Mercy/Moira Comp pickrates (PC)

Your friend is right. She’s a very powerful character, and her ultimate is nothing to sneeze at.

They can’t boost her healing during valk because that would step on Zen’s toes. They can’t buff the damage boost because then she’d step on orisa’s.

However, when you valk you, in essence, get to pocket your entire team which is pretty freaking powerful if you know what you’re doing and your team isn’t a bunch of idiots that spread out too much.

This is where you lose me. You will lose me here every time because Valk is very powerful.

There are two kinds of support ultimates: Invincibility and Assist.

Invincibility ultimates are like Zen and Lucio. When they go off, the other team might as well stop for a few seconds because there’s not really anything they can do until the ult runs out (barring a few very specific counters like EMP and Bio 'nade)

Assist ultimates don’t make the enemy team run away and hide from your DPS. They just make their job’s harder. Much harder. Brigitte, Moira, Ana, and Mercy all have assistance ultimates. They differ from invincibility ults because while you can be killed during them by just about anything, they tend to stick around a lot longer or just do more things in general.

Brigitte’s armor buff only goes away when you take damage. Meanwhile, Nana-boost makes the target better at pretty much everything, and Moira’s both heals and hurts at the same time in a fairly large area.

Mercy’s ultimate isn’t game-changing in the same way most of the others’ are, but what it does do is last forever.

F o r e v e r. 15 seconds is an eternity in a teamfight, and her enhanced mobility cannot be understated because it makes chasing her down almost pointless since she will get away most of the time.

The reason you lose me with the “her ult is weak” argument is because of the duration. Her ultimate is completely unique in its application and classification due to its duration and people want to take that away.

This is why my response to “mercy isn’t fun” will always be “go play something else then”.

If you want your ult to make everyone invincible, go play zen or lucio.

If you want your ult to kill everybody as well as support, go play moira.

If you want your ult to buff the hell out of a single target and make them a nearly invincible engine of destruction, go play ana.

It’s why they’re there.

I’ve seen the following suggestions for Mercy’s ult:

  1. Remove the chaining and buff the effect.

The intent of this kind of change is to turn Mercy into Ana. More healing on a single target makes that target invincible, much like nanaboost, while vastly superior damage boost…well…is also nanaboost. If that’s what you want then go play Ana.

  1. Make her valk heal more so she can compete with Zen.

Go play Zen then. If you buff Valk so that she’s more like zen you make zen redundant. Go play Zenyatta and get it out of your system. Or Lucio. They both do what you want in an ult.

Just…stop playing mercy if she’s not the character you want.

Just stop.

Ana sucks. Mercy doesn’t. You want to make her sound like she’s bad but she’s not, especially if we’re comparing her to Ana.

A Mercy who can’t outheal Winston+one more damage source> An Ana healing someone who is nanoboosted.

Ana being terrible is a completely different problem unrelated to Mercy.

Ana should NOT suck. Hopefully Brigitte will help fix that by blunting dive and peeling for Grandma.

Are you looking at the context of our conversation or did you just jump in with that?

She shouldn’t suck and no Brigitte won’t help with that as they don’t synergize that well with each other imo. Ana doesn’t have the heals to compensate for Brigitte’s low healing and they both play at two effectively different ranges.

An Ana that is playing in Brigitte’s effective range is playing in very dangerous territory and a Brigitte that is babysitting Ana isn’t proccing inspire or helping her tanks push or stun people.

I’ll probably be the first Mercy player to say she’s overpowered as **** because she can rez as a normal ability, invalidating pretty much every other support’s regular kit.

Till that is changed, she warrants a rework.

1 hour was enough. You don’t have to eat crap for long to discover how bad it tastes.

I just don’t find Valk all that powerful. Valk really doesn’t provide anything to Mercy. Sure she can chain heal but the AoE is smaller than Lucio’s.

Also I have a friend working on Maining Orisa, and so using Valk to boost, seems redundant.

I hear everyone say how strong Valk is, but I personally haven’t seen it. All I’ve seen it as is just “clean up duty”.

It’s the complete opposite of what Blizzard originally intended it to be.

From Patch Notes September 9th, 2017;

Valkyrie, her new Ultimate, gives her the opportunity for big game-making plays and opens a number of new options for her.

Patch Notes November 16th, 2017;

Now that it has a cast time, enemies are more able to counter the ability. However, Resurrect will cast instantly when Valkyrie is active. This should make her feel powerful when she transforms on the battlefield.

Valk WAS suppose to have those game changing moments-but with Rez as an ability Blizzard realized that Rez was always going to be more powerful than Valk.

And I agree, it’s because it is so long that it CANNOT provide the bust heal/boost that one would assume would come from a new ult that the devs built up as “Game Changing” and “to feel powerful on the battle field”.

I did not say that anywhere. All I said was that she will eventually need a rework since she’s still almost a “must pick” and Blizzard has nothing of her’s left to nerf.

The rework failed in providing the ult that was proposed. The response didn’t remove her from being a must pick.

I’ve only played this iteration of Mercy, and even though I find her ult lackluster, I still enjoy playing her because I love how her base kit handles.

Riddle me this though… who has a similar play style to Old Mercy?

Currently the best answer I’ve come up with is, no one in Overwatch… play a different game. Which is what I’ve been doing.

