target.
So it would take you 2 seconds to do 65 damage if your aimer is on the target half the time.

Why do plain English? Why not Plain Math?

Old Symmetera
1s = 30 damage ( 30 )
2s = 90 damage ( + 60 )
3s = 210 damage ( + 120 )
4s = 330 damage ( + 120 )
5s = 450 damage ( + 120 )

New Symmetera Misses 50%
1s = 32,5 ( 2 ticks )
2s = 65 ( 4 ticks )
3s = 97.5 ( 6 ticks )
4s = 130 ( 8 ticks )
5s = 197.5 ( 10 ticks )
6s = 265 ( 12 ticks )
7s = 332.5 ( 14 ticks )
8s = 400 ( 16 ticks )

See the thing is to reach Tier 2 with old Symmetera, you need to add damage from Tier 1. You don’t go directly to tier 2.

Yup definitely does more damage if she misses half her shots.

Where is the source on your claim that its going to do anything then? ‘‘Longer beam’’ can mean 1m longer, not 12m longer.

Her turrets still die to a slightly stronger breeze, have deploy time and are only 3 now.

The range is same that current so no, there isnt a point if they cant really pierce shields now anyways. They have always been impractical outside choke points where now they are effectively worse since they pop on barriers.

Then protect the TP? Like its not my fault that you cant defend the TP or that your team cant do anything if the enemy entire team dives your TP location.

You’re joking, right? Her teleporter was always gimmicky, and reliant on her team in order to be worthwhile.

You lose the teleport across the map, but you gain timed cooldowns allowing for constant usage of teleporters.

Choosing the entrance and exit means you now have the ability to coordinate your teammates while they’re AROUND the point. They’re no longer limited by spawnroom waiting, they can be by the point, and still get usage out of it.

  • You increase literally EVERYONE’S mobility, in a game that’s all about mobility.

  • You can set up Bastion on the first choke, throw down a teleporter when the enemy pushes up, and then setup on a second choke everyone rush through it when it’s too risky to stay. No more feeding ultimate charge to the enemy you now have an easy fallback plan.

  • You can always get the high ground, even after you sacrificed it earlier.

  • You can always teleport someone to perfect safety on top of a health pack.

  • You can get teammates to and fro without them having to expend their movement abilities.

Oh, did I mention you can teleport Torb turrets? Cause you can do that now…

Already, this is a huge boost for Defense heroes. She’s literally a TF2 Engineer now, who has always been considered a valuable asset to the team. That utility alone gives her more team synergy than just being a backup/discount Team Rez.

In a situation that exactly mirrors Mercy’s Mass Rez > Single Rez rework, you can now teleport more than double the number of teammates. If you truly believe this is a nerf, then this isn’t a matter of aim elitism or balance. You’re just defeatist, pessimistic, and resistant to change.

There is no point to flank now if you are still the same inmobile squishy but now with less reliable damage lmao. Chances are if you miss 1s of tracking you cant even trade kills with their healer.

Not every single hero needs to reward mechanical skills thats why this game was attractive in the first place, because it wasnt the same elitist garbage that every other FPS like CoD or CC. Sym always rewarded map awareness, decision taking and predicting the enemy way more that, say, Tracer or heroes with mobility. And even there, its incredibly hypocrital that you say ‘‘but now she will take REAL SKILZZ’’ while they are removing Photon Barrier which allows her, with good enough timing aka mechanical skill, to block ults and win duels lol

Explain why then. And not with regurgited aim elitism garbage.

I already said that your aim elitist opinion on Sym is worthless. Your entire wall of text is so reachy in nature that I cant believe anyone could take it seriously.

Go to congratulate yourself on your aiming skills while looking at Windowmarker’s butt, or whatever Windows mains do those days.

You forgot the part where her damage orb charges twice as fast and its projectile speed has been tripled. And it EXPLODES when it hits enemies or terrain.

Or the fact that her beam generates ammo when used on shields, while also powering up.

Or the fact that she can fire turrets like Pharah rockets, and do other things while they get to their destination and activate.

Or the the fact that her teleporter has a time limit, but NOT a limit to how many players/other things it can teleport while it’s up. And that you can use it to get non-mobile heroes to high ground quickly (hello, Ana and Bastion), or sneak your entire darn team through a heavily-spammed choke.

Less reliable damage?
The beam is 2x the old damage so even a swipe will hurt.
Then she has quick deploy turrets that can be used mid fight and also do more damage.
Let’s not forget she now has an aoe splash attack.

Just because she can’t auto lock doesn’t mean she is trash.

So I get the love for auto lock, but the appeal of sym to me, always seemed more like map manipulation rather than anti flank.

Alright I will explain auto lock.
While I don’t like that disabled players lose a valuable pick, auto lock has insane potential.
In an fps, auto lock is always quite strong, even at short range. And syms was quite forgiving. I have accidently killed many people with that thing. It’s probably why the rest of her kit was so weak.
So in order to make her other abilities (such as turrets) stronger, she needed to lose the ability to snap onto an enemies butt.

Think of it like this. Imagine if Mercy also had Moira’s orb and Lucio’s ult.
She would be so strong in every area of her kit that she would be mandatory. So there has to be something weaker there without making others obsolete.

Does that satisfy?

Its LoS dependant you cant sneak people around a choke point.

Its just a shadow step.

Who cares? Its still not going to solver her bad match-ups, and she cant really kill Lucio or Genji anymore. Its worse vs mobile heroes and better against inmobile ones thats literally the least thing this game needs on this moment.

you can let brigitte deal with genjis now and actually be useful
