Moira beam is actually lock on

Why does it even matter if it’s a lock on or not? Not a single person is going to argue that Moira is hard to play, lock on or not.

I swear people make these threads just to bait responses and for some reason it works every single time.

It locks on but it is and guided lock meaning you need to track the enemy

Those hitbox visualizers are just custom workshop things. They aren’t official from Blizzard, and they don’t use direct game data. Posting those videos is not proof, and requires you to ignore the various facets of Moira’s beam that you can actually see in-game. Do you really think they programmed a whole special separate hitbox for the beam just for Sombra, or maybe, just maybe, it’s lock-on just like it looks and functions?

and?

It’s one of “THOSE” threads…again.

Moira is not lock on. It’s like a beam but it’s more forgiving. Also remember, Moira sucks, a beam projects. So it even makes sense that she can’t detect a sombra, because you don’t have a target to suck.

It’s a shame you didn’t get to play the queen of lockon. Check some early OW1 Sym, that was the ultimate lock on hero.

Moiras beam has attach and detach angles, and requires LoS checks to the chest hard point of a hero.

I feel calling it a “lock on” in the classic sense is dubious.

But it’a not a typical “beam with a hitbox” either, and is closer in behavior to a tethering beam, than a beam like zarya or sym currently have

Its a balance decision.

Moira’s beam has both more range and no ammo restrictions compared to other beams. Scouting a sombra with moira would be way too easy

Mind you its not around. Its inside. Its basically the same total surface area, but it rarely goes outside the player model and sometimes its a bit smaller.

Its mostly because Moira has her own detection mechanic that doesnt work when the target is invisible.

But also it would be broken as she has 20m of no ammo scouting lmao

Moiras beam has attach and detach angles, and requires LoS checks to the chest anchor hard point on a target. Sombra, being invisible to Moira, doesn’t provide / pass that los check.

A Lock on wouldn’t change targets if someone stood between the Moira and the original target… :sunglasses:

Really wish this site had a ignore user function so i can stop seeing the same tired (wrong) arguments already.

If you go to the user’s profile there is a button to mute/ignore, which will hide all replies and threads from that user.

Click Name > View Activity > Top right corner has a drop box with “Normal/Muted/Ignored”

Wish it hid those peoples threads too lol :person_standing:

Does it not? It says that’s what it does:

I don’t have any firm evidence, but anecdotally I dont think I’ve ever seen a thread from a user I have marked as ignored. But it’s hard to know if that’s because it was hidden, I just never noticed them, or because those users never created any.

Nope, it doesn’t hide their topics, only their post, the topic name etc will still appear on the front page instead of saying stuff like “1 topic by hidden user”

Thank you for this. Its helpful but I can still see the post. It is what it is haha at least no notifications

The whole moira lock on beam thing has been tired for years now.

So about this…

Moiras beam can actually do this- it just has vary narrow angles associated with it, so the effect is quite minor.

As an example:

(This video comes from another thread where people were comparing Moira to zarya, so you’ll see both here, but)

Note that the beam is tethered to the initial target, which is behind the closer target, and the moment that further/first target dies, it attaches to the closer target.

This tells you that the closer target is “in the way”, and is a viable target, but it stays tethered to the initial target.

Again, and I want to emphasize however; the attach and detach angles are quite small, so this is a very extreme case-

But it is how it works “when you get down to it”

It’s not a lock on. It’s the hitbox that is huge, comparable to her ult beam.

Well, another more proactive approach is that you can mark individual threads as muted so they won’t show up anymore, but it wont stop them from popping up initially, I guess. So you’d still have to see them at least once

There’s a dropdown if you scroll to the bottom underneath the Share/Bookmark/Flag/Reply buttons.
