Never forget overwatch 2 is a failure

When you think the game is on a decent state never forget Overwatch 2 was going to be the sequel of overwatch, the redifinition of a sequel, not just an update (or downgrade) it was going to be the same game with a lot more, not the same game with less features and less players per team, they promised a pve story mode experience with replayability and a lot of progression, nothing of it happened, so by definition is a failure, this is not an opinion, is on the dictionary

2024 has been a terrible year for ow2 (and 2023 and 2022) barelly has content, they killed the lore and the story, the last new events had nothing new, recycled assets from pve with regular ow modes, the new mode is made with 2cp assets. quality of cosmetics has droping a lot, the highlight of the seasons used to be the season itself, the topic, the battle pass, the paywalled hero, the mythic skin but now are the collab skins, they completely neglected the seasons in favor of that, mythic skins are just legendary skins sold by parts, 0 customization, you have to complete the skin. battle pass is very pointless

The game is on a strange limbo, obviously isnt death, but is a succes getting more and more players? well no, playerbase is not grwoing, actually has been dropping in the last months, and only using steam as metric, anything else is not trustworthy, they will never suprass the 75k players peak from people who log in the launch day on steam just to give a negative review, how long can survive stealing assets from other modes to keep relasing content? they had to fire a lot of people because there are not resources or what? neither blizzard or microsoft think is worth to invest on this game, maybe is making profit, but i dont think good enough, enought to survive

Anyway this bring us to 6vs6, after two years of ignoring the topic and pretending 5vs5 is perfect and loved they had to literally come back to ow1 to generate some hype again, even having to do a test of a potential ow2 6vs6, is the definitve proof ow2 failed, in case the lack of pve, bad reviews, cancelation of blizzcon, no more roadmaps and the lost of the credibility from the players wasnt enough

What will 6v6 look like? Clearly not the old 2-2-2 role queue, right?

To be fair they did manage to redefine a sequel into a lazy cashgrab that was just a glorified update. They never said it would be a positive redefinition.

the test? yes will be role 2-2-2, is how ow should be played because one tank is a failure, but they will still implement the stupid changes from ow2 so the test is doomed, passives and bigger hitboxes

when they mention ow2 never use the word sequel, pay attention

Do we think enough has changed since the end of OW1 that we have tons more people playing tank now?

I searched “queue times” for results prior to OW2’s launch

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/search?q=queue%20times%20before%3A2022-08-11

I dunno if I can agree with the OP… we are all still playing, right?

If OW2 were a failure, then I would have uninstalled it years ago.

people want to play tank, dont want to play bad tank, in open queue there is always two tanks, in the last hacked qp people always picked two tanks, people dont want to solo tank, is not fun

People didn’t want to play tank when we had 6v6

Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it. Blizz has internal data showing how many people play each role, it would be interesting to see it (surely they’ve spoken on it recently?)

That was Bobby Kotick’s directive to cancel PVE so that he could divert the money saved into his golden parachute. No one else is more directly responsible for OW2’s present state than this clown. This is also why Jeff Kaplan chose to move on instead of trying to salvage OW.

because the double shield, the biggest problem of 6vs6, was not fun picking orisa and stay still the whole match, the rework for ow2 makes me think was made with 6vs6 in mind, of course the role needed changes, ow1 still need a lot of work, but not even the worst 6vs6 problem can compare to how bad 5vs5 is, making raid bosses isnt fun either, shoting them is not that different from shooting shields, and if the tank dies is game over

i dont came here to blame anyone in particular, as far as i know everyones at blizzard failed and everyone is guilty, jeff was too ambitious, aaron is doing nothing, bobby was bobby, microsoft just doesnt care, they wanted call of duty and saddly ow was part of the package, whoever fault is game is a failure and will never ever deliver anything

Have you ever tried saying “no” to a CEO while expecting to keep your job? Yeah that was what Blizz employees faced under Bobby’s dictatorship. So saying that everyone at Blizz failed is a misguided take.

PVE was the biggest mistake, OW2 pvp was fun on release, needed more heroes/ maps. Can’t blame that tho when they were working on useless PVE that was never going to work

pve failure is boobys fault, only his fault? doubt, however, the game is full of problems we cant blame bobby forever, specially when he left and in one year nothing got better, clearly he wasnt the only problem, 5vs5 was bobbys fault? anti consumer practices like locking golden guns? not being able to chose what mode we want to not play? bad new modes? is bobbys fault?

junkenstein lab show us was going to work, loved by everyone, even aaron said was played a lot, and acts like was a new idea and not something promised long ago

OW was originally going to be an MMO and was reworked into a hero based PVP shooter afterwards. PVE was always in the background until Bobby canceled it.

Yes it was, because Bobby was the one who orchestrated OW’s move to FTP and lock everything behind paywalls and maximize monetization. This is not something that can be undone overnight, even with Microsoft now owing the IP. Just because Bobby went away, that does not mean his damage goes with him.

Labs is complete garbage, if you think triple Moira orbs is fun idk what to tell you.

That’s like saying total mayhem is fun in Destiny. If you’re a boomer with no mechanics maybe

You know what would be cool though, if they actually took time to make new ultimate’s for heroes who need them. Give Cassidy a new ultimate.

delete damage boost for damage projectiles which they already did, now bring it to live

yes it can be done quickly, lower the prices, give more free coins, stop selling things only on bundles, stop gatekeeping skins, make every skin avalible without fomo, all of that can be changed in one day, is changing nothing of how the game works or making new content, the awfull monetization could be changed the same day bobby left, however, like i said i dont come here to see whos fault is, at this point is irrelevant, overwatch 2 is a failure and is not an opinion

is not fun on pvp, thats why we wanted and were excited for pve with talent trees

total mayhem sucks in ow2 because we have giga buffed tanks

well i agree with that, one of the awfull changes ow2 had is how the ultimates are awfull, juno ult does nothing, doomfist ult is just a mean to escape combat and leave your team to die, mcree is a reload button and pharah ult is a sauicide button, a good pharah player dont even use the ult

they did? still the game have the stupid stupid passives and bigger hitboxes

This was the coolest thing from the skill tree, new abilities

That’s only true if money, profits, and long term sustainability do not matter. Alas, these variables do matter. One cannot simply wave a wand and drop these proposed changes into place without accidentally going bankrupt. I.E., look before you leap. OW1 used to have a $40+ USD asking price before going free-to-play. Where will the maintenance budget come from if the proposed changes end up being insufficient to keep the servers and DEV team going?

so overwatch 2 is not making good profit? if they lower the prices more people would be eager to buy them, however, even if prices stay the same why they dont implement everything else i said?
