Moira's basic attack

Overwatch Retail Patch Notes – August 31, 2020

Just as a quick example off hand- And again, the devs have talked about this elsewhere as well. Though I dont have those quotes handy off hand, it was years ago- But regardless, we can see mention of her attach/detach angles in the patch notes.

Take of that what you will

Something else we can quickly test in the practice range-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhSFWwZRB8s

Note how at the beginning I attach to the rear bot first, then shift to the side, and drain the bots HP until its explodes- Then without moving my aim, the beam attaches to the closer bot.

This tells us that the closer bot had a hurt box that was in line with moiras primary, but it continued to stay attached to the initial target first, and then changed targets to the closer bot.

The tolerance of the beam to do this is quite small, but it is there.

(Ignore the bits with zarya. This video was taken at a time when someone was comparing her beam with zaryas, so this video was done to demonstrate the differences between their beams)

She has more movement than half the roster while self healing and has a damage orb doing 200 hp damage or 300 hp worth of healing. She can choose to 1v1 them with those stats while healing 24/hp per second while sojourn for example has to hit the headshot quick enough because she wont outdamage the self healing and damage done to to her otherwise when she has 0 charge. She has to hit every single bullet on the moira and hit the rightclick in the head or she loses.
She can strafe the whole time and fade to get out and then come back when passive has kicked in as well.
Moira can choose any favoured 1v1.

Moira outranges every single other beam hero. She also effectively has 296 hp if she doesnt use a orb while rightclicking and killing a 200hp hero since she heals 24 hp/s. Add a 200 hp damage orb or 300 hp healing orbs and suddenly its a whole different story while also having fade and a support passive. If you are fighting her in a enclosed area with a ceiling you basically have to do 596 damage worth at least if you dont have enough burst damage and she throws the orb on the ceiling to let it bounce.

Not this again… the worst Support in the game that needs some kind of utility or buffs again. I can’t even believe ppl still crying about her, i can’t!

And she has potentially INFINITE hp if shes slupring down on someone being healed by mercy :open_mouth: How do you kill a hero with INFINITE hp? YOU DONT, thats how.

Well yes but if your slurping on someone who gets mercy pocketed and you still kill them as moira then they are quite literally getting skill gapped.
Anything with a dmg boost/mercy pocket realistically should never lose to a moira.
They deal 25% extra damage and get healed more then moira is capable of doing with her rightclick (not with orbs).
You should just stand still and aim.

Any good ones will always force Moira out if not outright kill her.

Doesn’t matter what happened in 2020 OW1. The workshop is based on how it works right now. The hitboxes certainly are pill-shapes around characters with a few fixed pillshaped sizes for all characters.

And to call it angle based, or cone shape, is very misleading and contrary to how it is working in game.

Yeah that’s interesting. Maybe another condition on top of needing LOS to the center hitbox before it will attach. Perhaps with overlapping hitboxes a further condition needs to be met before it will switch.

Watched a vid recently about deadeye. There’s a bunch of strange mechanics. Needing los to a certian point on a character, but then it using los to a different point when firing, and if they are crouched or not, moving or not, it can fire on where a point was before or normally would be even though that isn’t where the point is at the time of using deadeye, can’t find it, but there’s clearly some predefined points on each character which can be used. Would not be surprised if this bit of code logic gets more complicated for moira’s beam on these edge cases.

This is possibly the worst comparison I have seen made…

Most of those forms of damage either require prediction, timing or tempo between shots. Moira primary requires nothing of the sort.

Every other form of damage you listed is loud and difficult to execute without be “in your face” whereas Moira can literally stand behind her own tank or take an off and silently deal damage from across an entire objective.

The notion that Moira primary requires more “aim” than most of those is laughable.

Cass nade is dumb, period. But it is 95% utility and 5% damage. Not comparable.

Soldier rockets require predictive aim, not something Moira ever has to worry about.

Hog Primary is highly reactive and dependent on movement prediction and often flicks. We obviously aren’t talking about hook combo because both heroes would be able to adequately aim and a stationary point blank target.

Bastion’s assault config is possibly the closest thing to Moira aim. It is incredibly loud and obnoxious though.

Dva primary is most effective at point blank range and hitting all or mostly headshots for max burst. This is usually in conjunction with boosters to close the distance on a target. Boosting towards a moving target and aiming for majority headshots takes far far more aim than Moira primary.

Remember we are talking about effective damage that leads to elims or real pressure here, not trash damage for a fraction of ult charge.

Sigma rock is highly predictive due to it’s long charge time and slow projectile speed. If it is used effectively then it is probably one of the hardest to aim projectiles in the game. Again we are not talking point blank enemies standing still. We are talking in an actual game with moving targets around corners and on high ground etc.

Winston Primary is an ok comparison. But again, big loud and in your face. You will get healed most of the time he jumps you and he is a big enough target that everyone will pile in damage on to him. 90% of the time no one will notice an off angle Moira comparatively silently killing a low hp squishy.

Reaper primary is far more aim intensive lol. It actually requires some aim tempo, flicks.

The only reasonable comparisons you could have listed are Zarya and Symm primary.

And those are 2 of the easiest primary fires to track with in the game after Moira’s…

Sure in a vacuum. But this isn’t a 1v1. That’s medium range, reliable, unassuming 50dps and is on top of any and all other damage on the target.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not at all saying she or her primary fire is broken. But lets not pretend like it is at all hard to use or is unreliable. It is the easiest primary fire to use mechanically and it is also the most reliable.

50 damage per second, literally every other character in the game can beat her in a fight. Just get good and the ease of use she has becomes a nonissue.

Just because you can’t aim doesn’t make Moira a problem. It does mean you should be playing her though.

She already needs to be closer to the enemy and very often you’ll see her besides the tank trying to regenerate her healing bar

Moira is not a big deal. Force her fade then she’s helpless.

Moira mains, love you to death but “It’s not auto-aim, it just has a hit register so large it’s impossible to miss” is not a great rebuttle.

That being said her damage is pretty low, so be confident, bait orb and hit your shots and you should win.

Oh man I love how this post makes Moira sound like an Elden Ring boss lmfao. This is actually insane.

It doesn’t, its just literal facts. Nothing more. Take it however you want.

Relevancy of this personal attack aside, I always thought it was a little person with one eye and a hole in his head, like a sniper shot.

its not auto aim, try it

If you cant’ do 50dps on a dps, moira isn’t the problem.

It does not have an auto aim attack.

Only ignorant new players think that. There is a wiki for those who actually want to learn BASIC Overwatch abilities instead of being a detriment to their team