How on Earth is it fair that one of my favorite play styles got deleted from the game? Also… before you say it… I did NOT hide and Rez.

I am not saying either sucks really, both have their pros and cons. Mercy is better at sustained healing, but her ult really doesn’t bring too much more to the table, where Ana’s does. Mercy’s ult doesn’t feel impactful, and Ana’s does. Ana can watch and take part in keeping someone she’s enabled alive, where Mercy is now in the sky? Chain healing with beams that doesn’t do any more than what they were before the q press?

I love both healers, Ana is what pulled me into support and Mercy is what had me there for so long. Mercy’s old ult had huge impact, now I use it more for myself because it’s a better method to get away from ulting Genji’s or Junk tires than it is initiating a push or holding one off in a lot of cases.

If there was a boost of healing in her main beam, and depending on distance from that main target source that is how much the chain heal does, I’d be down. It has more impact, and she’d have that planning that Mercy is known for.

Right now her ult brings nothing new to the table, everyone’s ult has that awe-moment and Mercy’s doesn’t have that anymore. I have never pressed q with valk and feel like I pulled the team from the jaws of defeat like I have with every other support. With Ana, I have used nano to keep a tank alive in order to get important players on the field from spawn. Was it a waste? From a damage perspective yes but a nano-ed Rein is still formidable with or without shatter, especially since I just pumped him full of darts. Zen and Lucio self explanatory, a good tele is a poor man’s mass rez, Mercy doesn’t feel like she can do that anymore.

In my experience and opinion there is no impact gained from Valk that her base kit doesn’t already provide and that’s my frustration with Mercy.

For me, using Valk is like playing Starcraft. I (Mercy) dmg boost my team and tell them to focus fire zen first. It’s like sending in a bunch of Zerglings with level 2 attack upgrade against a marine.

At least 5 hours.

Ana’s ult is currently good in two situations. Using on an ulting Soldier and using on an ulting Genji. Outside of those two situations her ult is lackluster and no where near as versatile as Mercys. Ana watching someone else use her ult and win or fail doesn’t feel impactful, cut that out.

It doesn’t matter what the ult feels like, its what it does. If her ult is winning teamfights(and it is) how you feel matters very little in the grand scheme of things.

Mercy’s old ult felt that way because it was literally a game decider and the game could be won or lost depending on if Mercy got a big ress off. People would cheer if you got it off and literally praise the Mercy. You guys need to step away from that adrenaline rush because it’s not coming back.

I see this and raise you bayblade. Also, not really. Anyone can use Nano. My favorite person to ult is my duo, no matter who he is playing because he goes “alright” and just goes into the fight not caring. A 50% damage boost is nothing to sneeze at. It is most likely to get a team wipe with Soldier or Genji, but it is still can be used in more than just ulting those two and still get something done.

Really? A video game who doesn’t care about fun? That seems like an oxymoron because I am supposed to have fun while playing Mercy and an ult that feels lackluster is a big turn away from that.

Why shouldn’t Mercy have that adrenaline rush when literally everyone else does? Even Hanzo and Widow -two people who also are said to have lackluster ults - get that awe-moment if it sees impact. For Hanzo its the combos for Widows it’s the fear and headshots that do it.

Mercy players everywhere agree her ult is the most lackluster one in the game and all we want is a rush while playing her that isn’t felt with her base kit. Is that really too much to ask?

You don’t feel the satisfaction when you shoot Widow in the face?

I mean I can do that without ult.

Behold! A PotG that I’m 90% certain got us the point where Nano boost was used on neither Soldier nor Genji! I was the Ana… was a bit of a panic ult on my part cause I died about 2 seconds after using it… but hey… it worked.

h ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQtBOtpPCvE

But… yep… totally unusable on anyone who’s not Soldier or Genji.

There is no bayblade. Nanoboost doesn’t grant speed, it hasn’t for a very long time now. Even with Nano Reaper is also easily shut down and isn’t a great option in the first place, just like Ana.

Anyone can use nano but we’re talking about what’s effective, what wins teamfights. Nanoing someone does not win teamfights in the way that Trans, Drop the beat or Valkyrie does. It’s a very underwhelming ultimate. You’re trying hard to play up it’s strengths which while yes it does have some, does not mean it’s a good ultimate.

The conversation is even more amusing because you’re trying to do the opposite with Mercy whose base kit and ultimate is actually pretty good.

“Fun” is subjective. I’ve told you Ana’s ult is not fun, nor is Orisa’s ult. You say you disagree and find those ults fun. Some people are going to find some things fun and some people won’t.

What goes against your argument though is that Mercy is some unfun character but she’s one of the highest picked characters in the game.

Again that’s subjective and even further than that I think people would outright call that a lie. Not every ult is fun in the game, you can have the personal opinion that every other ult is fun in the game except somehow Mercy but are you really that delusional that you believe everyone thinks like you do?

You have a person vehemently disagreeing with you yet you’re saying literally every other character does. It’s not true and you’re clouded by your bias.

I see more Brigitte/Moira as a duo in most teams comps for QP nowadays.

Not surprising. Who wants to play as a hero who’s Q and E takes away a large chunk of your agency as a player when winning isn’t as pressured and your SR isn’t on the line?

Comp sure will be interesting when Brigitte comes in :upside_down_face:
