And that’s why I don’t get this hate baptiste gets when he can duel flankers fair and square unlike brig who is specifically made to counter flankers. Not only that, but baptiste doesn’t have any advantage against flankers most of the time and flankers usually are almost always superior in 1v1 situations like tracer and yes, even genji.
IMO anybody who hates bap with passion are salty DPS mains who got outplayed by bap. The only thing I agree with him possibly needing a rework is in his immortality field which can be a bit too annoying in bunker comps, that’s it.
Brig + bap/ana/zen can be a problem. But just because it is doesn’t mean the latter hero is broken as well and deserves to be nerfed to the level of brig.
Tbh I don’t think Bap is a good ruler for balance either. He has high burst healing, 2 forms of heals which are both AoE, hitscan burst damage, and on top of it both window and lamp. I don’t hate him because I’m a salty DPS player, I hate him because I’m a salty support player. He steps on other supports’ toes too much. He either needs to do less things or not be as good at doing them
I agree he does too many things, but so do many other heroes in this game. My point is that people make out bap to be another brig which just isn’t true. Bap isn’t brig and he isn’t anywhere near as bad as brig balance wise. Bap didn’t cause GOATS, bap 1.0 didn’t make flankers useless, bap didn’t enforce dive meta, brig did.
I don’t think I said bap is the most balanced support in the game. All I’m saying is that he isn’t as bad as brig and people need to stop constantly putting them together in the same sentence. Just start saying brig and ana for all I care, I just don’t like seeing bap get blamed for the stupidest things.
If tracer gets played with genji in dive meta, do you all of a sudden start saying tracer and genji are busted? Or what about sigma and orisa? No you don’t, you still call out the only hero that’s busted which is tracer and sigma. Which is more the reason why brig and bap meme is so dumb.
My only hatred stems from Weebs who play Genji with “Main Character” syndrome.
Telling everyone how they should support him by playing around him.
Telling people to switch when he’s not working.
Yelling at Ana for not Boosting him, even when the other Boosted ally helped secure the objective.
Thinking his plot armor will work in a match (1v6)
Personal Pet Peeve: Speaking Broken Japanese using phrases heard in Anime that was popular at the time (ie: JoJo’s “Yare, Yare Daze”). I heard it once and now am scared thinking all Genji players do this.
He’s really safe and lacks much skill-potential, so, to make up for his flat impact, they buffed the crap out of his ult. Plus, it wombos too well with Nano.
Deflect is massively impactful and safe, but has no real skill-expression. It’s just ‘press to safety’ with some minor positioning required. His small hitbox, mobility and the games lack of movement accel. lets him screw-over your aim by, again, showing no skill.
His primary fire is decent. Good skill good value. Sam as his dash; massively versatile, but not really problematic. It makes him notably safe, though.
His ult just magnifies all of his issues and adds burst-damage on top of that. The low FoV and in-your-face nature, really, doesn’t help, either.
Genji’s just a mosquito that you can’t do much about until you can, where you just flatten him. He’s, massively, feast-or-famine and that’s a massively inconsistent way to make a competitive game. Tracer is similar with her aim-abusing mobility options. They’re just not very interactive.
Honestly, it’d go a long way by increasing his hitbox dependant on his speed and giving him like 50 extra HP. Maybe if they gave Deflect two charges of .5/6 seconds, each with a CD of 5 seconds, too.
If hes reflecting his not killing and then you just look at the ground and as soon as he stops reflecting do it again you can minimize him to like 1 kill maybe 2.
Oh looks it’s the Genji player who will reply to anyone on the forums with “git gud” because they can’t understand you can’t have heroes with 5x the mobility of 99% of the roster with high burst damage and then nothing reliable to deal with it while also focusing on a single aspect of their hyper mobility and acting like you aren’t double jump inside the enemy holding right click while having an ability that can literally block shots.
