NA player being matched in SA servers

Hi,

Fort Collins CO player being matched constantly with South American servers, primarily Chile from what I can understand, and was trying to see if there was something I have to do to prevent this from happening. Also curious if there is something wrong with the servers currently and if I should just avoid playing until it’s worked out.

No disrespect to Spanish speakers I just can’t understand the orders being barked at me and it’s causing friction in comp lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Replying before Blizzard does, but there’s another thread on this right now:

I’m in Alaska and the same thing has happened to me. 260 RTT is literally unplayable. I’m still waiting to hear something back from them.

Yea I saw that thread, it seemed more focused on the lag spike issue and high ping rather than the server mismatch so I thought it might be good to make a thread of my own. I’ll probably check back on that thread to see if there’s anything of use I can glean.

Lol, I drive by FoCo everyday to my real job. However, for the case of troubleshooting your internet, I recommend try to map a WinMTR to the Chicago Servers and see if your local provider (whether it be CenturyLink or Comcast) is having routing issues. I play off CenturyLink and at the moment I have no problems from Cheyenne.

WinMTR instructions:

  1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
  2. Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
  3. Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
  4. Run the WinMTR.exe
  5. Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.
    Network Graph
note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
  6. Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
  7. Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
  8. Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between: ~~~~ Paste WinMTR Test Results Here ~~~~

If in the event you can’t even connect to Overwatch and get into any game mode at all, please use one of the following IP addresses based on your geographical region:

  • US West - 24.105.30.129
  • US Central - 24.105.62.129

this really sucks, i really wanna grind some games but 200 ping is unplayable

The high ping is likely the result of the server mismatch, so definitely add yours to the post the blues have been recommending: Placed on the incorrect server - US high latency Feb/7/2019 - #20 by Drakuloth
