Leaver Warning Labels

Devs,

Thanks for warning me about leaving a horrible stomp of a game. Your bold red label made it apparent that my endorsement level will go down and I’ll have to wait to join a new match.

Apparently, leaving is “disruptive” to other players.

So in that spirit, I have a warning label for you:

WARNING:

Persistent poor match making will result in a loss of player base and reduced monetary income. Stomps are never fun. If you want players to invest in your matches and your game, perhaps you should invest in making your matches fun and at least approaching even.

Bad match making is “disruptive” to players too.

OW1 was never this bad. Whatever you did in OW2, fix it.

a brain dead director put this stuff in it and its actualyl had a negative effect like people throwing has increased significantly i think ive had to report 2 or 3 teams in a row for throwing

even people in here will defend throwing with their lives but will fight you tooth and nail if you ask for the leaver penalty to go away.

Whats crazy about this whole ordeal is. I came up with a VERY simple system for Player Quality Match making and it would “solve” the community divide.

VERY EZ to program too.

Player Quality Rating (PQR) match making:

1-50 point system.

  • Leave a match: -2
  • Complete a Match: +1
  • Leave a match in overtime: -4 | +10 minute Re-Q penalty
  • Leave a match within the last 1:10 seconds: -3 | +10 minute Re-Q penalty
  • Complete a Match as a backfill: +2
  • Receive a one or more valid AFK Report in a match: -5
  • Be ejected from a match for being AFK: -6

no, just dont have leaver penalties for any mode but comp.
if people want to throw in unranked, then people should be able to leave if they dont want to play with them, sorry not sorry.

Okay. I will agree with your post.

and the reason why I will agree with that. Is because when in 2017 on the old forums that we had. Leavers and casuals were TOLD to go play QUICKPLAY and stay out of comp if they wanted to play and leave matches.

:beers:

The problem stems from one simple truth my friend…

Does that work generate money in a data driven way… if not why waste resources on a project that is a maybe vs one that will… ad infinitum…

Heck call it an ouroborosian cycle of only doing what makes money thus driving players to be more toxic then realizing you have to deal with that behavior to maintain money… so you constantly make concessions for them untill the game dies a slow hollow death…

Its why so many other games fight it vigilantly but atm I think blizzard is in crisis mode due to Microsoft demanding higher revenue

Ultimately OW2 needs vision of what it could be… but we dont really have anyone in the seats atm who can see that vision… so we all are COASTING on embers of what was!

yeah for sure! I mean at this point. its kinda gotta be like everyone sees a different version of the game they want kept

and the constant Gas lantern that is fueled is the whole “it will increase Q times” if they do this or that.

I guess what I see is potential being missed out on.

I guess to me i see it as an IRL crisis:

If I own a farm and I refuse to grow anything else except corn every year. I missed out on other markets that coulda done better if I equally portioned out the land. Corn may be up the one year , but it could fall flat in market price and soybeans do well that same year. I’d be wise to raise Corn, soybeans and wheat, so if one market exists, but doesn’t pan out. I’d still have something to sell to someone.

especially since not everyone likes corn, and not everyone likes wheat

See, thats rational, and smart because diversification is what enabled fighting games to do well in a casual market.

Honestly its why we needed pve to work… because even if pvp got stale you could switch modes and play that mode.

I am not smart and none of us on the forums know the pain stress and sweat that went into overwatch 1 and 2 and using hindsight as a bat sucks but im just hoping future indie games learn from the failures and thrive from the mistakes made here today.

Blizzard knew this from the start… you live and die by fostering the community so when overwatches torch is passed on I hope that understanding also transitions to that new game.

You can thank the chronic leavers who ruined matches before- who left if a hero they didn’t like was picked on their team, if 1 team fight was lost, etc. You can thank them for these draconian measures blizzard took. I don’t like em too- but then again, I rarely leave games. I tough through stomps and throws. I got better mindset and better skills because i put up with it. I also experienced LOTS of chronic leavers, and games that were once close are screwed because of the leaver be it my team or their team. People left for dumb reasons and we now live with the consequences. AGAIN, I am not a fan of it- but I ain’t mad at blizzard for being draconian about it.

People won’t learn and people won’t follow unless the penalties are severe in toxic fps video game world.

Look at valorant. If you mess up in comms and be toxic? They smite you almost instantly (1st hand experience cause I saw my cousin insta banned for trash talking one game). I also saw my cousin get banned on an alt for leaving too much. After 1 game abandoned? He got a penalty instantly. More? He can no longer log into that account. They’re harsh there because they know leavers ruin games- so do throwers- and speaking of, they get harshly dealt with too.

Imagine you’re in a game trying to win, trying to learn a hero- etc- and you simply can’t cause you’re always down 1 and the person leaves. That ain’t fair.

It also aint fair that people in OW who throw? They don’t get dealt with and we have these draconian laws in place to prevent us from reacting to it.

SO AGAIN, thank the chronic leavers.

That was fire xD

Its more prevalent in 2 because of the smaller team sizes
Each person on the extreme end of the skill spectrum represents a much larger spike in the team’s average ability when they’re 5 in number than 6.

I do agree these punishments are too harsh as long as they can’t promise us fair matches. And if they can’t do that with matchmaking, then its time for them to experiment with performance-based handicaps.

The 5 second wait is what kills me. Like, when the postman comes I just have to go, I won’t wait for 5 seconds, sorry.

The result is that now instead of leaving I just afk until I get kicked  I don’t leave much, but the rare times when I do, I need to leave fast.

Allow chronic leaving again! So someone can leave the match, then someone can join, and instantly leave. On repeat. Until the match ends.
Yeah, I missed that so much

stop leaving matches you sook

Frequent leavers are c4ncer. Leaver penalties is the cure.

As a quick play user of this product, i have the same right to have unruined match by leaver snowflakes, as much as comp players do. Im happy the penalties are here to stay.

As someone who has played this game since OW1 beta, I’ve very very rarely ever left matches.

Like I could count the number of times on one hand despite years of playing.

But the quality of matches are horrible. And my desire to just leave matches has never been higher and continues to grow the longer I play this game.

Rampant stomps and cheaters have done nothing but make the problem worse.

Leavimg has always been a thing, but it’s also a symptom pf a larger problem - match quality.

It would be like a restaurant selling terrible food, but then telling their customers they can’t run to the bathroom.

I just find the big red warning labels hilariously out of touch.

Thinking that people are just “snowflakes” is such a deflection.

In any average evening of OW, most matches are bad. The rare close match is refreshing, but at this point it’s becoming like a slot machine.

Most of the time your match will suck, but perhaps 1 in 10 matches you’ll actually get something enjoyable.

You see Blizzard you do not even need to harass players with warning, sanction, ban, shame, flo…

If you are unhappy with the leavers then maybe stop putting diamond stack vs mix of silver-bronze with 1 plat.

Then magic will happen ! Players will stop leaving !
Incredible secret tech isn’t it?

that likely would just kill the game completely
