Edit: I’m on console.
Before this patch MH became even more imbalanced with perks, as whoever won the first team fight would likely win the game. Not only did you get to keep your ult that was built up and the losing team didn’t, but you also got to keep your perk XP and the losing team didn’t.
Blizzard’s solution: Starting today MH now auto-gives you two perks at random when you start on a hero.
This just feels awful. You’d have to stop and check the icons you have and…what? Consult a wiki?
MH just keeps getting treated like garbage and it’s really frustrating from my perspective as someone who almost only plays MH. First they got rid of comp MH, then they deleted role queue MH from existence. Now this. It’s just jarring change after jarring change with nothing mentioned in patch notes.
My proposed solution: As a long time MH player I would very much recommend that normal perk choices come back and RQ MH returns:
The roles keep things like 3 Roadhogs/2 Mercys from happening which is usually a game over.
Dying means the pool of heroes you come back as is lessened, making the perk XP you’ve earned more likely to see the light of day again with your chances of seeing that hero again being increased.
You don’t need a Rolodex to figure out what perk you’ve been auto-given, as it is currently.
I love this game, and especially MH. Always have. I wish Blizzard cared about it too, because it sure doesn’t feel like it over the years… And I know most of the community doesn’t care about the game mode, but I’m hoping if you’ve read this far it means that my solution makes sense, or at the very least it seems like Blizzard is just…so weird with MH decisions.

are you really trying to complain about the balance of mystery heroes?
or just press f1 and read for 2 seconds?
the whole point of the mode is that its chaotic

Mystery Heros Is Suppose To Be Chaotic Leave It Alone… The Only Thing That Needs To Change In Mystery Heros Is They Need To Put A Max 2 Of The Same Hero Limit Like They Did In Comp. Other Than That Its Fine.
Also They Need To Put It In Comp And Keep It There

Sorry you’re being inundated with people who fill every orifice with replicas of Blizz execs.
As an avid MH fan, I get what you’re saying. The reading or knowledge will come with time, but the sheer power difference of everyone having tier 2 perks is ruining MH.
So many matches are just complete steamrolls with the combination of perks and full hero RNG. Any minor imbalance in team comp power ends the round completely.
Any combo of the stronger perk heros; like Orisa, Kiriko, Ana, etc; just make the round pointless. It was at least possible to break those comps in the past.
Everyone who thinks it should be “chaotic” or imbalanced to this degree probably needs to get their eyes checked, because I’m pretty sure the format was called Mystery Heros, not Total Mayhem. The mode still needs to be playable.
At this point my matches end with even the winners apologizing in All Chat and saying it wasn’t fun.

As a MH player too, I agree except for the role queue. Didn’t like that at all and it can stay away imo lol.
But the new auto perk system is so bad. I seriously got so annoyed that I couldn’t focus for half the game when I saw it.
Part of the fun and challenge before was to take out whoever on enemy team that had gotten perks, just as you take out their support and hope they don’t get another support.
Now it’s more like soft mode total mayhem mystery style.
I don’t like it.

No perks would’ve been FAAAAAAAAAAAR better
This change is better than the past 2 weeks though

Even though I don’t like it, I think it’s better than how it worked before.
Previously, your perk progress was only saved on a per-character basis, so you would often find yourself starting from scratch when you died and switched hero. That just made one-sided games even more one-sided.
I would prefer it if you had to build your perk progress, but that progress carries over to your next hero when you die. If you make enough progress to unlock 1 or both perks on a hero and you die, when you respawn as someone else, you would choose 1/both perk(s) straight away.
That way you still have to build perk progress, but you don’t lose it when you switch character due to dying, and you still have the freedom to choose your perks.
But I can see why they’ve gone down this route, given that they got rid of RQ MH in favour of the OG version, so now you have random heroes with random perks. Personally, I think you can have too much “random” though, lol.

Yep, saw this from afar, it doesn’t solve the problem at all. Perks shouldn’t be. Period

Was a huge fan of MH, Why can’t they just leave one mode just random like it was meant to be?

If you press the middle mouse button on the scoreboard screen. You can hover over the icons and they will tell you what they do.

Any idea how you can see what perks you have on console?

Wait, you guys LOVE RANDOM. Every time anyone makes a suggestion to improve MH they get shouted down that whatever it is would make the game less random.
And now the irony of complaining about the randomness of perks!!
Random perks fits perfectly with the spirit of MH that everything is mystery.
So what are you complaining about? They’ve heard from MH players and their need for random and they’ve given you the solution.
this is a problem with perks in every game mode. I have absolutely no idea what the f*** anyone else picks in any of my games. You should just be able to mouse over the icon on the tab/scoreboard screen to get a tooltip, but they were too oblivious to even add that.
it’s pretty f***ing sad that they basically stole the perk system from their own game(Heroes of the Storm) and didn’t even bother to implement it as well as it was done in that dead game.

Check your button assignments, there should be some way to show hero info. It’s the same screen that tells you what all your abilities do, it will also show your perk info.
Just open scoreboard, hit middle mouse button, then hover over your perks and it will tell you what they are.
Console doesn’t have middle mouse button.

You’re assuming one guy speaks for the entire MH community because that makes it easier for you to build straw man arguments. I “LOVE RANDOM” and I enjoy this new perk system for mystery over the old one. As someone that only plays mystery it was rare to see the level two perks ,especially on characters I’m not the best at, so it’s fun to get to play around with them more. It’s making the game a little more interesting which is fine by me.

As someone who only plays MH, the auto randomization/selection of perks is very welcome. It felt annoying to even select them in the first place, because its a novelty bad change just like RQ is. On that note, MH RQ is one of the worst modes ever and goes against the actual reasoning for MH. If you want to play RQ go play the bad mode, no need to ruin an already fun game mode, we’ve done that enough because people like you seem to want to control what I can or cannot do.
