Mei 8th: We Need to talk about Mei’s Ult

Ni Hao Friends! and welcome once again to THE MONTH OF MEI Season 3!
A month long project where I post threads about Overwatch best girl Mei, every dei, for the entire month of… well… May.
Todei’s topic: Freeze! Don’t move!

If there is anything holding Mei back from being perfectly balanced, it’s her ultimate.
A fairly recent change added a dome effect so you could more clearly see where the boundary is, which is nice, but its still sucks that if I die as Mei before I finish throwing Snowball, he just disappears and I lose my ult.
if I press my ultimate button, my ult should go off no matter what (unless D.Va eats it, I guess.) even if it goes of centered on my corpse rather than where I was aiming it.

Thank you for reading, and Check out the SUPERTHREAD™ (linked below) for more Mei all month long!

So what is the counterplay to it then? Don’t say mobility because it’s an area denial ult. If it forces people off points then it’s done the job and between leaving the point or being frozen and dying, most people will attempt to leave.

Well, if you need counterplay, Maybe give it a health bar like Immortality field (only with more health than that, it is still an ult, after all.)

I agree that Mei’s death shouldn’t stop the trajectory of Snowball. I would say the same about Torb’s and Sym’s turrets. Even Junk’s Trap & Mines, too. Once they leave your hand I don’t see how it makes any sense for your death to cancel them :man_shrugging:t2:

Pulse bomb vanishing midair is my pet peeves.

Hardly Disagree, she is the monster from Hell

Otherwise, yes, but give it a smaller radius then.

ni hao kai lan

i miss that show

Ults have cast times. Mei doesn’t deserve an exception. It also charges in a few seconds if you can hit headshots

mei’s ultimate is basically as good as shatter and grav

good joke, one of the top ultimates doesn’t this this kind of buff

i think the biggest issue is not that it can be interrupted, but the odd timing during which it can be interrupted. Case in point, lucio has the most clear-cut ultimate interruption window. You hear the wind up when he starts shouting, and there’s a predictable word during which the shields come out.

Mei says her full ult line on pressing Q, and if you don’t actually see it being physically thrown you don’t know when it’s going to pop up because of travel time. Few other ults have this problem (i can’t think of any tbh)

When a mei gets her ult interrupted, i still think it’s going to happen most of the time.

Nope. Blizzard isn’t a transformation Ult, so Mei deserves no special treatment if she is stunned/hacked/killed during the cast time.

I’m not opposed to them slowing down the Blizzard animation though, while keeping the current cast time. It would be nice if the animation matched so she released Snowball right as the casttime concluded.
