So I’m new to competitive Overwatch (pretty late I know). I did my placement matches for tank and placed plat then dropped to gold. Then I did my placement for support and placed high gold then kept playing and dropped to silver (After about 30 games for each). I was upset about this at first because I felt ashamed to be in silver lol. But then I realized that I shouldn’t feel entitled to being plat or gold especially with less than 100 total hours played in Overwatch lol. I think I placed plat and gold because of my general high skill in FPS games but couldn’t manage to stay in those ranks as I have no true situational or game sense in Overwatch. Idk just my theory.
So I’m here for some advice. What does it mean for someone to “tilt”, “peel”, or “feed”. Also, what other general beginner tips could you give me for competitive Overwatch?
Feed is say I was a troll and was being a pain in game saying you suck or your bad but don’t feed the troll they only want to see your bad side.
Peel not exactly sure on this one.
But don’t be sad or mad at falling in rank I’ve lost so much SR this season but still play and believe it or not I started off as a silver player then went to gold and then left and came back months later only to place silver again it happens.
When I played Overwatch, I had in the ballpark of 1700 hours played. I, one single time, hit the bare minimum of Plat. Apart from that, I’ve been high silver/low gold, since launch.
Don’t feel ashamed of your rank. It’s what it is. There’s many an issue that is 100% out of your hands, that keeps you mired in low ranks, regardless of improvement to just get to the next rank.
Don’t take Overwatch Competitive mode seriously.
Besides, Tim the Tat Man (some streamer I think?) started Overwatch very recently, and waltzed right into GM after a week or two. All is well. No issue there.
I do believe that it means that someone helps to kill the guy who is attacking our beloved healers … i.e. to “peel” the flanker / attacker off say, our Mercy player =)
Btw, Gazzor, one of the more positive forumers in this sub-forum had created this great thread and disregard the “Bronze tier” bit as it does not apply to you but the tips, strategies etc are probably very useful.
Pretty sure “peel” is when you’re a healer and an enemy is attacking you and one of your teammates “gets them off you.”
To my knowledge it doesn’t necessarily mean kill the attacker, it can also just get them away, allowing the healer to escape. So, if Zarya is nuking Mercy and Mercy escapes because Mercy-friendly Lucio Booped Zarya into the distance, but Zarya survived the boop.
I was quite surprised initially when i heard the term being used in the game because it is actually a term used in war (we have National Conscription in my country).
csgo, league are the only two I consider good competitive games. Though csgo = cheaters and league is boring for me personally. But this game has had so many cheaters in the past two months that honestly csgo has less if you have good trust factor / queue faceit / esea.
When you “peel” for someone you help them out with whoever is attacking them. It doesnr have to be a healer. For example you can peel for bastion by watching out for the flanking tracer or whoever is tryinf to get close. When you peel for them they can pretty much ignore the threat
I sincerely respect new players as they add new blood to the game and keep things less jaded. However, one tip I might offer is not tell people you are new (in game). The community is so toxic they will flame you in disbelief, saying you are a liar/troll, asking what your main rank is, and report you for throwing when you perform poorly.
That is the hard reality, I am afraid very little is done to manage new player expectations. Its basically thick skin, sink or swim in a game thats been out 3+ years.
