Google Trends exists for like this specific purpose, comparing the buzz and interest of different things.
I compared ‘Marvel Rivals’ to ‘Overwatch’, ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, ‘Stardew Valley’ and ‘Deathloop’ and, after it’s announcement day, it only beat Deathloop, a years old game with no DLC. Cyberpunk got it’s last content like 6 months ago and still had 5 times the interest every day.
ion know about that one, some of the best games to come out are 3rd person shooters Helldivers 2, the entirety of the Resident evil series, rachet and clank, splatoon
to each their own, but dont miss out just to hold some standard. theres alot of good ones
lol, no, that’s not what im saying, but if you watch the videos…i mean come on…it’s an obvious rip off of OW…and that’s fine…im not knocking them for it, i hope they do it better…im just pointing out the obvious similarities…
Ya I am going to question your player for OW considering that it would require 1/6 of OW players to be using Steam which is a ludicrous suggestion. It would be shocking if more than 5% of OW players were using Steam, and that is ignoring the consoles.
However, lets focus on your main point. What I said about Valorant was 100% correct. I said from the first time I played it that it is just CS GO. I said it would be successful because Riot has a strong reputation but that its gameplay is not OW but CS GO and it is. Nobody pretends it is an OW clone anymore, they simply focus on how it is direct competition for CS GO.
the playercount comes from an average of daily players from. More people like steam than Battlenet, and its a free game. I will say i looked at old data, currently its around 300k
Apex has 256,000 players another game you all said would die off and be left in OWs dust.
Overwatch isnt something that cant be beaten. Plenty of games have come and made huge waves and shaken.
With an ip as popular as Marvel taking the mantel all it takes is the right place and time.
It’s a cool looking map and the game looks like it could be fun (albeit current gameplay made it look a little clunky, but it is alpha so can’t really hit it for that). Lot’s of established characters means potentially lots of options and strategies. Worth at least a look i would say.
HOWEVER
I think the biggest concern with this game and it’s lifespan is gonna be the devs, NetEase…they don’t exactly have the best reputation…
I suppose it’s the ripoff part I always roll my eyes at. If Rivals’ developers said, “We want it to look like Overwatch,” and then copied that, that’d be a ripoff. But I’m sure Overwatch was probably an inspiration for the setting of that map and the look of the game.
I think it skews more like a Valorant / Overwatch mix as far as design. Which I’m good with. Then again, it could be an almost direct ripoff of Overwatch and if it plays well, I’m there for it so maybe I’m not the best person to listen to on this.
