Moira beam is actually lock on

except is not
imagine lying on the internet

no it has a large hitbox, it just has an exception built in to only deal dmg too things its “supposed” to have line of sight on

Just because it doesn’t hit Sombra while she’s invis doesn’t inherently make it a lock on in the way you’re trying to explain it to be.

Her beam doesn’t have a “hit box” in the conventional sense (though I used to think it did).

It has attach and detach angles that make LoS checks to the chest hard point on a target.

All hero have multiple invisible hard points on their model that are used for various things (holding weapons. Ability LoS checks. Etc) The location you see her beam physically attach to the chest of a target is one of these hard points- and Moira need LoS checks to this point to damage a a target.

You can the console/keyboard in the training area where the enemy select terminal is to demonstrate this.

The beginning is just to show the hard point I’d mentioned

Past that you’ll see me “fish around” through the gap between the terminal and keyboard- the moment the hard point in the chest is visible through the gap, i tether to rein and start doing damage. A change is made to reaper to demonstrate the height differences.

Compare that to zarya- who can basically attack any point she can see in the same gap.

Please watch KarQ’s video on hitboxes and then come back to me.

Her sucky beam is the size of her ult beam. It is really that simple. It doesn’t “attach” to anything - that’s just an animation.

I have. It’s old and he was wrong.

I am literally showing you exactly what I am saying.

LMAO
He was wrong
he literally visualized it IN THE GAME
the game must’ve been wrong then lol.

Ah you’re showing me
on a self recorded video in practice range
SMH.

Karq has a video with size of every single projectile/beam/etc visualized in the workshop.

Yes. And what I show clarifies the explanation for why a smidge better

The game was correct. His understanding of what was happening wasn’t entirely accurate, however.

What I’m clarifying on wouldnt change anything in his examples.

You can do it with players too. It doesn’t change anything.

I’ve seen it. Great video. Again what im explaining wouldnt exactly “change” anything he shows off. His video shows the tolerances of moiras attack. My elaboration on the details of what it’s doing and how doesn’t change anything he showed there.

If that’s your logic, then explain why the true lock-on Symm 2.0 beam can detect and latch onto invisible Sombras. I used it often to spycheck Sombras before her 3.0 rework. Moria’s beam does not.

People are still confused about this topic? Moira’s primary is not a lock-on weapon.

they have to lie in order to get their anti moira agenda alive

It’s simply because of infinite ammo. Just flicking your crosshair across the screen rapidly would decloak the Sombra easily.

True, plus it would be completely broken if Moira could detect Sombra that easily with her beam. Sombra would become too weak (and Moira too strong of a counter to her - simply hold right click and turn around 360 degrees nonstop lol).

Moira doesn’t have a lock-on, they simply made it impossible for her to detect Sombra by using her beam because the hitbox was made too forgiving since Day One, but it’s ok, since it doesn’t deal a lot of damage (I guess).

I dont know if anyone else said this but if you think moiras beam is lock on, you should go watch some old videos of hows syms beam used to work.

Lockon typically means the hitbox goes up one it has a target, which in this case it doesn’t.

her not detecting Sombra is very lockon like though, so good call there.

I came here to post this.

It’s not.
If stealth Sombra passes trough any beam in the game she will be detected.

Moira grasp is a thing halfway between a normal hit-scan beam and a lock on ray.
It needs to be aimed, but the hit box of the grasp is the most generous in the game and has a short period of time (about 0.3 secs) where even if she loses the aim on the target she continues to hit the target making easier to follow his movements.
But still is not a pure lock on beam like the Wiston one or the 1.0 Sym one.

Its funny how people try to push the “Moira has lock on!” narrative since 2018 I think, when we had 2 and still have 1 REAL lock on beams to compare it to:

  • Mercys beams
  • Syms old primary

In both cases people have proven, that Moiras beam is a more strange animation and has a larger beam hitbox than it appears to be, rather than a lock on.

The Sombra thing is indeed strange. Would be funny if they came out and said that it was a bug or so. But it really could just be a balance decision like others mentioned.
