Obviously we won’t, or it would make new DPS passive useless. So, just avoid DPS at all costs.
I mean supports are getting passive self healing, that layers onto their normal kit. SO the likes of brig gets to forms of healing, While the backline ana doesn’t have to worry about chip damage building up over time.
Not to mention that ana got a major damage increase to 110 POD a shot, allowing her to two shot any squishy combo nade on top of that on any 250 hp heroes. Or do the same with tracer after a single body shot.
brig also got some major mobility and decent damage on her shield bash now.
Which would do absolutely nothing in face of burst damage, that seems to be even more common.
Ana doing 110 a shot??? what
Yup. It was always give tanks/support the CC to be able to deal with flankers without getting dunked on constantly and with that being stripped they either need insanely high burst dmg with no CC or the tools to escape.
Noone is going to want to play Support vs hyper mobility with no means to deal with them. Heck I’m a DPS main and I don’t want to deal with that, I have a strong feeling I’m going to be spending my whole life of OW2 in the backline with a Zen on Mei and left clicking any flankers he orbs.
It just means, that support cast may be reduced down only to Lucio…and Mercy. Since they still got(knocking on the wood) ability to escape instant deaths overall increase in damage promises to supports.
As for everyone else,
Burst damage is of no use on support, as support always has those windows, when they are focused on maintaining teammate and not watching for enemy flankers.
oh do I have the thread for you lol
https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/you-get-a-rework-and-you-get-a-rework-and-you-and-you
I watched the stream. The full complaint (as I remember it, let me know if I missed something out) is that DPS seem to be getting more and more mobility overall, to the point that a lot of support characters are now sitting ducks. And the ones that aren’t sitting ducks often have low healing output (mercy, moira, lucio) the only exception is bap, and support players generally don’t want to be stuck playing ONE hero forever because Blizz can’t balance the roles properly.
A BIG point missed out by the clip is that he said something along the lines of ‘anywhere under masters, you’re not getting peeled.’ So you’re going to have over a third of your team just straight up not having a good time because they can’t get help with the mass of hyper mobile DPS out for their blood.
It seems like Blizz really want the DPS to have a good time (which is great, don’t misunderstand me) but it’s coming at the cost of their other players. People don’t want to babysit support in this game, and if they don’t provide the tools for support to peel for themselves, then those characters are just straight up not going to be played.
Brig, Moira, Mercy and Brig currently get mobility, while Ana and Zen don’t. This video was part truth, part mocking some Support players about contending with Dive characters, but overall he was on point - ML7 earned a new follower with that video. The biggest problem with later DLC’s is they simply do too much at the same time: Bap, Ashe, Brig, Moira, even Echo to an extent are all prime examples, where OG characters often were specialists, we now have too many generalists… that reduces down tactical play.
The game is better served by limited, focused kits. I personally think no kit should have more than 4-5 things it does and not simultaneously in most cases.
Outside of zen and ana which support doesn’t have mobility?
They don’t necessarily need mobility; there are other ways supports can have a self peel ability that doesn’t involve movement.
CC is a good first choice, so long as its not a 6 second stun like Ana’s sleep (call it whatever you want, but functionally it’s a stupid long duration stun). Knock backs, knock downs, staggers, silences (Hack’s status effect), something to prevent/detere the enemy from freely engaging with you.
Obviously, mobility is also a good option, but that depends on the mobility. Giving another support something akin to Gurardian Angel would be a bit strong, as Gurardian Angel is one of, if not the best mobility tool in the game. But a short range dash, a short range teleport, a leap, a slide like seen on Sojourn even. You could potentially add a flight type ability like Mercy’s Valkyrie or Echo’s Flight, but that would have to be balanced more akin to Echo than Mercy, for obvious reasons. They could also use new methods of mobility that we’ve not seen before: A concept I had for Echo just after her reveal alongside Ashe back at Blizzcon 2019 had an ability ironically called Duplicate, however it was a movement ability - She placed a decoy of herself at a target location that, if she pressed the ability again while the clone was active, she’d switch places with it and it would explode, dealing damage around it.
They could also just give a hero a stim type ability, like Overload, where they gain increased defences to be more likely to survive a dive. It could be activated or a passive ability - I’ve always argued this to be a passive for Zen: Every time he reloads on an empty clip, his Shield Health will start recovering faster and without interruption for a few seconds. Basically how Mercy’s Regeneration passive works when she’s in Valkyrie, but for his Shield Health.
Soon enough that stim type ability will become irrelevant due to DPS demands for moar damage.
So it’s either movement, or stealth. And it can not be one-use ability with relatively long cooldown either, as “support hunters” are relentless.
Shes also boring to people who’d rather play heroes like lucio, tracer, or ball.
If Ana had mobility on top of that she’d be the most broken hero in the game.
Compare her to Cassidy. Cassidy has his mediocre dodge roll, a solid stun, the worst ultimate in the game.
Ana has a solid sleep, solid anti, and the strongest ultimate in the game.
Moira does not have a low healing output
I love how everyone is ignoring that Supports do A LOT of damage.
“Oh you are not getting peels below masters”. Bro, below masters if you know how to defend yourself, you should be able to kill ANY flanker. Specially if your other healer is helping.
This is not something new: If you want to climb as Support. Be aggressive, instigate fear on the enemy, dont hesitate to ask for help to your fellow support mate and DO damage like you are supposed to.
PS: Yes, they can have mobility as long as they are weak in other areas, like Lucio heal is low and has to choose between that or speed.
And have your team eliminated in meantime, because you aren’t helping them to survive?
Flanker doesn’t really have to kill support to be of use. One just has to distract them from supporting their team, make them too busy fighting for their own life to help anyone else.
So, yes, supports DO need mobility, so you can evade flankers, while still continuing to support your teammates. Unless you are someone like Zen, who can literally cast abilities and forget about them for a while.
Which is broken more often than not and six seconds allows time for her to reposition to some degree of safety. What I personally dislike about Sleep is that it’s on far, far too short a c/d and should not be useful at anything beyond 20m. But with one less tank to peel in OW 2, she will have to have it with no mobility.
Even Samito agrees that Brig’s stun is not the issue and sees a balance in it; what he dislikes in her kit is the ability to effectively throw RP, deal damage and fire off Inspire which has a 20m radius… 40m diameter. That is just too good for the effort involved as an example, but the actual stun she has is not really the problem with the kit unless you are a silly 12-year old Genji main who can’t think beyond “run in fire, die”…
which ML7 was pointing out in the vid as a principle that’s waning on other roles more and more in comparison.
again, which ML7 covered in the video was that he’s saying that the capacity to self peel or be aggressive to get picks is getting left behind (not that it was much ahead or even equal in the first place; this bit in parenthesis is my words not his). and not necessarily in the sense of “not dealing enough dps/burst”, but in the sense of tools that actually let them duel/peel better, esp against hypermobile threats such as flankers.
