I've wanted the option to say sorry for so long

This game’s balance on a fundamental level was hampered by the lack of a communication wheel on console.

I very much disagree, having extra options will make a huge difference, especially to consoles and areas with many different languages.

So people playing the game wrong are reasons it shouldn’t be improved? Then anyone below gm who complains should be ignored. It will 100% help teams who communicate.

Of course it won’t magically fix it, however it will improve communication and enable more information to be shared with your team. It is a very good change for the game

Urgh. It’s like, I’m glad for the people who will be using this to have it. I’m sure I will use the options. But for me, this is a disappointing update.

If they totally wanted to mollify me by shifting some of Brigitte’s power budget out of Repair Pack and into, say, barrier HP, though, and maybe Inspire healing to even her out, I would sing their praises from the rooftops, though. :stuck_out_tongue:

While there are definitely some balance updates I would have liked to see as well, for me this game not having this feature has been an embarrassment that has been uncorrected for far too long. No competitive console game that bars M+KB should ever launch without a communication wheel.

This was a critical update that effects the way the game is fundamentally played and I’m glad it’s finally here.

The teams who communicate do so through chat or, on console, voice chat. This isn’t going to change anything for them. And for the teams who don’t communicate, which is the vast majority of low-level play, who ignore “Group up” and similar messages, they’re not going to magically pay any more attention to “Fall back” or “Sorry” or whatever.

This won’t impact anyone who wasn’t already communicating, and it’s not going to suddenly make those teams any better.

Being able to customise it will be amazing! Can finally get rid of “I need healing!” on Mercy since it is nearly completely useless, idk if anyone else actually uses it frequently. Now I can apologise for my res being on cooldown, when an ally dies while being healed or use it when killing an enemy… fun!

Fair enough. I see your points and the reasoning behind them.

Admittedly, I don’t pay much attention to console-specific worries because it’s just such an awful way to play the game, it drives me crazy. I’m glad this’ll help you folks.

I get that, but it’s probably best to look at it like … a high school getting a new music program. You may not be interested in music, but lots of your friends are. It doesn’t hurt you in any way - it’s just an added bonus. You may not have gotten the theater program you wanted, but still … the school as a whole will benefit from it, and you may still get a program you want next year.

I actually like this feature. It’s not as useful to me since I play on PC, but it’s pretty neat. I use the “Thanks” key a lot, so this’ll just go along side it. Pretty nifty for when I’m not in the mood to voice chat, I guess.

:open_mouth: I didn’t know that. I’m legally blind … together we make half a Hellen Keller. :joy:

As a console player, the wheel is used very often, and vc rarely. Even in comp, in my experience, maybe 1 in 5 games has people using the vc. The communication wheel is super important to us and an update to it is very much needed.

The limited menu may have prevented them from using it before though. Is my rein spamming group up to push or regroup? Maybe they want to combo ult? That is just one example, but we need more options so it can be easily understood, which was the point of the wheel in the first place.

People can still communicate with them, even if they don’t use the wheel

It will make it easier for them to communicate and might help improve their play since it will be easier to get their info to each other

No, for once these qol updates actually benefit us. Hooray

There have been several threads asking to have retreat or fall back added to the wheel

the new voice line combos this is going to add will bring an immense amount of bm - I am so excited. Cannot wait to combo four voice lines while standing over someone I slept.

Yeah. I think after we get past the stage where people just uselessly spam the shiny new toy, it’s gonna improve non-mic’ed communication dramatically.

Like take a look at this old thread I posted. And the opening of the video. Just the first little bit. This team was actually mostly trying to follow my command wheel suggestions. This is what successful console communication looks like.

A couple more lines would be nice.

I'll make a thread later on VGS

Actually it’s impossible to use a text chat in console OW. You have to go through the console messaging system which takes waaayyyy more time.

The voice lines update is great but the priority queue … OOF I think it takes the cake.
This will help with those players that mute the entire team I guess.

In a team game where quick communication can be a deciding factor on which team wins a fight improvements in the built in communication features is a good use of resources.
