Moira beam is actually lock on

The reason why is that she cant detect invisible sombra, any other type of beam can detect it like zarya, sym, even monke consider to be beam but with helluva hitbox as he can detect her too, i think.
Only moira cant do that because its a lock-on like sym1.0 , not a beam with large hitbox and weird animation

The only Lock-on Beam in the game is Mercy’s Healing/Damage beam. Moira’s damage has its own weird hitbox detection

then can you explain why she cant detect invi sombra, while other beam can do it ?

Good point. If it was a beam then theoretically she would be able to hit and kick Sombra out of invis within 20m, but she doesn’t. But, if she’s able to see her within that 20m she’ll be able to hit her, and it will lightly follow her within a certain AoE, like a lock on would

Sigma’s rock is actually hitscan. Defense matrix eats projectiles and it doesn’t eat the rock.

Moira’s damage beam has its own weird rules, idk why, but it’s not lock-on. Every character has their own specific hitbox, different from their regular one. This specific hitbox around every character is like a sphere, and if Moira’s crosshair is inside that sphere, it will do damage. Idk why it’s like this, it’s just how it is.

As for Sombra, I have no idea. I guess the sphere hitbox disappears when she turns invisible

that is literally what lock on mean, you lock on visible things in front of you, unless you cant see. Like soldier 76 ulti

No?

Look at Mercy’s beams. She can literally turn around 180 degrees and walk away, around corners, or even through walls, and the beam will stay attached. It will only disconnect if Mercy target leaves her beam’s range, or if something obstructs her beam for 2 seconds straight.

Moira’s beam, works exactly like Sym or Zarya’s. As soon as the beam leaves the hitbox, it stops doing damage. Just cuz Moira has her own specific hitboxes, that doesn’t make it lock-on

Its possible that they just programmed it to not detect Sombra.

it is a lock on, mercy just has no timer when objects not on her screen, they still in her LOS, Moira lock on is like symmetra. They have a timer before the lock on break, but moira timer is incredibly fast

Does Winston’s primary detect Sombra? And if not, is that considered a lock on? I’ve always just seen it as having a massive hitbox

Imma just link this video and call it a day.

Go to 26:15 for the segment on Moira’s damage beam

Yes, Winston’s damage is just a big AoE hitbox I front of him. Including sombra while she’s invisible. That’s why is goes through barriers, unlike beams

It has massive hitbox and AOE

But does it detect an invis Sombra? Cause if not then we can just say Moira has a massive hitbox too.

Did you drink a shot of “thatsdifferentine” or something? It locks on within fov that you called a circle around the model. That is how aimbot hack works too.

On console she has the same aim assist as everyone else which does include a lock on

its incredibly hard to say, since winston range is incredibly low. But im sure i was hit by random winston while invi

NOPE

Not being a beam in the traditional sense doesn’t mean it’s lock on. It’s like saying that Winston is hitscan because his tesla cannon isn’t a projectile and doesnt have travel time.

It could simply be for balance reasons, as Moira has one of the longest beams in the game with no reload. Making it an easy tool to mine sweep for an invis sombra if it did. Also it fits thematically where Moira visually doesn’t cast a beam till it can confirm a hit.

Even then Moira’s beam actually does have a hit box, and functions in the same vain as as zarya’s beam. Where you enter the cone/tube of effect you take damage.

In the patch notes the two even share the same terminology when it came to shrinking down their beam width.
