Its ridiculous that we have to go through all that just to play a game when we’ve already been penalized for something that we can’t control because your game is broken. I spend money on this game and i may not be the best when it comes to comp but it’s stupid that i cant even preserve the rank that i have because of a problem that isn’t my fault to begin with.
This happened to me two days ago: 15 minutes suspension.
Then it happened to me again yesterday: this time 1 hour suspension.
First the horrible matchmaking, then this?
I finally found a fix: I uninstalled the game. I wanted to trust you but no, that’s what you deserve for the inability of your devs to do their job properly.
I happen to get my 2nd suspension on competitive (1 hour suspension) both because of the “applying update” error that I have to close the game and restart.
For many this is really unfair. Hope Overwatch address this issue and compensate all players by removing the time suspension penalties.
I never really leave matches so I hope this will be fixed properly soon.

Never had any problems until two days ago. Then i got this annoying “Applying update” bug (two times in a row) when trying to play competetive. I was banned for 15 minutes and then for 1 hour. Quickplay never was a problem.
Today i could succesfully play two games competetive. I now wanted to play the third game and got the bug again. Now i am banned for 8 hours. As i am paying for the battle pass, this really feels like being betrayed.
I will never pay any money to blizzard anymore if this is not fixed soon.
I am done playing this game, I’m now up to 8 hour ban and the developers still do not care. While they may fix the issue in the future, they will never recompensate their players or even better, change the system so that they can see intentional vs unintentional disconnects. I understand the person reading this has no real power so this is more advice for anyone else reading these forums, don’t play competitive, don’t pay money to this greedy company, and don’t ever expect to feel valued as a member of this community. Ik it sucks but only for us, they’re still raking in billions and probably laughing about how many people are getting screwed. Garbage company and garbage developers, you all deserve to be fired and bankrupt

How about this, make it so that NO UPDATE EVER happens just before joining a match? lol. Or is there a specific reason for this to happen? Can’t all the updating take place before the game itself launches? This feels like it’s just another point for potential glitches to happen.
how about just fixing the game instead of having everyone go to the practice range then quick play before comp.
You guys want to know the best part about this junkshow? Your leaver penalties because of this bug won’t be reset in season 5. What this means is if you disconnect for any reason next season it’s another seasonal ban. Once you collect a total of 3 seasonal bans your account is permabanned from competitive. Blizzard won’t reset or unban anyone this season to protect the other half of the community that most likely wasn’t even playing that much since they never were penalized.

I always get the applying update sh*t on my first game every time I play Overwatch! Please fix this ASAP! My endorsement is forever stuck at level 2!!! Not counting the penalties for 15 minutes!!! I have to force close it every single time!!!

just happened to me, not fixed. Revert the penalties on our accounts too.
Might work for you, this guy berethor delete his recent patch/hotfix file and it worked

for me I need to ask a friend to send me his hotfix file
Type in Windows Search %localappdata% then open Blizzard Entertainment\Overwatch
sort the folders by recent modified, open it and the Hotfix folder inside, if there is no file ask your friend to send every file found in the same folder directory you are opening right now in his/her PC and paste it there. relaunch the game and it should be fixed.
If it doesn’t then it is another issue

This is the most infuriating part. That’s why I won’t reinstall the game until devs issue an official update where they say that the bug has been fixed AND the suspensions have been reverted.

I’ve had the “applying update” bug 2 times today. It gave me 1 hour ban last time. And now it gives me an 8 hour ban on ranked? Please fix this bug ASAP. I dont really care that much about my loss in rank, I will get back too my normal rank eventually. But I just want too play the game in my limited free time at the moment.
No it doesnt, since you never join, the game ends within the time limit and doesnt affect other skill rating. It even gives them that message. This is just a BS excuse. How can they not see the difference between someones game being stuck on this screen or not? Worst case scenario they should be able to tell if youve actually entered the game. If you never even load the game, it should not penalize you whether you left intentionally or not.
