I get that, but it’d do wonders just for him to say that the dev team is at least reading and collecting feedback. It’s worse to just outright ignore the other threads. And you don’t see Geoff posting on nonsense, because he posts maybe once a month.
They already said, a long time ago, that they listen to the feedback, and they keep proving it.
And Geoff only replies to threads that are about important things, like reworks.
He can’t go around every thread, every day to say “oh no, we don’t plan to change that hero”, or “yes, that hero will get a slight change in a month”.
And attacking mr Powers is just… wrong.
He’s doing god’s work here, by managing the community, and that’s what he gets.
Seriously unfair.
This is just an assumption, but I feel like blizzard is afraid to comment on mercy posts because of the potential backlash if it’s not what they want to hear. Not saying it’s a good way to go about things but I could see why.
The Mercy megathread starts off with that quote, and no dev has actually commented in the megathread in such a long time (the last time being July 10th for Tom and May 3rd for Jeff), it comes off as empty and insincere. I’m definitely not endorsing that behavior, but I can see why people would get angry and mock the statement.
No one can feasibly reply to every single thread, but taking a few minutes, even seconds, to say “We’re looking to changing (X hero),” would do much to help break the major lack of communication.
I’m guessing that the only thing that they have to say about Mercy is “We feel she’s in a good spot right now”.
Pretty much everyone that’s not a Mercy main (and some Mercy mains too) agrees with that statement, but it would cause even more spam and attacks on devs than there are now.
To be honest, if I were in their position, commenting on Mercy would feel like splitting the atom. Your wording would have to be absolutely perfect and even then you leave it open to all kinds of backlash.
It’s best that door doesn’t even get opened, and you just walk on by it. People will say “it’d be great if they just said they had read this” but the reality is that’d then have videos made about it, it’d be raged on, spawn numerous topics flooding the forum for a good 3 days, etc, etc. “WELL THEY SAY THEY READ IT THEN WHY ARENT THEY DOING ANYTHING!?!?” etc.
There is no win. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Almost everything get mocked and twisted in some way, shape or form, but you can’t just stop communicating with players because a few go out of their way to mock your statement. But it would get quite discouraging to deal with it on a daily basis as Tom has, so I do commend him on staying active on the forums.
Now I’m not sure about that. Even before her video after Tom’s post everyone was toxic and for a while. Aria’s video about his post didnt come put till near the end and by then everyone was toxic.
So let’s not blame someone when the forums did it themselves. By the time her video was made the entire thread was toxic and on the verge of closing
I haven’t managed to fully watch one of her videos from start to finish. That said, I have to ask, has she changed up her presentation? Because if not, she is not one to be defended, she is not one to be considered civil or constructive when it comes to the discussion.
She’s just appealing to her base and farming views afaik. Feel free to correct me.
If they aren’t thinking of any major changes, then they could say it. In fact, Jeff has done so before, as seen here:
I think most of the frustration on the forums comes from the lack of communication between the devs and the player base, and even something as simple as this would help.
Not… Really? While she toned down the blatant vitriol and insults, it’s gone to more of a passive-aggressive, subtle thing. Though I didn’t watch the really long video.
But… What you quoted did literally nothing as far as helping the situation. Infact, it was just turned into fuel for the fire, and cited in these “THEN WHY NERF HER?!” threads etc.
It didn’t help. Neither did his “I want to put to rest the idea of a revert” post. Both did NOTHING as far as changing the discussion.
OP, you should never be ashamed of being a nice person. It’s true that Overwatch is not a flawless game, but people like you are a breath of fresh air from the usual hatred and vitriol that gets posted on this forum. This community needs more people like you.
