At one point, when OW2 was announced, we were told it would be OW1, but with PVE and updated models. That OW1 would continue, but OW2 would be the new stuff. Then they said everyone would be moved to OW2, but we’d need to purchase the new game mainly for the PVE portion. They moved it to 5v5 and people were less happy. Then F2P and Fortnite battle pass nonsense. Now actual content, not just cosmetics, locked behind BP… It’s not Overwatch anymore.
Leave OW1 alone, I paid for it already. I don’t want to bother with this mess that is OW2. I don’t want the game I play now, and have played for years, to become whatever you’re trying to turn it into. I haven’t gotten any content in ages and I still play it. I’ve spent hundreds/thousands on OW merch. I’m already taking a loss. Let me play my game until the last players leave and you can take down the servers. I was fine with my OW1 account converting into an OW2 account at the beginning, because I thought I’d still be able to play the game. Don’t wait for years to release “OW Classic” when the current players move on.
Unless you’re willing to offer a “buy once, get everything” model, like OW1.
Update: In an effort to respond to some of the questions, I was going through some of the earlier Overwatch 2 interviews with Jeff and others… It’s gutting to see the vision he had versus what we’re getting . They further cement the fact that OW2 was intended to be it’s own game and a sequel, not a replacement. It also further cements that there was every intent to leave OW1 and its servers intact.
If it was that simple, there wouldn’t be an issue. I said specifically that they could offer me a model similar to OW1 and I’d be fine with it. I already paid for OW1 with the promise that I’d never have to buy a hero. That would remain the case if they didn’t convert my OW 1 account into an OW2 account.
Cod dont get deleted out of existance, you can still play old cods even if there is a new one, also most people i know stood in Cold war because Vanguard was so bad, imagine if they deleted Cold Ward and forced everyone into Vanguard pit of shame, yeah thats what is happening with OW
The player base is already split between those staying and those leaving. I paid for Overwatch 1, I shouldn’t be forced to play Overwatch 2. The argument being thrown at people is that they don’t have to play. I just want to continue playing what I paid for already.
Yeah? well too bad.
overwatch 1 has ALWAYS been changing. THIS IS NOT NEW.
we haven’t been able to play the game we all bought upon release since 2016.
-heroes, maps, balancing, modes, role que, hero stacking, arcade, customs
ALL CHANGED SINCE 2016.
this has happened Every. Single. Update.
we cannot play vanilla OW1 ever again. same as fortnite.
quit acting surprised, because this is not new.
the only difference is the Number 2.
Not the case. It is a completely different game. It’s a complete change to core mechanics, completely different monetization system, new heroes locked behind battle passes, maybe some PVE if they don’t scrap it at this rate. Role queue (which is still technically a choice and not forced) and character stacking were minor changes to the game.
And you still do not have to buy a hero. We do not know the unlock time but we are 100% sure that said new hero is in the FREE Battle Pass which means you can easily not buy the hero and just unlock it. Granted we do not yet know the unlock time, which is a VERY important detail, but you can unlock her.
Too bad? Since when did you become the king of Blizzard and all things gaming? Lol… All the things you listed are not changing the core mechanics. Not sure what planet you’re living on, but in my world, when you buy something, you get to keep it. Even when WoW changed, you could continue playing the game and get locked from other content until you bought the expansion. Every other game, that didn’t start as a free to play game with this model in mind, has always allowed people to continue playing the game they’ve played without forcing the change. Unless Blizz is offering retroactive refunds, they’re taking away, and not adding, for anyone that wants to continue playing Overwatch. Bootlickers gonna bootlick, I guess.
I can’t wait to know if it’s really going to be the DLC they’ve promised or a F2P mode filled with microtransactions to boost progress (like on Diablo Immortal).
The fact that they’re so silent about it might indicate that it’s different from what Jeff Kaplan had in mind before leaving the company.
Overwatch Classic is the one thing I’m waiting for. Let’s hope it won’t take as long as it took them to release WoW Classic.
I wish they would have left it alone 4 years ago. The game was perfect after the additions of Ana, Sombra, Orisa and Doomfist. No Moira, no Baguette, no GOATS, no role queue, no hero reworks.
Just give me Overwatch Classic pre-Brig. Overwatch 1 in its current state is an abomination.
