A lot of people, especially myself, really wanted Sombra’s rework to make her a Support character who can speed up cooldowns. We got hacking while in stealth, ouch. (It’s a great change but will be annoying to block).
There is also a fan-favorite from the comics called Lynx-17 I think. They’re a non-binary omnic hacker, who helped Zarya track-down and capture Sombra herself.
So my head canon is that Lynx-17 could be a Support hacker who gives buffs to their team, a sort of anti-Sombra.

I doubt the Dev’s are even interested in trying out supports with different utility tbh. They hate everything defensive, and offensive debuffs only has so much to offer.
Love Lynx-17’s character, but currently Blizzard doesn’t have the ideological backing to design supports anymore.

Sadly utility focused hero’s are nearly always a bad idea and impossible to balance. The ability to reduced or speed up CD of other hero’s is so insanely useful she’d be a must pick on every team. Unless she was some how useless in every other field.
Basically niche hero’s like Bastion, Sombra, etc right now. Seriously reducing things like Rez or Immortality field would be the big numbers you think of. But also Ana’s bio grenade or sleep dart faster be insane as well…
There are a lot of fan idea’s out there, that Blizzard will most likely never do anything with. Seriously they need to have a contest with the prize being they make your idea. As things stand now I think they are worried about legal issues if they ever use a fan idea.
I have seen some amazing ones with full lore, artwork and some times even a few animations put together with voice lines for Ults… Youtuber called Blame the Controller used to have entire series of them, many were amazing.

Yes, the dev’s only care about raw healing. You would be lucky to get another support like Zen.

most of player base probably 90% will just gonna ask swap lynx plz etc
nowdays even picking lucio/zen below diamond will considered troll, and kept getting ask for swap
i once had gold elim damage and HEALING as zen, people still ask me to swap because not enough healing… while we have mercy who cant even get gold healing
The problem is Dmg creep is on the rise. Tons of nerfs to tanks and healers while DPS get buffs. Meaning it’s not just we wouldn’t see a hero like Zen or old Symetra. The game most likely wouldn’t’ work because solo healing as the likes of Mercy is just not possible any more unless the enemy team are potatoes.

I have some character designs and even backstories, but no real drawings or animations, I’m not very good at that.
Zen gold healing… is a bit misleading. Sense they count transcendence healing it massively boost your numbers. Mean while for most the match your team is struggling to get healed between those burst. Not saying you did a bad job but gold healing as zen isn’t everything.
Especially given Mercy if possible is supposed to DMG boost more than heal. She lost her main healer card a while ago.

the point is people hate a zen / lucio on their team, if they are losing they are first time blame, or no shield tank
if low heal like zen / lucio cant work for most people

I’d LOVE for Lynx-17 to be added as a support hacker.
Speeding cooldowns feels a tad lopsided for the hero roster on its own, but ult generation, applying damage debuff, or providing wallhacks feels right up their alley.
And I do think OW supports should have some degree of team sustain, but Lynx could primarily be a shield-granting support.
OH trust me I know, I liked to play Sym before her reworks. Shield Generator might of saved your teams life, forced the enemy to waste time looking for it etc. But on big shiny numbers it didn’t look as impressive.
Lucio is a hard her to get behind at higher ranks, quite literally. Most upper rank Lucio’s play like a DPS. Speed boosting and wall riding around like lone wolves, more after environmental kills and doing dmg than healing their team. It can work but if your Lucio is never around more than 1 or 2 people the AoE heal is mostly wasted.
That is is assuming they don’t ride speed boost 100% the time.
If you only think Support should heal, you’re uncreative. Zenyatta barely counts as a healer, but his utility makes him a great pick.

Correction* everything they have tried to do defensively in the support role has made unkillable monsters so the player base HATES defensive support utility. (Refer to mass res, moth mercy res, brig in every iteration, buffing trans and beat leading to goats, Bap lamp, Ana’s nade when it used to boost 100% healing and Lucio would amp her to full hp across the map almost instantly)
Basically- we want supports to be a skill based matchup vs other heroes not a free win because the supports have way better utility and not a free win for the other side because the supports are too garbage.
(And this is coming from a primarily support player at a 44-4500 level). I miss when I would outplay tracer and Winston as Lucio/zen during dive instead of just going Brig and existing to counterplay, might just be me though.
