Moira at the Movies - review vod

Hi folks,

Someone kindly offered to comment on a Moira vid. So here it is.

https://youtu.be/BecPxilQsJ4

Lots of howlers here, after watching it back twice. Some dubious ult usage, one completely unnecessary, others a bit mistimed.
Seven deaths, of which five were totally due to stupidity: being overly aggressive, not running forward past Moira orb, wasting fade then getting frozen, trying to save over extended dps, jumping for no reason into dead eye…

Also general lack of awareness. I’ve gotten into very bad habit of tunnel visioning and not looking around enough.

Also some super slow reflexes in places.

Maybe some more death match will sharpen me up?

Should have entered Comms. 90% waste of time on PS4, but sometimes worthwhile.

Lots to improve on, for sure. But wondering if any less obvious errors I’m making.

Maybe have a bit more of a plan and focus. You kind of dps then spray heal around you. Have a target, burst your heals. Try to use walls to get more value from your orbs.
That genji at the start? He can easily grab the mega under him or the Ana heals him, don’t waste your cooldown.
Throw an orb before you ult. Ult further back if possible to get your team in it as well.
The play seems really reactionary, try to set things up in your favor. Prioritize healing. Deathmatch probably isn’t where you want to practice team healer Moira:)

This is every cent you paid for it.

2:30 - spray lingers, keeping on spraying has no benefit, but you completely drain your healing, and after that beam into emptyness, when orb could save your ana
and you absolutely ignored where your tanks are moving for 10 seconds; be more aware

3:35 - send your hanzo some support, love and healing orb, please
it takes 20 seconds (!), before you do that, and he has to request it while being all that time in your sight

4:10 - give hanzo burst healing, he is critical, spray is a weak option, hanzo will die

good idea on helping sigma with coalescence and beam healing diva in blizzard

good job on helping to deal with lucio, beams are the the most consistent weapon against jumping mobile chars

6:00 - did you heal enemy diva?? XD
best use of damage orb so far - focusing down what your teammates is biting already

heavy overuse of spray, remember, you don’t need to hold it till your teammate has full healthbar

7:10 - beaming down lucio again, this time with coalescence, good choice

8:00 - damage orb into enemy coalescence, eh

8:30 - you could stay on payload, and help team out by sending healing orb that would bounce back to you, pretty straight line to the porch and back
if mei died it would absolutely be on her, she had cryo, i’m certain

11:35 - enemy coalescence! bounce healing orb between two walls, heal your tanks and save mercy

mmm, your orisa survived for as long as she could and let ashe finish her attackers, nice

13:05 - you see ashe, critical; be aware

13:35 - may i say just “No”?

14:10 - good you realize, that it was extremely bad timing

you’ve used spray multiple times on characters naded by enemy ana

17:30 - mmm, enemy moira beamed from flank, not much you could do, but i still wonder where you sent your orb, if sigma was right next to you and mercy flew back to you from that place already

19:00 - Ciri is right, maximize the output, your orbs will be ready when your beam ends, make it either 215 hps / 70 dps or 140 hps / 120 dps

The first thing I do when playing healer is checking to see what the other healer is. In this case it is Ana. Because Ana is another main healer, you can potentially focus on your damage aspect more because Moira can do both easily. Let’s see how this goes.

1:40 Orb gets eaten immediately. Now you know they have a DVA that will eat your orbs. Unfortunately her existence means you will have to alter your play to account for her. Heal orbs will be better until DVA is demeched because DVA players almost never eat heal orbs but they will always eat damage orbs.

2:00 I don’t like how you’re in the middle of your team. You are better off behind your team. That way you will have better vision of your team, your spray will get maximum value, and enemies are still within range of your beam.

2:10 You throw a damage orb. Remember point #1. This is a waste. Because you did this, your Mei dies. 100% your fault here.

2:25 You are in front of your team again. Apparently so you can suck on a barrier which does nothing.

2:31 Your orb is off cooldown. Your team needs healing and your resources are low. You don’t use orb. Your Ana dies. 100% your fault here.

2:35 You decide to ult backed in a corner. Why? You didn’t even throw an orb first.

2:45 You go on a solo Moira flank to throw a damage orb. Why? It takes you 7 seconds to get back to your team. Surprised they aren’t dead yet. Or not… By the time you get there they are all low and end up dying.

3:10 You walk on the middle of the point with 120 HP so you can suck on a barrier again. I am sensing a theme here. You die. Your fault.

3:57 You fade back into spawn to run away from a DVA bomb. Why? It takes you about 7 seconds to walk back into the fight. By then, your Ana is dead. Probably your fault since you are supposed to heal her but you can’t since you’re in spawn.

4:25 You ult without throwing an orb first. It’s also a second after enemy lucio ults. I can see you are trying to use it to secure kills as opposed to healing your team. You won’t get any under this circumstance. How about you wait a few seconds for Lucio ult to wear off first? Your team was not in need of healing anyway.

4:35 You waste away your entire piss meter for no reason.

4:50 Ana needs your healing. You do some very inefficient healing about 5 seconds later. She ends up living, but you wasted a lot of piss meter.

5:02 Wasted orb

5:14 All that wasted piss you’ve been doing is coming back to bite you. Now you have to scramble to try to refill your meter.

5:22 You get frozen by a Mei. You have fade. This should never happen. Somehow you survive with 1 hp. You should be dead. Even after you are 1 hp, you walk back into the middle of the point. You should be dead again.

5:48 Why are you walking into Mei ult with 20 hp? You should be dead again.

6:30 You just wasted about 50% of your piss meter for no reason. There isn’t even a fight happening.

6:44 You see an out of position soldier, you can take this engagement. Instead you fade away from him coz you are scared he is going to 1 tap you or something.

6:55 Why did you fade into the enemy team’s map area to avoid a DVA bomb? You didn’t even look to see where the DVA bomb was. You are lucky there are no enemies after you turned the corner. Moira with no fade = free kill. In fact, you still almost die anyway because you walked back into the fight without your fade.

7:07 Why are you walking forward after you ult? You actually walk right into their Mei. Doomfist saves you. You are lucky. You should be dead.

7:35 Enemy Mei wastes ult. She’s out of position here. For some reason you walk forward again, even into her ult (again).

8:00 I don’t know why you decided to throw a damage orb after enemy Moira ults here. Not only is any damage going to be healed by Moira ult, enemy team still has DVA, and your own team is going to be taking damage.

8:38 I don’t actually know why you ulted here. There is nothing even in front of you?

First half over. This is more than enough feedback to see patterns.

1: You press W too much, even walking into enemy Mei when you out-range her by a long shot.
2: You waste a lot of orbs.
3: You waste a lot of piss. (Poor resource management)
4: Poor ult usage.
5: You fade in wrong directions.
6: I don’t recall ever seeing any AD strafing or crouching.

But overall you mostly stay with your team which is good. Even if your positioning within your team can use work. What rank is this like Gold? I actually don’t know how console ranks look because I don’t play console. But the same principles apply.

The only thing deathmatch will help is your mechanical aim, which Moira doesn’t need a lot of. She needs more game sense and positioning than anything.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

Sure plenty to work on.

Still trying to work on positioning better. I used to be too passive and constantly run out of heals and do pretty bad healing and zero damage. Explains my terrible win rate with her in prior seasons.

Now I’m being more aggressive, getting a better win rate, and need to rein it in.

I think I’ll just work first on being actively aware and less auto piloting. That’ll help me on every hero. It’s already helped my Orisa play this season.
