Dota2 has recently made smurfing bannable offense .it is high time ow does the same .if not then expect the game population to go down even further . Ow2 won’t save this game if it keeps going self destruct path
We need content more than we need to ban half the existing playerbase. Lul.
Define smurfing…
Are you being serious right now LMAO.
You wouldnt be banning anyone, they still have their main accounts
Smurfs give Blizzard money > money makes OW2
If OW2 becomes F2P than they could ban smurfing.
btw Dota 2 is Free to Play

If and when it goes F2P, they will most likely have a lot stricter rules on things.
(also new accounts don’t actually make them much money at all, hence the numbers people wanting them to go F2P)
also make “hardstucking” a bannable offence.
We have a ladder, if you dont let ppl go down on it, you have to have climb on it. You have 2 seasons to reach next rank, each time you fail, your account get autobanned for throwing by not improving.
More accounts to sell Jeff!
Well- If we go by what the Dota devs have implied:
It seems to imply theyre talking about experienced players, playing on fresh new accounts.
Or we can reference things stated by Jeff Kaplan:
Which seems to imply, experienced playing playing on fresh new accounts.
The “difference” is that jeff kaplan doesnt feel this type of smurfing is a problem:
Because he feels the MM’ing adequately places players where they “should” be quickly
Which is, funnily enough, exactly what dota was doing.
Where I disagree with him however, and it seems the dota devs agree- Is that the problem isnt in how quickly the MMing does or doesnt place players, its the frequency at which the MMing system has to try and quickly sort these players.
Of course Dota is a f2p game- so its a smidge easier to make such “smurf” accounts. But this doesnt seem to really dissuade players on PC, where you do genuinely cross players on “alternate” accounts on a regular basis. Nor does this begin to touch things like console, where they can make new accounts on a regular basis.
Smurfing is already a bannable offense.
The literal only game in history I know of that doesn’t allow multiple copies or accounts is Osu
As said, smurfing is already bannable.
Problem is people throw that label around at people far too often.
they have said it but is it a token statement or will they actually exterminate smurfing in their game. ill have to see it to believe it.
i dont play dota or read their forums but i bet if they do “exterminate” smuring it will be big news
right now they have just “said they will”
Throwing to derank is already bannable. Instead of hoping for dodgy bans i would rather see further improvements to the matchmaking system to keep good players away from lower ranks they don’t belong in by simple ranking them up faster.
The matchmaking is so garbage that it doesn’t even matter if they make a new account or not. You’ll still end up with forced loss streaks in the future the same as everyone else.
Source: trust me bro
Exactly.
People get banned for it in roundabout ways. Throwing games, boosting and so on.
this is because people fundamentally misunderstand what “Smurfing” is including jeff
Smurfing, is the act of buying a low level account, or a fresh account… and playing in a way which keeps that account low level/rank
this is buy throwing, leaving, “Deranking” etc etc, so that on the occasional game, the smurf can then kerbstomp the opposition having their own brand of “Fun” and ruining the experience for others in the process
having a fresh account, and playing on it normally so it reaches the same level as your main, is called “Alting”
Alting is fine, for the most part, although it causes some instability for the first few games, the match maker does deal with it in short order
Smurfing involves throwing to derank.
Throwing is already bannable.
Sounds to me if i can’t keep my performance up or play non mains I get banned… gg
