Lynx-17, Support Hacker Hero Concept

I said he barely counts. His ult is a counter Ult, it’s meant to keep everyone alive and stop other ults like Grav and Dragons, but only for 7 seconds. His Harmony Orb isn’t anything impressive, his Discord Orb and high damage is what you play Zen for.

The only reason I think supports should provide some healing is to make them as versatile as possible.

Rein can only push so-much with a faster cooldown on Firestrike, but you don’t want the cooldown buff to be too strong or else Orisa & Winston will dominate.

But low healing supports can still be wonderful additions! Lynx just should probably have a strong defensive ultimate to provide their team with intermittent extreme survivability to reduce flaming.

Or shield application, to differentiate them.

Yes, let’s make Supports as versatile as possible.

Overwatch Devs: “Heal or perish”.

I like this idea, Lynx-17 could truly be a great hero. They could lower ally cooldowns, and hack ally healthbars to give them temporary shields or maybe even cleanse them of crowd control. The possibilities of hackers in this day and age (in Overwatch) are endless.

Agreed. And small amounts of health boosts go a long way to help supports fill roles to enable high healing demand heroes.

You can still make ample unique utility supports if they have a couple abilities to keep your team from scrambling over healthpacks between fights.

I have a Support concept called Vortex. They have a healing ult, but it really just boosts healing and can do damage, like Moira’s. His main utility is that he can basically permanently fly, can self-protect with shield health and can grapple teammates onto highground or out of death pits.

A permanent flight hero would be awesome (I know we have Mercy, but I was thinking more a spectator-cam kind of flight).

I had an idea for a Crow support hero once, who could perch on allies to act as a gattling gun, but didn’t arrive at a kit I was all-around happy with.

A pure utility support would need an amazing utility that offsets the need of healing for the team. I don’t think adjusting cool downs is enough to offset not having any healing.

It would be detrimental if the utility support can only be played with a big healing support.

Like if your other support is Lucio then the utility support would be a terrible pick.

They have a base health of 200, but can use a Shield Battery to get an extra 200 in shield health. The shield health decays at like 10 health per second, so they have 20 seconds of some shield health.
As long as they have even 1 shield health, their armour is considered “powered” and the retractable rings (not bird wings, more like jet engines shaped like donut rings) will come out and they will have permanent flight.
This means they can fly high and shoot grapples to pull their teammates onto balconies or away from death pits.
They have, let’s say a 6 second ability cooldown that only begins when they have completely run out of shield health. You can make this cooldown faster by manually cancelling your flight before it fully drains. You will also lose flight if you get shot and lose all 200 shield health. This is on Secondary Fire.
His ultimate is a kind of concentrated artillery strike, or rather a drone strike cause he flies. A large area is coated in healing and damage missiles that boost or reduce healing, respectively.
Their main attacks are shoulder-mounted cannons that work like Doomfists Hand Cannon, it uses all it’s ammo like mana, then slowly recharges one-by-one, good for burst damage but not for sustained fire.
They can also boost mid-air with shift, in any direction they are looking. Both the boost and grapple only work while “powered”.
They really feel like a mobile Zenyatta now that I think about it.

I also have a chemical-based Support concept called Catalyst, who doesn’t actually heal at all, but can apply leeching debuffs to her enemies or buffs to her teammates, so they can heal themselves by damaging people.

If they could apply a momentary zarya-bubble, I could imagine them being used to peel for allies, yanking them out of bad situations, like a reverse Hog Hook.

Just hope it doesn’t become abused by trolls like Mei wall was.

No one wanted, dont lie to yourself

Man Sombra must’ve hacked your account, she really must not like the idea of being a Support.

The reason that Sym was moved off of Support was because they realized she never was one and that Supports have to heal. There is no wiggle room about this as they just have to heal.

Well that sounds sad and the reason why there is only 7 Supports and 18 DPS. The ONLY new hero they showed off for Overwatch 2 is Sojourn, another DPS. Echo could’ve been a Support, but she probably wouldn’t have been a healer and of course became another DPS. If Supports are restricted to baby sitting some loser Genji, no-one will want to play. That’s why Ana and Zenyatta are popular, because they FEEL like DPS.

In a balanced game with fair counterplay and believable in-universe interactions, being in position to speed up CDs and positioning like a hacker archetype would be mutually exclusive. No hacker is going to be on the front lines without good reason- Sombra is made to work by primarily focusing on debuffs and stealth. If she was focused on helping allies she need not be on the battlefield at all.

Yeah and Mei is a climatologist and Zenyatta is Jesus.

And she was moved to join the fray after waking up to a dead team. As the OW2 trailer showed, she’s also not good at combat.

Monks and martial arts are very intertwined in quite a few eastern cultures. I’d call him the antijesus but people would get the wrong idea.

Explain why Immortality Field, Sound Barrier, Transcendence, Rally, and healing in general, exists.

Healing creep was an issue.

Defensive abilities aren’t a problem as long as there is counterplay. And all of the above have counterplay. So it’s not really an issue.

This isn’t what Blizzard wants though. You don’t get to make decisions about where the design of a character takes them.

we’ve all seen this spiel before. nobody cares what support “really” means or how some support in some other game doesn’t heal.

in OW, support’s primary job is to heal, and with role queue, a support who can’t heal is a hard throw unless they’re must-pick level broken.

Speeding up cooldowns is a great Support idea.

sure thing.

Maybe it can increase healing output of your one healer.

Well first off this is just roundabout playing another healer, you’re just making your other support do all the work, so your whole point is moot lol

Lets say your other support is playing Mercy. This support would need to be able to boost the other support’s healing by 60% to contribute as much as the worst healing support right now, Zenyatta. Now imagine they do that to Ana or Baptiste Moira. Utterly broken. And that’s if they only match the worst healer.

Ok fine they can ALSO hack health packs. Afterall, a Support hacker could do literally anything.

  • Give leeching buffs.
  • Give anti-healing debuffs.
  • Speed buffs
  • slowing debuffs.
  • 50% faster cooldowns.
  • 25% faster Ultimate Charge.

Since they don’t have to focus on killing, they can simply boost their team in whatever way the devs want.

Or hell, if you’re that desperate they can hack some extra health into their teammates or something.
