Title says it all, she’s a character with a invincibility and cleanse on a 14 second cooldown, a long range escape, wall climb for mobility, and one of the most busted ults in the game. Combine that with her age, and even personality not matching what they’ve shown shows they don’t care about the lore, and whip that together with a hit box which I swear is still jank. And you get a showing of the devs messed up headspace when developing
Edit: With most of this I’m not talking about current kiriko. I mean her conceptually. That the devs though a character with her kit would go down ok. And just their character design philosophy in general. Ramattra is the only new hero who wasn’t either completely busted, or complete garbage on launch. Which shows that their hero design philosophy has only hit that proper balance. Once, and even then Ramattra was slightly underwhelming. Even if it might have been due to high expectations with kiriko and Sojourn
Kiriko was my most anticipated new hero ever. I was appalled by her release. Every single aspect of her implementation - from her kit, to her visual design, to her lack of a Japanese accent, to her impact on the lore - was a catastrophic failure. Thank god I had some Febreze on hand to calm my nerves.
Together with inconsistent damage that only is worth it if you hit headshots with slow projectiles and a heal with travel time and downtime windows. Also the invincibility is not even a second long, so outside of Gm1 or top500 its useless in most situations that are not telegraphed.
Lore: family and people who are under her protection
Game: a bunch of random people who were thrown into a team with her and 2 old friends who are the reason why her hometown is under gang control
I give you that, but Soj, Ana and also Illari are also offenders of “WTH is this hitbox!”
It just shows that you dont think too much about it. The devs did. Her stats are also pretty bad so before you say anything: she is more UP than OP.
So its on par in terms of “cringe” as Dva and Reaper, just that they had time to grow on people. Especially Dva is pretty much at the same level or even worse than Kirki, but people got used to it, even tho she is much worse in OW2 than she was in OW1.
And I believe them. Kiriko is probably not a real menace until diamond-ish imo. Then she becomes a pain in the as$ because they can click heads and save Suzu for when it really matters.
I’ll take a gold Mercy over a gold Kiriko anytime for the sake of consistency.
After months and several Kiriko nerfs, people still believe Kiriko is OP?
The power of her suzu has drastically been brought down and that was her MAIN power. Any changes to Suzus can move her around S or F tier.
Her damage is horribly inconsistent, nonexistent in lower tiers and unpredictable in higher tiers. People compare her to Hanzo which makes no sense considering you have to put in double/triple the headhshots for the same achieved results. They aren’t good yet people say they are sleeper OP as if the blatant numbers didn’t show they are horrible.
This point might be controversial but I genuinely think the healing is also inconsistent, sometimes being bad. Sure, it’s homing healing, but there is a delay reaching the target and being like a heal DOT. It takes a second and sometimes doesn’t save someone because someone gets damaged faster than the heals can arrive.
I don’t know about you, but I much rather play or have a support that is more versatile and will be doing what they are good at with reliable damage/heals.
I feel like pick two parts of a hero’s kit and declare them the ruination of the game has become a meme at this point.
Mercy has rez and flight! Ruins the game.
Genji has deflect and dash! Ruins the game.
Symmetra has turrets with slow and damage! Ruins the game.
Roadhog has ineffectuality and despair! Ruins the game
Yeah she, the a support hero that is struggling to win games despite being perpetually ‘OP,’ is the problem and not:
-Ana
-Bap
-Illari
-Orisa
-Zarya
-Rein
-The tank passive denying fair counterplay for utility rather than sustain supports, forcing the meta to move in a direction most of us hate
-Literally any DPS that has been powercrept in the last few years, especially the most recent year.
I do agree that the lore side of things definitely show off the bad sides of the game, but I’d argue that Sojourn is much worse on that front given her cinematic showed zero personality (actually made me hate her more tbh) whereas we got a look at art and lore intention for Kiriko in her own cinematic, even if in-game it’s not represented anywhere nearly as well and is in fact very cringe.
thats more so because people dont use her properly then anything else, a hero can be both broken at a high level and useless at a low level.
you also have to take winrate statistic’s with a grain of salt, high elo players in general take more risks to try and push upwards. for instance if i were playing kiriko i might go for a flank but maybe i miss all my shots and so i kill no one and i teleport away. but in the time that happens, my team only had a lucio healing the tank so he got blown up by a bastion and we lost that team fight and maybe even the match.
but if i were to of played more safe and spammed kunai down angles i could deal dmg + keep the tank up
but the 2nd option isnt as fun as the first.
ive done that same thing on dps before where ill duel someone i know i have a very low chance of beating just to limit test.
