[Main Thread] Applying Update

This has happened to me twice and I’m now banned for an hour. I have never left a competitive game and it’s not good enough that we’re all being banned for something you can’t control. This needs to be fixed and looked into

Just got the error for the second time as well, there has been no news on a fix as far as I have seen, guess maybe we will get lucky and a fix will drop halfway through this season when they do their one update before the next season.

Same error both yesterday and today. Now I’m up to a 1h suspension… As a person that never quits, this really is a low blow. Getting a penalty for something I would never do.

Typical Blizzard answer. Yes they can do something about it. Their bug is affecting a lot of people, they are bound to fix it and revert wrong penalties. And don’t tell me they can’t update some freaking values in their database on players profiles. I don’t believe a word of it. They’re just unwilling and that’s a real shame to read responses like this. It’s basically like saying: « yeah we screwed up, deal with it and please get lost »

The “Applying update” bug that hangs forever happens quite often for me. This is particularly an issue when I’m entering a comp game as it will result in a suspension that I have no control over. I’m worried that players like me are going to end up with their accounts banned just for a technical issue we can’t control. The long and short of it is, never overturning bans/suspensions for any reason is a bad policy. If the game was perfect it would be a good policy, but the game isn’t perfect, the game makes mistakes, you can’t have a zero tolerance policy for something the game itself causes.

Just had this happen to me and my friend in a group. I got hit with a 15 minute suspension because of it. There were 3 of us and only 2 of us got the bug for some reason. Friend wasn’t suspended but I was

This is sad. I been sitting here with the applying update on my screen for 15 min seeing if I could avoid the penalty that isn’t our fault. I guess it’s JUST A “L” FOR THE OW COMMUNITY! Blizzard/Activision you guys need to do better as it is affecting a lot of people!

How I have gotten past the forever dreadful “Applying Update” bug, whenever I get this bug (I play on console ‘playstation’ might work for other consoles or maybe even PC), all I do is before I get into the game, praying that you don’t join one before, or are queued for support comp, close the game quickly and reopen, if it still happens, go again. Over and over, it may still happen, but still keep on doing it, for me this works first try so I’m not sure that I’m just lucky or there is probably a harder fix. Hoping for the best for you all. Note: I usually play the minigames (I forgot their name) that you can play while queueing, this is when I get this bug, so if you don’t play those, then you should probably start.

It’s seems like Blizzard would rather lose every penny they have invested in this game than change the policy on disconnects in comp. Why that is I seriously cannot comprehend for the life of me. And what’s really frustrating is they’re willing to lose everything for a policy that penalizes the player when it’s something that’s at their end, that the player has no way whatsoever to prevent.

Well, as of today the bug is still happening. Just got it for the 2nd time today so now its another hour ban. What a joke.

Just got this bug and I am now suspended for 13 minutes. If your servers don’t know the difference between a bug causing a disconnect and a leaver. You need better backend developers. That is a joke of a response.

Assuming we’re not getting any compensation from this? Since this will likely hurt the SR of those of us it has happened to. It isn’t fair for us to be punished when we did nothing wrong.

I just won’t play the game until it’s fixed.

It´s working I guess with the workaround. Any information when there is a hotfix for this? Thanks in advance.

For a game that’s been out for 6 months, with a fully functioning shop you want people to buy things from this isn’t acceptable and people catching lengthy bans for it while you as a company shrug your shoulders is pathetic. Absolute dogwater.

On a 20 Hour ban now. Reading this makes me understand that my account is probably just going to take the penalties. There needs to be a hotfix

Blizzard is honestly a scum company. I love their response “The fault is our own, because of an update bug. But YOU DC’ing impacts other players…therefore YOU pay the penalty.” It’s like if someone steals my car and runs someone else over, I pay for it? EMA, SUGMA. I hope Microsoft buyout happens and they do massive layoffs. A trained ape could maintain a game better than you can.

I got season banned due to this. This season I have played roughly 20 competitive games and probably the 10th one I got the error message and when I came back I was banned for 24 hours. Played another 10 over the span of a few days and 5 minutes ago I got the error again. Now I’m season banned. Thanks small indie company blizzard! Bought the battle pass too!
