[Main Thread] Overwatch 2 crashes after a couple of minutes

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to step in and let you know this is something we are currently investigating, I cannot speak to any causes or any work arounds beyond the fact that creating a New Windows Administrator account does help (Where as most other typical crash troubleshooting does not) and we do not support any other potential work arounds at this time for this specific instance of crashing.

If your crashing issue is solved temporarily by creating a new Windows admin account, then your issue is likely the one being discussed in this thread.

There are several crash/freezing issues under investigation however so if your issue symptoms do not line up with the title of this thread and the mentioned work arounds do not help, then I recommend checking out our other [Main Thread]'s for crashing to see if one of those fits your specific situation better.

We are investigating and tracking all of these issues and while I cannot promise hourly or even daily updates to any particular issue, we will update when we have additional information to share.

At least we got a response now which is a lot better than the pure silence from the mod / dev team on this topic so far.

Nice to hear that this crash is finally being worked on and I keep my fingers crossed for the dev team that they can solve it as soon as possible, thanks for your help.

No problem mate, im here to help

Also for everyone that fixed their crashes with using a different windows user, try this instead

Just followed the post Baseult made

Look up on youtube
ā€œChange Security Identifier (sid) on Windows 10 | Change SID windows 10 Without Sysprep | Change SIDā€

I still have to do it everyday tho, which is super annoying as you have to resign into everything but at least I can enjoy the game lol

Changing my SID worked. I suggest you all do the same if youā€™re having issues

you followed the video that they are suggesting?

Yeah I did, but be warned, itā€™s gonna log you out of some stuff and get rid of all of your extensions, so write down your extensions in a notepad or something so you donā€™t forget them

if i change my sid, will all my file dissapear?

No your files wont disappear

it works with windows 10?

Yes, also, youā€™re going to have to do it every single day because itā€™ll keep banning your SID every time you change it

Iā€™ve been using the runas /user:[insertuser] "Path\to\OW.exe" in cmd method for over a week and it works flawlessly without having to create new accounts. I just created one, didnā€™t log in once and it works to this day without having to do anything repeatedly.

can you explain what you did?

Two weeks to get an answer. The funny part is that Blizzard has the agility of a turtle when they make money like a leopard.

Exactly what I said.

  1. Create new Windows user.
  2. Run Overwatch with runas /user:[insertuser] "Path\to\OW.exe"
If you want to copy settings:
  3. exit Overwatch
  4. copy settings from your user folder into the newly created one (only gets created once you run the command above once)
  5. do step 2 again

thankyou bro, this saves me a lot of time and works perfectly.

Wow, so the cause behind this terrible crashing happening to hundreds of thousands of players, is caused by a new anti cheat system falsely flagging your SID.

Would make sense if the anti cheat actually worked. The number of cheaters Iā€™ve encountered in the game using the ā€˜new user accā€™ work around to play, is incredible.

A new anti-cheat system causing legitimate players to suffer, and the cheaters to continue without punishment. When you think the launch of OW2 couldnā€™t get worse.

Well thats how it is with new Anticheats, there will be bugs and issues that didnā€™t happen while bug testing in development.

Lets hope they fix it asap
