Let torb "Select" the target for his Turret

I think they should allow torb to select what his turret is firing at

you know like how zen throws his discord on visible targets, torb should have the same recital that marks a target for his turret, which then removes after they have been outside LOS for a short time

so many times the turret is just aimlessly firing at a shield when there are flankers decimating the backline which the turret could help fend off

and yes i know it targets whatever you hit with your rivet gun, but that’s a very hard shot to make on most targets especially a tracer or a genji or a sombra

it would also allow him to be more usefull in focus firing targets, and finishing off low health targets before they manage to escape

i think that sounds good on paper but then what about when torb is dead and walking back from spawn, his turret should never have any down time in my opinion as its dps isnt very high to begin with

well when torb doesn’t select anything, or is dead, it acts like it currently does and fires at whatever first enters its LoS

yeah that does sound pretty cool actually, but wouldn’t that just mess up pharah a lot more on maps like Hollywood?

maybe, but

1, phara can destroy a turret in 3 shots, which isn’t a hard thing to do and she can do it before it kills her

2, when is phara ever played without a mercy pocket? at which point it doesn’t matter if its firing at her on its own

yeah I like the idea a lot tbh it gives torb more micromanagement but its only optional

Yep, that’s the point it’s supposed to increase his skill and not make him any easier to play.

It’s high skill (hitting them with rivets) high reward (them getting melted)

umm… but the skill vs reward is far too high…

torb is meant to be a low skill hero anyway, so forcing that kind of pin point accuracy on a projectile hero with an arcing projectile for a second or so extra damage from his turret is unfair…

and no… his turret doesn’t melt anything, it has a painfully low DPS and fire rate, the most it does is harass and prevent movement into an area from flankers

but that is nullified because they just wait for a tank to enter in first, take the aggro and then do whatever they want free of harassment

i think the main use of it though would be to have two targets getting show down at once instead of having it just keep switching targets depending on who you’re shooting at

It’s not entirely necessary. Learning to use accurate fire to direct your turret is part of Torbjorn’s skill curve.

All of the low-skill heroes have unique factors or abilities that allow people to put time into them for value similar to the high-skill heroes. Alongside hitting shots, Torbjorn can master turret & Molten Core placement. Bastion can find all the little nooks and crannies he can get into to surprise his opponents when they walk forward. Mercy has her variety of movement tech. The list goes on.

This kind of potential skill ceiling for low-skill heroes is a large part about why Overwatch is fun. People wouldn’t play heroes if they were boring or had no potential to grow.

Also, manually selecting Torbjorn’s turret target would be unintuitive and take too long for newer players.

I thought his turret attacks what he hits with his primary? Maybe I’m wrong…

yes, but comparatively having to have better aim and trigonometry prediction than hanzo to deal all in all less damage over time makes it an unfair expectation and reward

there are only so many places you can put a turret due to the geometry of the map, the way the collision works, and the fact it needs LoS

there is nowhere you can put it where it can fire but not be fired at easily, so most of the time it does 80 damage to a shield, then explodes where it gets focused… with my idea you could put it where it covers the backline and shoots at what you want it too without having to arc a rivet 5 miles into the body of a stick thin flanker

no it wouldn’t… does it take people long to figure out how to throw a discord orb on people in LoS?.. no… that is exactly how it would work, they come into torbs LoS a retical pops up on them, you push the associated button, they are marked, and the turret will fire on them whenever it has LoS untill you move the mark, or they move out of torbs LoS for a short time

it does, but the problem is, its way to hard to hit those shots on small fast moving targets, which is what you want the turret to be shooting at

Most of your damage should be from Torbs rivets at most the turret will get 1/4 to 1/3 of you the damage you’ve done with Torb. The turret is more of a supplemental annoyance punish bad awareness or distracted players. it’s already rather powerful as is allowing you to target would be nice of course but it’s not like Torb is in a bad position. Anyway just spam his primary mary and try to lead shots I’d say it’s about 50/50 skill/luck Torb does pretty high damage especially when he’s overloading.

Well high skill high reward
We should leave it like that honestly

Unless you want torb to be witch hunted

True, it would be a good use but at the same time wouldn’t it be better to focous on target and kill them quicker?

his turret is supposed to deny space… it doesn’t do that currently, it just fires at shields or whatever is first in its LoS…

letting flankers and other squishys ignore it and do what they want

whats high skill about spamming space bar and M1 untill you can Q + WM1 + Shift into the enemy and get a team wipe?

but thats balanced and fair according to genji mains…

in theory yes, but it doesn’t happen that way, i would prefer having the turret watch my back and protect my healers so they and i can do our jobs without having to worry about Jump and cut weeb man, or lesbian time traveller kerb stomping our teeth out every 5 seconds

…Torbjorn’s DPS with his gun and his turret on the same target is about 170? And Hanzo takes over a second to charge and fire his 120 damage arrows? Storm Arrow grants more DPS than Overload, but it doesn’t last as long.

Torbjorn also comes with more survivability, but Hanzo’s Sonic and Storm arrows balance out the utility Torbjorn gets from Overload and the health pool on his turret.

Which button?
The actual turret button is used to instantly redeploy Torbjorn’s turret when it hasn’t been used for a while. Interact is used to destroy his turret. On Console, you are already practically out of buttons to use comfortably.

When i devised a concepr for this ability, before its implementation, thats how it worked

hanzo gets 1 hit kills, and has projectiles the size of double decker busses

torb does not

Torb has a head hitbox the size of jupiter and his turret is stationary, he also has no mobility

just replace the “destory turret” button

if a turret is deployed you don’t destroy it to redeploy it, you just redeploy it

ive played hundreds of hours on torb over several accounts, and ive used the destroy turret button once… ONCE!.. and it was a misclick…

Probably would never happen but imagine if Torb had an ability that allowed him manually control his turret, like the Engineer’s Wrangler in TF2.