Bap 1.0 wasn’t that good. His gun was way slower (0.45 fire rate recovery instead of 0.38 he now has), had 20m fall-off range, and had random spread. So no, he was nothing like brig 1.0, he had to ge buffed multiple times to be able to compete with ana and moira in pick rates as a main-healer: List of all Overwatch 2 Hero updates and balance changes - 2024 | Esports Tales
Also according to this source, bap neither was believed to buff or counter GOATS, since he didn’t add much to the already strong trio that is brig, lucio and zen: https://onlysp.escapistmagazine.com/overwatch-baptiste-goats-composition/
Despite Baptiste’s AOE healing and Immortality Field, he lacks the mobility and offensive capabilities that the current characters in GOATS all have. He is an unfitting replacement to anyone on the team and will likely not be used in the higher tiers of competitive. Baptiste is not a perfect counter either and would require a team built around his abilities to stand a chance against GOATS’ deadly dives. However, other metas have a chance to rise once Baptiste enters competitive play, the most obvious being the Pirate Ship composition.
Baptiste appears to be neither a counter or buff to the GOATS composition, and instead might encourage new metas to appear within the lower tiers of competitive.
It’s not about whether you can kill him or not, it’s the inherent advantage he has over the vast majority of the roster and you failing to understand it’s unhealthy to systematically nerf every counter of a hero while buffing that very same hero and wondering why people have a problem with him.
First of all, this just highlights how broken the other heroes rather than saying Genji isn’t an issue in some way. Also no, that by far goes to Reaper who literally has 0 mobility.
It’s a spray of shurikans that spread in the exact same pattern 100% of the time everytime. It’s incredibly consistent, the only variable is your aim which is the exact variable Echo has with her bombs. Also dash, rightclick melee is much faster burst damage than bombs + E. You can react to Echo since aslong as you’re above half HP, her E will do nothing. As a result a healer can react in time to deal with this and have more time to react. Genji dashing into you from multiple meters instantly followed by a right click melee happens in under half a second, a speed most people can’t react to let-alone a teammate.
Doom has a charge up you can hear from across the map and tracer hitting pretty much an entire mag of headshots takes drastically more skill than Genji’s extremely generously sized hitboxes.
Dashing instantly 10m or so is hyper mobility. Having it reset on assist/kill adds to this. + Wall run + double jump + base movement speed increase. That’s unique 4 sets of mobility Genji has access to and most of the roster don’t even have 1.
Funny how you conveniently ignore the dash damage prior to this. Or the ability to dash during this.
No, they don’t. And as I said the heroes that do have it cannot deal enough damage through it anymore most of the time for it to be useful. Plus he can cancel it at will now so you aren’t even punished for using it.
Damn, it’s almost like he can use it mid attacks to block 1 or 2 shots instantly then instantly stop using it to finish you. Noone just sits there spamming into a reflecting Genji across the map. You are reacting to this while Genji is initiating. Giving him constantly a free bit of damage off the back of using this ability.
I honestly would like to think that the hatred often comes from Console players (more specifically lower ranks). I seem to hear “genji op” from console players a lot more than pc players. maybe because its harder to hit him on there probably.
Idk if I would blame baptiste for genji being unplayable. Baptiste himself doesn’t counter genji at all and only brig and moira does. It’s kind of unfair to put the blame on baptiste for the meta that makes genji less than an optimal choice. Is tank not part of the comp, or the superior DPS hitscans?
Also ironic how the genji player (OP) whines about being called OP and hated. And at the same time, is doing the exact same thing to baptiste.
He doesn’t directly counter Genji but he damn well makes things 100x more difficult for him
Baptiste secures the backline with threatening damage and high sustain meaning if he’s paired up with a Brig then Genji can do nothing else but hold left click and hope to not get solo ulted when blading. This would be a lot more manageble if Baptiste didn’t exist in the backline
Not to mention he’s got good dueling potential as well, being able to directly 1v1 Genji or stall him out so that his team can come to his rescue
So you’re blaming baptise because brig exists? Might as well also blame ana and zen too in that case. I’m sorry but blaming baptiste for genji being unplayable makes no sense to me.
